aintforever Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Tell that to Sasha. You have just proved my point. Mandric was the person who sold pompey to a criminal - yet Sasha is the one who's getting all the bad PR. All Milan did is sell the club in good faith. Marcus could do exactly the same.
Thedelldays Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Sasha is a corrupt businessman. The Liebherr family is much more respected than the Gaydamak family. If SFC went bust it would generate bad press for them no doubt about it. It would not be welcomed I am sure. You are dull now TDD. Go away. dull??? thanks, just asking for you to clarify some points you made...sorry about that
Dark Munster Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Yes. Spot on. I can appreciate it that he has done many a good things for the club with the setup of the management structure etc... although with his funding I would expect that from most half-decent football chairman. His attitude towards fans, staff, ex-players and press/media is very very worrying though, and the main reason I would rather he walked away. And what if (most likely) ML walked away too?
Dark Munster Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 I'm pleased he has money & ambition which can only be good for the club. I'm not happy hearing about all the disgruntled staff & legal cases emanating from his ruthless & allegedly immoral attitude towards people & fans. Petty squabbles & such with the media are pathetic too. Rid of one tosser it seems, in with the next. Are these the same disgruntled staff who would, in most likelihood, not have a job if ML (through NC) hadn't taken over?
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 And what if (most likely) ML walked away too? Can someone PLEASE provide me a link to where Liebherr has said, or even hinted he would walk away if Cortese left? I am fully aware and understand that he might not have taken on this investment without Cortese... but at NO point has Liebherr stated he would leave if Cortese left, I really cannot see him leaving. He has his foot in the door now and has spent his money and wants the return on his investment. Even if he does sell up... it's not the end of the world... we are running as a self-sufficient business so the fact Liebherr is a billionaire is completely irrelevent.
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Are these the same disgruntled staff who would, in most likelihood, not have a job if ML (through NC) hadn't taken over? Oh that's it... now the staff should be eternally grateful to Cortese for saving their jobs. You couldn't make this sh!t up.

Dave Benson Phillips Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 well..considering Cortese stated that markus is still funding us.. then again, he is probably talking **** though...right..? I asked for someone to provide a link to a quote from Liebherr stating he will walk away if Cortese ever steps down as Chairman. Also, Cortese has said publicly we are running as a self-sufficient business... it can't be both, can it? Don't worry, the accounts will be out in the next couple of months, I will prove my point and you wrong again and you will ignore it and fail to put your hands up, like you have done several times before, like the girl that you are.

So let's just wait till the accounts come out, then I can post them up, pwn you and you can ignore it. Still waiting for the link regarding Liebherr walking if Cortese leaves.... What? You mean it was never said?? Oh

Fitzhugh Fella Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 I think one day ML will sell. That could potentially be quite dangerous inasmuch the next owner may not be as benevolent as Marcus. Really, if we had any sense we should be organising ourselves right now to ensure that come the moment the fans are in a position to buy the club (a la Barcelona style). I am sure Marcus would rather sell to the fans than someone unscrupulous. The Liebherr/Cortese dream will not last forever and we should not fool ourselves it will. We never want to be in the same position we found ourselves last April - we got away with it then, we may not be so lucky next time!
Junction 9 Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 How Pardew Situation was dealt with. Lack of communication when dealing with complaints. Removing Ted Bates Trophy weeks after his wife passed away. Almost doubling car parking charges. Removal of Suite Packages named after legends. Booking Fee Matchday Surcharge Lack of notification over pre-season tour. Making digs at Le Tiss and other legends. Petty squabbles and childish bitterness with the Echo Delaying of the wonderful training group upgrades through his arrogance. Refusal to communicate with Southampton fans at any level Complete disregard for the fans charter with no explanation and ( might as well put these in now to save me coming back and editing my post ) Price rises in the concourses. No fans forum. I find your posts quite remarkable. For someone who regularly is so p*ssed he doesn't remember the game, sometimes doen't even bother with the second half you have a lot to say don't you? Why are you even bothered how the club is run? It's just a day with the lads as you've said time and time again. The best thing Cortese is doing is p*ssing you off with every move he makes, good luck to him.

