Thedelldays Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 good stuff.......we are properly coverd across the back....just need a CM and a pacey wide player/forward queue the moans about the timing of the announcement edit - is says he is already with the squad on tour...
Badger Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Great. The club do like these 2325hrs announcements nowadays don't they ?. (not a moan, but an observation!)
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 Scored a hatrick vs Wolves last season as a makeshift centre forward in FA Cup 4th round. Now, that's what I call versatile!
doughnutman Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 (edited) Excellent, I have no concerns about the defence now whatsoever (Butterfield can play RB and CB I believe,as well as CM). Very pleased with this signing. One or 2 midfielders, a striker and a replacement for Bart and we'll be there. Edited 16 July, 2010 by doughnutman OS says he can play in the midfield
doggface Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 I have to question the timing of this announcement
SW11_Saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Remember his 7 min hat trick as a makeshift striker... Hopefully a decent defender too. Useful addition to the squad.
doggface Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 He should have gone to the world cup instead of Heskey!
Badger Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Excellent, I have no concerns about the defence now whatsoever (Butterfield can play RB and CB I believe, and possibly even as a defensive midfield). Very pleased with this signing. One or 2 midfielders, a striker and a replacement for Bart and we'll be there. Only another four needed then? Piece of p!ss. Agree though.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 Just the Nicky Butt and Michael Owen signings to tie up then....
RonManager Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2094511,00.html You starin' at my rhododendrons?
Saint_lambden Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Well if we sign Waigo then that is RM and the 4th Striker position sorted. Another CM would be nice - Stock or Danns ideally. Will get an update from the ITK player on Sunday/Monday when they return home.
Crab Lungs Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Fookin' hell, that is a superb signing. Very accomplished Champ player that didn't and wouldn't look out of place in the Prem. Nice one, Saints!
Pat from Poole Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Good player, was guilty of some heinous defending in that crucial game against Sheff Wed on the last day of last season when he allowed Clarke to run inside him and score. Pleased with the signing though. Just a central midfielder and a winger needed then.

Will get an update from the ITK player on Sunday/Monday when they return home. I think a signing in the RL mould is more likely than Waigo (based on Pardew saying he wanted to sign a player like that) Perhaps a lower league player, anyone know if any of our trialists are similar to RL in terms of attributes?
SW11_Saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Presumably Pards is going to make him 'Butterfield 8'?
Colinjb Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 What. The. F*ck. 11.45pm on Friday is the new 11am on Monday. Sweet signing, but my life. This anti echo thing.... it's screwing up my mojo.
SparkySaint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Very good signing. By the time we get to the championship, we're going to be awesome
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Excellent signing. Versatility will be a big bonus. Does this mean Richardson is knackered for the start of the new season then? And why are we persisting with the releasing of news after the cut off time for stories to appear in the printed Echo...?

Cortese's only doing what any self-respecting newspaper editor would do ie. out-scooping his rivals to the advantage of his own 'electronic' newspaper. Consider your mojo unscrewed and neatly ironed.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 It also shows that some rumours on 606 come true! Didn't someone post that someone on the Palace 606 forum said he was on a flight for Zurich? How prophetic!
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Presumably Pards is going to make him 'Butterfield 8'? I presume your coat is on and you are exiting the door just about now...
SparkySaint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 No not at all. I would imagine he'd get a player with at least L1 experience
Colinjb Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Cortese's only doing what any self-respecting newspaper editor would do ie. out-scooping his rivals to the advantage of his own 'electronic' newspaper. Consider your mojo unscrewed and neatly ironed. Why thank you. I feel most flattened and re-oriented. Almost deja vu for that Chiropractor i've been seeing this week.
MarkSFC Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 great signing....and loving the 1125pm announcements!
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 Superb. As he looks as comfortable up front as he (probably) does in defence, perhaps Pardew might be thinking that he can use him as that missing piece of the jigsaw in our squad - i.e. A box to box midfielder? He seems to have enough pace and versatility for such a role based on that footage.
Turkish Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 lol at the timing of the accouncements, funny as, great signing though, experienced, versatile and can play at a higher level. Just a RM, CM, ST to go ;-)
Matthew Le God Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 This makes good reading... http://www.cpfc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=204153 Seems they like him.
SW11_Saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 (edited) I presume your coat is on and you are exiting the door just about now... Indeed. Bet he does get #8 though... Edited 16 July, 2010 by SW11_Saint
Scudamore Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 This makes good reading... http://www.cpfc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=204153 Seems they like him. As does this... http://fypfanzine.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/fyp-opinion-danny-butterfield-palace-legend/

trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 As does this... http://fypfanzine.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/fyp-opinion-danny-butterfield-palace-legend/ "Even when he found himself ousted from the squad, the club’s joker played a crucial role in the demise of another club. Butterfield found himself loaned out to Charlton Athletic for two months, providing some moments of comedy defending to get our friends from the Valley relegated. Agent Butterfield he was - and he returned to the club as a hero." Made me chuckle.
Turkish Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 this signing seems to fit the two good players for every position model, great to see such strength in depth and having 24 good players in a squad not 35 average ones like we had in our PL relegation season, a smaller quality squad is what wins things.

Which would suggest that Cortese has gazumped that original "offer from another club" as I can't see us taking 17 days to complete the signing. Which means we outbid the club (millwall? QPR?) that outbid Palace? Nice. (edit: "outbid" as in 'were prepared to offer him better personal deal' as he was available on a free xfer)
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Great player, will be a quality signing i feel but surely he wants to play more than a bit part which mkes the fight for RB even more exciting !! To those who have seen him play, is he any good as a CM ? Or a DM ?? This could be a crucial piece in a crucial position if he is. Great signing cheers AP/NC and team.
Saint_clark Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Great signing. I honestly thought we'd regret letting James go as he was so versatile, but we have now signed someone who is even more versatile and 5 times better.
MarkSFC Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 interesting that its only one year. Suppose hes getting a good wedge and will only stay as long as we go up!
Saint_clark Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 interesting that its only one year. Suppose hes getting a good wedge and will only stay as long as we go up! I assumed it was because if we go up we could probably attract better, especially considering he'll be 31.
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 I assumed it was because if we go up we could probably attract better, especially considering he'll be 31. No, players have more power than that, if he wanted more than a 1 year deal i would expect he would get it. I have not read anything yet however i would imagine that there would be some sort of extension included into the deal on both parts, i would assume he wants to move up to CCC with us, and if we miss out he can assess his options.
MarkSFC Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 I assumed it was because if we go up we could probably attract better, especially considering he'll be 31. yeah from our point of view that would make sense but at his age surely he would want longer?
buctootim Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 CP fan "Butts and Fonté? Nice defence they'll have this year".
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 17 July, 2010 Posted 17 July, 2010 Onwards and upwards. Good signing. Steady as she goes, don't want to worry about gelling.
