Draino76 Posted 9 July, 2010 Share Posted 9 July, 2010 With all the revelations of poor refereeing in the world cup; I propose the team captain has the ability to use a 'blue card' to challenge referee up to 3 times in a game only. The captain's blue card would force the officials to consult the video referee up to 3 times in a game to get the important decisions decisions correct. If of course the initial decision from the referee was correct, the captain would receive a yellow card. Of course this idea needs refining; such as the colour of the captain's card and how many challenges are allowed but with all the tv coverage of the top level of the game; this would be so simple to implement and would add a hit of tactics to the game also. Shall I email Sepp?
Deano6 Posted 9 July, 2010 Share Posted 9 July, 2010 Terrible idea. Captains would be getting sent off all over the place - or more likely they wouldn't risk it. Why not just allow a team 3 challenges, like in tennis. Why dress it up?
Draino76 Posted 9 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 9 July, 2010 The team speaks to the ref through the captain right? Lampard:" Gerro I'm sure the ball was over the line, use a blue card!" Gerrard: "Hell no I might get a yellow card; are you really sure?"

Perhaps the 'booking' for this should carry an extra points tally, a kind of 'Brucie Bonus'. Then there is the possibility of the referee, once challenged, pulling another card from his pocket , to "play his joker"* on the decision and if correct the freekick is advanced ten yards or whatever. *assume many will be old enough to remember that. Oh, and Stuart Hall should do the commentaries.

Oh, and Stuart Hall should do the commentaries. Not really. If an umpire in a game of tennis is 'challenged', does he get all upset about somebody challenging his decision? No. How many serious refereeing decisions have ****ed up the direction of the games in this World cup? Answer is maybe a couple. So maybe 1 blue card per game is required. David Merrington should always do the commentary IMO.

I think thats not a bad idea actually though i'd personally alter it slightly in that like the Hawkeye system in Wimbledon in the player succesfully challenges a decision he gets that challenge back and that the captain should be booked if he uses them all up in a single half or something
Rut Posted 11 July, 2010 Share Posted 11 July, 2010 Just let the manager throw a 'red thing' onto the pitch by the 4th official. The game carries on as normal until the next stop in play. The 4th official then lets the ref know that the manager wants the play reviewed. Depending on the outcome play is either taken back - or the game carries on as it was - simple. One challenge allowed each half. This and a great big digital clock that is controlled by one person. It is all they do. It starts at 45.00 and counts down to 00.00. Each time there is a stop in play the clock stops. It would stop all subtle cheating by players trying to take time off the clock. Take as long as you want with that substitution, roll around on the deck for 10 mins - we don't care - the clock has stopped. When it hits 00.00 that is it - no time to take a free kick or corner (as per the rules of football!). Again - simple. Neither of course will actually happen. The 'big' clubs would hate any extra fairness creeping into the game. They are very used to being 1-0 down and being allowed to take a corner 2 mins over time etc etc.
