Saint_clark Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 Did anyone really expect us to beat a top-flight Swiss club that regularly plays in the CL? No, but it rather ****es on the idea that we aren't playing the Ted Bates Trophy because Pardew thought getting dicked by a better team was a bad idea. Matthew Le God Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 Did anyone really expect us to beat a top-flight Swiss club that regularly plays in the CL? No they don't. They played in it once, 5 years ago.
Nexstar Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 tbf this is the sort of game you need in a pre-season, not a thrashing.....but a hard workout, not just an easy 13-0 win against some 8th division Swedish team or whatever. far more beneficial in the long run to have an early workout like this IMO. Couldn't agree more, a hard workout against tougher opposition is much better than the games we've seen in recent years.
Gorgiesaint Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 Possibly FC Thun started pre season sometime ago as they must have a mid season break Yes, this is their 6th pre-season match so I would say we are probably 4 weeks behind in terms of preparation. Turkish Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 Possibly FC Thun started pre season sometime ago as they must have a mid season break They are their season starts on saturday, Losing is still unacceptable though, even though they are a top flight Swiss side who play champions league football and are 4 weeks ahead of us in preseason. Pokerchampion Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 FC Thun are a quality outfit , im not surprised by the score , were 4 days into pre season and the boys are still working off the burgers , id like to think we can get one or two back but it could be a hammering which will not be good for morale. Come on Saints dig in .

SuperMikey Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 Not really, i'm sure they'll be brought on as subs at some point. Pardew obviously just wants to run the rule over a few more players that played in the first half. In the words of Michael Winner; "Calm down dear!" Matthew Le God Posted 13 July, 2010 Share Posted 13 July, 2010 (edited) Are the Second Team we are playing better than Thun? Yes, next team they are playing are a top flight French side. Friendlies are for match fitness. Saints haven't had their best 11 on the pitch for 90 minutes each half has had a mix of younger players and regulars from the large squad they have taken with them.
