Colinjb Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Received a flyer in the post with my season ticket detailing this. Do we as fans anticipate any problems with this? I wonder who drove this. Saints no longer wanting to fund a police operation to close the roads or Hampshire Constabulary?
stevegrant Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 I give it until the Bournemouth game before that gets reversed
Third Division South Days Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 I suspect that in the current climate police charges are likely to be considerably hiked. It seems to to me that the club is looking at all areas where savings can be made or additional revenue generated, the exception being in investment to the playing squad/training facilities. Leaving the road open may delay getting back to the city centre by a couple of minutes. I'll live with that with a successful football side.
saint_mears Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 That is complete and utter madness ! If nobody mans the traffic lights its going to be complete gridlock for hours
dune Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 So instead of allowing an orderly flow of pedestrians to cross what is a very busy dual carriageway it'll be jaywalking en masse. Not a very clever move, and i'm sure the decision will be reversed after the first death.
Colinjb Posted 7 July, 2010 Author Posted 7 July, 2010 The more I think about it, the more glad I am that I park at College street. No need to attempt the 'walk of death.'
saint_mears Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Well it will be better for non football traffic away from the ground but unless there are changes made to the amount of cars allowed out by the traffic lights (something like 4 !) from britannia and princes road its going to be a total nightmare for those that park close to the ground.
Golden Balls Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Jesus! Thats going to be mental. The bridge over the railway will be rammed for a lot longer too I imagine.
dune Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Jesus! Thats going to be mental. The bridge over the railway will be rammed for a lot longer too I imagine. Expect to see the Kingsland codgers leaving 10 minutes earlier i.e 20 minutes before fulltime.
Junction 9 Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 I would say the vast majority of fans either go right at the bridge and head towards Northam bridge on the pavement, or go left and disperse towards St Mary st. People only walk in the road now because they can. There's also the subways taking you under the road if need be as well. Has always been overkill shutting the road.
niceandfriendly Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 It really won't be as bad as you're all suggesting IMO. People power will win through and the cars will have no choice but to stop anyway. Kein problem meine freunde.
Depressed of Shirley Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 The club don't pay for the road closure, it comes out of the Police budget. It will be dangerous letting everyone cross when they feel like it, but then the road isn't closed before the games.
The Kraken Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 The club don't pay for the road closure, it comes out of the Police budget. It will be dangerous letting everyone cross when they feel like it, but then the road isn't closed before the games. This is what I was wondering, who is liable for the police bill. Clearly the club have to pay for police inside and surrounding the stadium (i.e. on club property) but surely they're not liable for crowds of people that aren't actually on their property (otherwise where would the jurisdiction end?). So perhaps a cost cutting trial by the police rather than by the club?
70's Mike Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 SO away supporters coaches will sit at the Britainia Road Lights and go out 2 at a time, then sit in queues all the way through Bitterne to the M27, rather than having a clear run. m
Thedelldays Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 how hard is it to have a couple of coppers stopping the traffic for 30 mins....
Scudamore Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 It will be dangerous letting everyone cross when they feel like it, but then the road isn't closed before the games. Exactly...and with Kev by our sides we can do this...
RonManager Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Oh No, we will be forced to 'look where we're going'! Cortese out!
Amesbury Saint Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 perhaps they will just put the traffic lights to red?
hamster Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Ah, but any traffic problems created could be highlighted in a planning app for Jackson's Farm, no?
La BoIS Saint Posted 10 July, 2010 Posted 10 July, 2010 Sit down protest called for. Cortese out FFS!
St Lej Posted 10 July, 2010 Posted 10 July, 2010 This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.
GenevaSaint Posted 10 July, 2010 Posted 10 July, 2010 I never go that way as I walk to Woolston, but is it that much of a problem? Didn't they specifically build a subway for fans leaving SMS to cross Northam road?
