What is wrong with the development squad having another game? Why have you put a negative slant on this story?
SuperMikey Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 You complain of people putting a positive or neutral view of Cortese, yet everything you post is negative no matter what. What is wrong with the development squad having another game? +1 That is the roughly the playing level of the Saints XI squad, will you now deride league matches against Dag & Red, Notts County etc because we're not out playing Real f*cking Madrid? I've seen some WUMs in my time, but you really take the proverbial biscuit DBP.
La BoIS Saint Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Good one for me, three stops on the train and covered by travelcard. Maybe drink in Carshalton.
Kingsland Nick Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Sutton think its our 1st team We are delighted to announce an addition to our pre-season friendly schedule after Alan Pardew agreed to bring the full Southampton first team to Gander Green Lane on Saturday week, 24 July, kick off 3pm. Southampton won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last season at Wembley and are widely regarded among the favourites for promotion from League One in the coming season. The game on Saturday week will be played for the President's Trophy, inaugurated against Brentford last season in memory of the former club president Andrew Letts who passed away in 2008 after over 70 years' association with Sutton United. Normal admission prices will apply. http://www.suttonunited.net/news.php
SamKimish Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Sutton think its our 1st team So did one of Havant or Winchester though and we still took a youthful looking side to both of those games (minus Anthony Pulis ). I remember having two Saints squads playing games on the same day in previous years so I don't think that's the last friendly to be announced. I'm a tiny bit disappointed not to have scheduled a match against Premier League opposition for the Ted Bates Trophy but I still think matches against teams of our level (Reading, Sochaux, Thun etc.) are vital to our development.
SuperMikey Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Farnborough and Basingstoke seem to think we're taking full strength teams to them as well, although I imagine there'll be a few fringe players in the Farnborough squad as the training camp in Switzerland will have finished by then.
Ewell Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Good one for me, three stops on the train and covered by travelcard. Maybe drink in Carshalton. Likewise, but alas I am away!
John B Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Good one for me, three stops on the train and covered by travelcard. Maybe drink in Carshalton. I used to drink in the Greyhound but that was years ago
ribbo Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 it's not in clubs best interests to advertise that it's not a full strength team as it could affect turnout.
Ewell Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 I used to drink in the Greyhound but that was years ago Nah has to be the Windsow Castle. Ahhh oh when the saints has just come on in the hotel bar Jazz Stylee. Oh the temptation to sing!

rick1976.4.38 Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 just down the road for me ,so will go and watch saints b4 work.griffo you going
Draino76 Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Sutton were moaning on the news a couple of days ago that Fulham have pulled out of a friendly with them, leaving them out of pocket by £25,000. Boo hoo. Might pop over for this.
Mao Cap Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Interesting place for ground nerds, one of those old school "athletic grounds" with an oval shape. View's not that great but a good clubhouse (which serves proper beer, as I recall).
Griffo Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 just down the road for me ,so will go and watch saints b4 work.griffo you going Yes I will be mate. I hope there are some first team players on show. I'll talk to Stevo about it during the week.
surrey1saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 I used to go and watch Sutton as a kid, many moons ago....I will have to take a trip back to memory lane for this one I think.
holepuncture Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 At last... the prestige game we were all looking for during the empty weekend slot on Saturday 24th July. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2093322,00.html why cant you be the old stu, the happy go lucky pub organising chap who didnt really care about the footy, more just the day out on the beers etc? People respected you, although they wouldnt admit it, you were clearly respected and an entertaining poster. You are the only thing these days (on this site) which can kill the big ol smile i have when i think about saints and everything thats going on since the high rollers strolled in to st.marys Organising the green man for wembley was awesome, myself and 10 family had an excellent time, smashed. Loved it. Why has your passion become so distasteful? Why dont you take a page out of rallyboys book, on the takeoversaga thread, and focus all your energy on bringing the skates to there knees? x
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 holepuncture I shall now be giving the whole Cortese thing a rest, I think I have said more than enough to be able to say " I told you so " as more and more things come out which prove to be sticking 2 fingers up at the supporters. Why do I feel so passionately against Cortese... because the club are treating fans with complete contempt and you have to remember, I spent hours and hours of my own time proving that there are solutions available to the club to allow them to have an installment plan at no cost... yet the club fobbed me off with lies. When the club is going to blatantly lie then there is a problem, one which will only get bigger. ( no doubt someone will come on here and say they are not lies and how do I know... I know because I done ALL the research and explored EVERY avenue ) Many things I can gloss over, but a pet hate is being blatantly lied to and treated like a mug, which is exactly what Cortese has done. I have also heard many many more stories, through staff at the club/connected people/ex-players, reading these forums and through PM's sent to me from various posters bringing my attention to more people Cortese has upset along the way. There is no way I can post everything I have heard, because he WOULD take legal action against me, as he has threatened to do with other fans who dare question his tenureship... and before anyone says " well if they are true, post them " - I am not going to risk going head to head in court with a multi-million pound company. I am genuinely worried about the direction the club is heading... most people want to see Saints winning and competing/winning leagues but it seems the club don't want to welcome the fans along for the ride. Like I said... sit back and wait for more and more drips of bad-management / pr / disrespect for fans / ex-players etc etc over the coming season, by the end of the season, although nobody will admit it, I am absolutely certain that a number of fans will be saying " yeah, DBP was right all along " . If people are prepared to have your trousers pulled down and f*cked by the club enroute to success then that's up to them, it would be nice if people actually empathised with other fans who are not prepared to be ripped off by the club. On a last note, some predictions over the coming month. 1) There will be no explanation for the removal of the Ted Bates Trophy Game. 2) There will be no open fans forum. 3) There will be rises across the board in the concourses. 4) There will be more negative threads on Cortese's bad man-management skills.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 it's not in clubs best interests to advertise that it's not a full strength team as it could affect turnout. It would also be in their interests not to mis-represent an event in their advertising as that would be breaching several consumer and advertising laws
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 It would also be in their interests not to mis-represent an event in their advertising as that would be breaching several consumer and advertising laws I imagine it will be a near first team though. Can't see why not.
Scummer Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 I imagine it will be a near first team though. Can't see why not. They are calling it a Saints XI though, doesn't indicate that it will be the first team.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 I imagine it will be a near first team though. Can't see why not. I tend to agree. Was just reacting to some posts above alluding that we wouldn't be taking a 1st XI.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Their supporters are very thankful and seem to be assuming we'll send a strong team:- http://suttonunited.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2876 As Stu says, given there's no other friendly organised for that weekend (yet) I would expect Pardew to take the first team too. Given how Sutton were let down by Fulham I can't see them not nailing down some sort of assurance from Saints that they would be sending a strong line-up.
Scummer Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Interestingly, the OS doesn't have the Winchester, H&W or Basingstoke games in their fixture list. They do have Farnborough, Sutton, Barnet and Eastleigh on there. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/FixturesResults/0,,10280,00.html
trousers Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=142622059087050 Alan Pardew brings his Southampton FIRST team to Gander Green Lane to compete for the President's Trophy. Adults £10 Senior citizens £5 Juniors £3
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 16 July, 2010 Author Posted 16 July, 2010 They are calling it a Saints XI though, doesn't indicate that it will be the first team. It indicates they are covering their arses, just incase.
kenley saint Posted 16 July, 2010 Posted 16 July, 2010 Sutton have been assured by Alan Pardue that they will bring the full squad.Apparently he turned out for them in a charity match last season and knows the Club quite well. Well this is what I was told when I agreed to sponser the match on behalf of my company
