If you put a fresh pumpkin seed into a fresh apple, the apple will explode causing major splatteration.

Can you think of any other exploding objects?

scrape the brown (or red) stuff from a match into a little pile and wrap it in silver foil. Apply heat and it will produce a mini fireworks display.

This one is safe if not a little messy.

Get an old film canister and put a spoonfull of bicarb in it. Add a splosh of vinegar and quickly replace the lid, place on ground and walk away briskly. POP! bicarb/vinegar mix eruption.

Preparation of TNT

1. Take two beakers. In the first prepare a solution of 76 percent sulfuric acid, 23 percent nitric acid and 1 percent water. In the other beaker, prepare another solution of 57 percent nitric acid and 43 percent sulfuric acid (percentages are on a weight ratio rather than volume).

2. Ten grams of the first solutions are poured into an empty beaker and placed in an ice bath.

3. Add ten grams of toluene, and stir for several minutes.

4. remove this beaker from the ice bath and gently heat until it reaches 50 degrees C. The solution is stirred constantly while being heated.

5. Fifty additional grams of the acid, from the first beaker, are added and the temperature is held for the next ten minutes, and an oily liquid will begin to form on the top of the acid.

6. After 10 or 12 minutes, the maker will have to take a nice long shower.

7. Pack into a container and detonate by passing current through, or use an eleictral detonator.

My bicarb/vinegar one is both safe and educational, make learning fun I say.

My TNT one was educational too. Guess that might have been the problem.

So's mine. We were shown it in a chemistry lesson. As I recall the glass bowl holding the water shattered. We were only allowed to put magnesium in the water, similar effect but much less powerful. Still, great fun for budding pyromaniacs.

Sodium Chlorate (weedkiller) and sugar.

This is not to be recommended. It can be rather unstable. When I was a nipper, a mate lost the end of 2 fingers when it went off unexpectedly.

Its even better if you use potassium and heat the water!

Hammy, are you by any chance some sort of vinegar salesman ?

Nope S-S, I work for the government.

I know some random **** about vinegar because mrs hamster once bought me a book about it and I read it out of courtesy.

Did you know that the original Worcester Sause was made by a local family butchers in the midlands who had a debt with his vinegar supplier that was overdue? The vinegar supplier had sampled his 'sauce' and liked it. He accepted sole rights to the recipe in part payment. The rest as they say, is history.

My absolute favourite (and most useful) vinegar fact is that is a cure for both constipation AND dhiarrhoea (sp). Seriously, try it, it really is a miracle cure and really speedy too.