djharvey Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Lets wait for the accounts to come out before saying the club has spent millions, shall we? You mean actually wait until the club gives out official information before jumping to conclusions? That's a novel idea!
Hopkins Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Just out of interest will the accounts definitely be coming out? Not being a PLC any more does that not mean that the business doesn't have to publish accounts?
SuperMikey Posted 14 July, 2010 Author Posted 14 July, 2010 Could we get an actual poll on this thread please mods, it's just degenerated into the same old Cortese thread and I only set it up so we could get a vote going!

manji Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Interesting the amount of "ITK" and connected posters who suggest that Cortese has quite a few character flaws which should be amended in order for SFC and the supporters to move forward successfully together. Steve, Ron and Duncan to name but three. ITK my ass ! They all have an agenda more like ! There is a very small group of fans who had a foolishly high expectation of "Mike" Wilde and then when that fell flat hoped for a fan-pandering Pinnacle takeover with the likes of Lawrie Mac and MLT involved. This would lead in their deluded eyes to jobs with the club (historian anyone ? ) or the ultimate **** fantasy becoming a "fan on the board". Again this has been dashed by a successful board taking the club in the right direction. Unfortunately for this deluded but vocal minority the set up has remained popular so they have set about undermining the club with tittle tattle that the less perceptive members of the fan-base have fallen for. Add to that some pompous bed-wetting whinging about the installment plan fanned by a very desperate local rag. Forchrissakes this is the first settled close season for years and most of us look forward to the coming season with great excitement so can the whingers shut the **** up.

waggy Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 online/phone ticket tax, strange arrangements for season ticket sales, flapping around with Pardew. irrellevant as that was a month ago or more
brmbrm Posted 14 July, 2010 Posted 14 July, 2010 Above is a prime example of the 'Blind Love' that I speak of so much. "Blind love"? Did you actually read the post? He wa actually comparting the suituationnow with the situation a year ago? Blind???? Blind FFS????????????? This was a direct tit-for-tat comparison of every gory bloddy detail now with teh same sh!t we were faced with a year ago. And you call that blind? WUM, troll, plonker, whatever. You are the blind person here, matey

If Cortese learns some humility and gains a better understanding of english football (or appoints someone who does) then great. I don't expect this to happen though so I'm not particularly thrilled with SFC at the moment.
John Boy Saint Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 At the end of the day Southampton Football Club is not a disorganised Pub Crawl arranged at the 11th hour by a a bunch of lads who have been on the lash for most of the day already, neither is it a charity. It is a Multi Million pound business that needs to run as a business not off the back of a fag packet. Many clubs are run off the back of fag packets and beer mats and they end up paddling in the mire. NC has done a good job, what is hurting is change as the saying goes "no one likes change". In a year or 2 many folks will have forgotten all the issues that are on peoples minds at the moment. If we were looking forward to a season in the Championship this year much of what has gone on would not be of such concern........................ As Lawrie Mac once said in conversation: after signing Kevin Keegan, the following season the ticket prices were doubled and no one batted an eyelid.
so22saint Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Some of the communication aspects of Lowe, but tied to *actual* business acumen, a brilliant ability to deliver on promises and a steely determination to succeed. He is the anti-Lowe or maybe, to use a biblical analogy, Lowe is the anti-Cortese - Lowe being the thick one that got kicked out ;-)
AussieDog Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Think Cortese has got every aspect right in dealing with his approach to setting the club up for the future. Don't like his PR skills (or perceived lack of). Of course, if we don't get promoted this year then my opinion will have changed!
offix Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Feckin brilliant. And I'm getting real tired of those constantly trying to incite discontent.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Brilliant - he's kept the scummy elements away by not allowing installment plans.
Gordon Mockles Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 Manji...what a c***!! Seriously. You really mean all that?! To be fair, your consistent. Hardly legal either. That's assuming you like girls. Maybe not. You're certainly up Cortese's arse! Call me Mr Fussy but I like the way our club is run but I'd prefer a chairman that actually had respect for people (both staff & fans) & not holding everyone in contempt & over-reacting over minor news items. It's childish. A few leaked rumours & it's back to media black out almost. Not quite but communication has been poor. Not shying away from unfair dismissal cos you've got loads of money, good lawyers & don't care isn't really a good message to the community!

