A bloke from Sheffield, with a sore backside asks chemist "Nah then lad, does tha sell arse cream?"

Chemist replies "Aye, Magnum or Cornetto?"

Some disappointing comments in here guys and girls. I'm not sure why you are getting so wound up. Dark Owl is a f*cking idiot and is mocked regularly on that forum.

We were poor yesterday but we had a number of young lads in the team and some big players missing completely. It was a typical pre-season game and it was just like watching them training. Pre-season games mean very little I'm not concerned about the result. We won our last game 9-0 but I know it doesn't matter one jot. It's how well you start the season and how fit your squad is.

We know how difficult it is in this league. It took us 2 seasons to get promoted last time. We are not disrespecting the league or the opposition we will face. We have every right to be confident about our team and promotion chances. We have cleared out the rubbish in our squad and signed almost an entire teams worth of new players. Nearly all of whom would get into most if not all sides in the division. Our starting XI is far different from the team that got us relegated. Our form under Irvine last season too would have been good enough over the entire season to finish comfortably mid-table and even fairly close to the playoffs. It was Brian Laws that relegated us with a horrendous start to the season. The squad is in place, it is improved since we were relegated, and we have the right man in charge. I am confident and I don't see why our fans shouldn't be.

Otsemebor?!

RB was our only real weakness and we binned him and signed two much better (albeit on only has one arm!).

Don't know enough about your other players to comment but think Lallana will be looking forward to playing you if he is your RB!

going to the away game with my kid sis as she's at uni up there - hopefully we'll batter them!

And no worries tartanowl, every forum has its fair share of idiots. Although I must say Lambert and Lallana are very good and I assure you Schneiderlin is actually playing well below himself at League 1 level and will certainly move unless we get promotion this season, we may well face a fair old challenge from clubs such as yourself.

The one thing I would say though is just don't panic if you have a crummy start to the season as we/Norwich did, and certainly don't flip out at your manager.

I must admit I wasn't impressed with him yesterday and if you look at our forum he is the one signing people were nervous about. It is our obvious and glaring weakness in the team. Buxton, Hinds and Otsemobor are all fairly average footballers.

Dark Owl is definitely in with the idiots. I know you have a good team and I am wary of certain players. You are stronger in some areas and we are stronger in others. I'm looking forward to the coming season it should be very entertaining.

Reading through the owls forum really highlights a lack of knowledge many fans have, both us and them. IMO they have very much underestimated the team we have here at St Mary's, both due it's talent and it's form going into this season 'hopefully'.

The fact that they are saying that they would not take a single player from our starting 11 is laughable to say the least. If i was to pick a best 11 it would look like this.

Grant

Richardson Beevers Fonte Dickson

Tudgay Miller Shneiderlin Lallana

Lambert Morrison

All in all though we are looking at a team that has just been relegated, the morale will not be there and in all honesty i cannot see a huge difference between the team that got relagated and the team here now, but we shall see.

I would say that Wednesday are the strongest team in the league. Tudgay, Morrison, Mellor in attack, plus some shrewd signings from Irvine. I would say Peterborough will also be up there. I don't think it will be a walk in the park most Saints fans think. Having said that I still think we will be promoted automatically, with a couple more signings.

I think the most interesting thing was when one of their fans claimed they had the best squad since relegation from the premiership in 2000. How does that work then? A team gets their best players not in the championship but in league one? Sounds unlikely. Also they may have names and a very strong squad but all of those players will want to play every week and when they realise they cannot there will be unrest. In the end their huge squad will cost them. Quantity over quality I would suggest is Alan Irvine's motto for transfer activity.

Yeah, it was a ridiculous comment to make. Also, the only reason they had a fighting chance of staying up on the last day of the season was because of Palace's 10 point deduction. If it wasn't for that they would've been relegated long before! They're also overlooking the fact that our manager not only has experience of this league, but he has also been promoted from it.

Take them all with a pinch of salt, you get idiots on all forums and we have our fair share, from one extreme with some claiming saints are better than and would beat England and Rickie Lambert should have been in the England squad to the other that because we haven't made 15 new signing yet we will struggle and not expect promotion.