SaintRichmond Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 (edited) Okay, but I'm not really a fan of him. Why ? He is here as Leibherr's "Enforcer" He is running SFC ONLY as a Business He knows Nothing about Football He HAS alienated some FANS by his actions SO What happens when Markus gets "tired" of his "Toy" ? He could sell up, but not necessarily keep his "Business" as a Football Club He COULD sell the plot as Building land People should remember that Cortese is here because Marcus WANTS him here, and his allegiance is for Markus , NOT US NO Football Club should be in the control of just ONE man Edited 15 July, 2010 by SaintRichmond

I think that's the whole point, Cortese is a pretty nasty character. People on here don't seem to be bothered about the complete contempt for fans, staff and press/media that Cortese shows time and time again. Refusing someone maternity leave? Sums it all up. Have a look through the Echo, you'll find the SFC Crest has gone... why is that? Because Cortese has threatened them with legal action for using the club crest because it will apparantly damage the clubs chances of getting to the Premier League... yeah nice one Mr Cortese. Various others have also recieved threats of legal action for stupid little things, infact I await a letter saying I am being taken to court for posting this! Why has the training ground development been delayed? Because Cortese had a row with one contractor, expecting them to start the work without paying any money, because apparantly " his word is his honour " ... so quite understandably the contractor told him to f*ck right off, downed tools and walked away. Anyone that knows the in's and out's of Cortese's dispute with Francis Benali will also know what a complete **** Cortese is. For anyone that doesn't know, Cortese has rented Francis Benali's house... that's all I am prepared to say, but some of the things that have happened during his tenancy are beggars belief. Then we move on to the fans, where he is consistently treating fans with disrespect through lack of communication, disregard for the supporters charter and making every decision based on money and absolutely no thought or consideration for the fans. Many of you on here, infact most of you on her won't give a toss because you want to see Southampton win at any cost, so good luck you, nothing wrong with that view, everyone looks at their club in a different way and no way of supporting the club is wrong. There are many people that need to be treated with a bit of respect as a customer and not feel like they are being ripped off, or they will simply walk away... this will start happening this season, I am certain of that. Not every supporters wants Southampton to " win at any cost " .
saint in Den Haag Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 I am very happy with him to date. Although I agree the ticket fiasco is tough on some of our fans and for that it is a shame However as someone who tries to remain balcanced I think we have got to rememer a few things. - Firstly his previous job was a senior investment banker (or somehting similar) he has never run a company or been a CEO before and its not a simply position I imagine or at least not a position that you can learn in less than a year!!! Those on the board in my company have got 30 plus years experience in the industry, have proved themselves as general managers within numerous positions in the UK and abroad and they know the company's ethics and code of conduct. So this is a big jump for NC and I am sure he is learning every day! Also am sure investment bakning is pretty 'cut and thrust' and back stabbing is common if you want to gte ot the top - so sometimes hard to change the way you've been used to working for the last 5 yrs etc!! - It does not matter where you work - if people are unhappy for whatever reason then they will moan and when moaning they will tend to exagerate to make their moan look a little better. Even i come home form work and moan at my partner about a meeting and probably make it seem worse than it was! So the stories coming out of the club - how do we know for sure that they are true? maybe 80 / 90 % is. - if he is genuinely asking people to come back to work early or faced being sacked - then i am sure he will be breaching employees contracts, and if he is then if i was that perosn i would let it happen and then sue the company. As people are saying Marcus is from a respected name so he wont want a bad name against him and law suits! So maybe he has changed people's contracts and waived a few perks that they used to have. anyway just my opinion and trying to see it from another angle. - right back to work myself!

NickG Posted 15 July, 2010 Posted 15 July, 2010 as we went into admin with Lowe would anyone believe that a small number of posters would be slagging off his replacement over in the main petty non-football issues after he had found us a billionaire investor, hired top manager, supported him in transfer market, won a trophy etc etc - you would have thought it was a wind up......I still do!