On paper both sides look strong, but you do seem to have a few 30+'s so will be interesting to see how they bear up over the course of the season, although the same can be said for us with Connolly and Jaidi, both top players at this level but wont player every game. Personally I think the top 3 will be Saints, Wednesday and Huddersfield, its just the order i am not sure of.

I dont know what you are all getting worked up about i am sure Huddersfield, Peterborough, Swindon, MK Dons are all saying similar things, all we can worry about is ourselves, we have the money, the infrastructure, the support, the team & the management for promotion, if we dont do it, its our own fault.

Bit of a rumour going round that HMRC have issued Wednesday with a winding up order over an unpaid tax bill.

Bit stupid considering they've added the likes of Morrison to the wage bill...

No rumour its fact. £500k in upaid tax bill apparently. Only weeks after the chairman said admin was never going to be an option and that we had agreed a new deal with the Co-op Bank.

already created a rivalry among fans, there acting like we did last season just come down and ****y about how good there chances are and comparing are squad to the best team in the league leeds which is now us.

Last season after signing fonte we had the best 11 in this league and we do this season i don't care if sheff wes finish above us as long as we go up.

We have the best manager in this league and best CB and CF plus the best midfield by far, lallana Spiderman Hammond puncheon all young and quality ok hammonds 25/26 but there all good enough to play in the championship for a mid table team.

One huge advantage we have over Wednesday is we spent last season mostly winning, they spent last season mostly loosing. And as any good manager knows winning, and loosing for that matter, is a habit. We'll finnish above Wednesday.

(if only we were playing in our traditional red and white stripes we would be invincible)

Actually last summer most Saints fans realised we had a massive rebuilding job and coupled with the 10 point deduction, would be satisfied if we avoided dropping to League 2 and built a good squad for this year.

Lol-

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club wishes to inform its supporters that Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has presented a winding up order in respect of the Club.

In response to this development, the Club has issued the following comments:

"Sheffield Wednesday would like to inform supporters that their Club is not about to be wound up, nor is it about to enter into administration.

"We have been involved in dialogue with HMRC for a number of weeks. As such we have been somewhat surprised and disappointed by their decision to seek a winding up order at this time.

"We understand that HMRC is taking a tougher line in general with football clubs, but feel their actions are disproportionate and will raise unnecessary speculation as to the financial position of the club.

"We can inform supporters that the Club, working in partnership with the Co-operative Bank and their advisors, will seek to settle this matter as soon as is practical.

"Furthermore, during a period of change this summer the bank has been an integral partner for Sheffield Wednesday. We will continue to work together to create the best environment possible for the club to move forward, including on-going dialogue with potential investors that will seek to secure the long term financial health of the club".

The Co-operative Bank has also issued the following response to the actions of HMRC:

"It is disappointing to note that HMRC have presented a winding up order in respect of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

"The Co-operative Bank has been working extremely hard for some time with representatives of the football club and investors to explore ways to ensure its future stability.

"At present we are continuing to enter into dialogue with our advisers, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and potential investors to explore solutions which will allow the club to operate on a sound and secure financial footing for the future."

"The action by HMRC relates to an outstanding PAYE balance of £550,000.

"The Club has been informed that the petition will be heard in the High Court on August 11.

One again a club whinging because they are being hard done by. IF they have paid the salaries to players and deducted the tax and IF they have collected VAT from customers, it is not their money to do what they like with! IT SHOULD BE PAID TO HMRC. Why do they and the bank find that so difficult to understand.

We didn't buy any players. They were signed on bosman frees.

You are still using money to pay their wages and possibly signing on fees. You are no where near as complicit as those complete cheats down the road but it is the same principle.

Add in Huddersfield, Peterborough & Swindon & you have 2 from 5 IMHO. Problem is Sheff Wed normally beat us & are a bogey side.............

Huddersfield should do well but for some reaason i have a feeling they will stutter a little bit, Peterborough will do well unless they lose Boyd and/or Mclean. Swindon really need to replace their top goalscorer from last year and hope Austin doesn't suffer from second season syndrome.

I disagree with that Paynter has had one good season in his career and that is the season when he was paired with Austin, Paynter will be found out next season, But Austin is their star striker imo. would like to see him a saints shirt

I would love to see Austin in a Saints shirt.

But then again, Beattie had about 1 good season when paired with the industrious BO and everyone creams their pants over him.
