Why are we buying all these grey players?

I'm worried

They all look ill

Having not club doctor is clearly a disaster

Alpine must have a view on this surely??

Fantastic news! Hopefully we'll have a new CM in time for the trip to Switzerland

Or, perhaps we'll sign a Swiss based player whilst we're out there? Might explain the relatively late pre-season tour announcement. The arrangement details were dependent on the player signing....Pehaps?

Who are we playing again? Time for a spot of research...

Great signing and once again Cortese and Pardew stick two fingers up at the mongs on here!

Welcome Frazer. Good to have you on board!

They did well to keep that one quiet. Good signing

The difference with our current management structure than the previous Jokers. NC may appear aloof, but by God he's professional. If we can keep the our secrets secret at that level it cannot help but build a professional and winning team all round. God it's good to support this Club. Optimism!

Having to sell one of our ONLY remaining assets to a league rival and hated ex-manager.

I can't remember the last singular piece of Charlton news that has p1ssed me off so much.

Excellent news! I do like the way that Saints conduct their business discretely and we no longer seem to have weeks of speculation, followed too often with disappointment. I ought to feel sorry for those clubs whose decent/ top players we extract, I suppose: but, I don't as we have had plenty of being on the wrong end of such deals. Lets hope we keep our sought after players this season to make sure of that "Top Spot."

Bad news for The Echo though ..LOL

Maybe (probably) Bailey was never a target, but provided the smoke and mirrors for this transfer to appear as if by magic :toppa:

Wow, talk about bolt from the blue.

Only a botl fro the blue if you really didn't believe Saints were going to sign a quality right back after releasing the ones we had. Simply put, only an idiot could believe that.

I have to say I feel a bit sorry for them, it must be horrible knowing that next season is going to be so utterly disastrous with literally no good players coming in.

Why were you commenting about a Skate fans forum oin this thread?

So you knew we would sign such a good replacement, did you ?

Brilliant signing. I guess with him being in the team of the year he should be good enough to step up to NPC level next season. Still continuing to build for the future without neglecting the present. Love it.

1 or 2 more in before we go on tour?????

So what position would be the next target?

To be fair, I can understand why we "worry"

We had 15 or so years of having our best players sold to the highest bidder and the lack of real intention to Improve every season.

Years of mediocrity and being grateful for survival takes a toll on the psyche over that length of time.

Having new management and owners coming in and saying "We will do this" "We will not leak what we are doing" "We will get promotion" is actually very hard to take.

People make huge amounts of money out of training courses on "Change Management" because in general people get set in their ways, and don't believe it is happening.

AP & NC told us what they would do. I think it is fair to say that we still haven't learnt to trust them yet and we don't have an ingrained belief. Our reactions are more happy clappy shock, hence the gloating.

Will we ever come to terms with the reality of our new status? How long will it really last? Hopefully for the next 5 or more years.

The club IS changing, it is upsetting some fans (booking fees) some employees (car parking fees) and it is also upsetting the old mind-set.

We're Saints fans we go to football to moan. That's the next problem we'll face as hopefully we'll not have anything left to moan about

It's times like this I really feel sorry for alpine_saint.

Cortese has gone about signings in totally the right way since being with us. Their are very few rumours (those that are rumoured tend to be out of contract players so trying to tout their name about) and the signings are only announced when done. This is good news for us. The club is no longer pandering to the alpines of this world.

they also do not pander to every email and complaint from this message board either....which is good news

Exactly. We obviously waited a while and looked around for the BEST possible signing for the budget we have. Rather than just sign ANYONE who can play right back. Things take time and getting the RIGHT players takes time, there's alot of factors involved. We can moan and bleat all we want but what we have to remember is that Pardew KNOWS what we're lacking and what we're needing to go up. There's no doubt in my mind now the right back situation is sorted (Providing harding/mills/dickson could EASILY play there too despite being left footed) he's going to move onto our next area needing some fresh blood and thats upfrong and in the centre of the park. Watch this space in the next two weeks.

I would have expected this player to have been on the list before everyone went on holiday. £450k is a lot of money for this player and I really doubt anyone else from this league would have forked out their seasons budget on this one, for those rare few that have a budget. There will be offers in for other players, with us having to wait on the player/club to come to a decision.

A deal "upto £450k" according to Charlton

http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36238

Undisclosed according to Saints.

Cortese won't be a happy bunny with Charlton! :D

I'd guess £300k upfront and £150k if Saints are promoted.

Where does it say "up to" on that article?

While it's a good signing, credit where it's due, etc, I'm slightly surprised we've paid out £450k for a player who was signed on a free a year ago and only had a year remaining on his contract, particularly considering the hard bargain we drove with Southend for Lee Barnard.

That nine page thread that you created and has been recently locked, had at least 50 different people trying to tell you we would. We do, and you are still trying to defend your argument.

A good signing, especially as he was the Divisions PFA rb last season.

The fact we know very little else about him - whereas Dickson is known for 'Bale like' runs into attack - suggests that Richardson is a 'solid' rather than spectacular rb, more of Rodrigues than a Golac !A good recruit though.

Wecome Frazer, and well done to him and Saints for concluding this deal in a quiet dignified manner.*

*as opposed to Calderon in megaphoning his 'deal' to the world...

Tis a good point, with that (which wouldn't have gone down well with NC) and Calderon's failed medical, I think it's pretty certain we pulled out rather than him signing for Brighton.

They won't be that bad, they've still got enough players to at least be in the top 10. Gary Doherty's a decent enough signing at centre-back, for example. If Colchester and MK Dons can get comfortably in the top 10, I'm sure Charlton will manage, even with their financial problems.

Maybe he means we are not worth worrying about as we will be up at the top and not one of the teams he expects to be battling with? The other 20+ teams however are who they will be competing with and he may be worried that the competion will be firmly in there favour?

As much as I expect us to be pushing for the automatics I know seasons dont always play out the way it is hoped so dont want to take it for granted. Pards had a shocker at Charlton for some reason. There are no dead certs that history wont repeat its self so im still keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes right for us this season. :)

I think he saying that Charlton are going to be bottom of the League with Saints at the Top

He could be Alpine Addick with that negativity

On a lighter note a charleton fan on 606 wrote, "you can't blame him (Richardson) for going to wealthy saints, look where they are going for pre-season, Switzerland, Charlton are going to Welling and A.F.C. Wimbledon, I did LOL at that one.

Excellent signing. Feel a bit sorry for Charlton fans as we know what this is like all too well. Perhaps some of the worst moaners on this site will put their faith in Pards and Cortese now?

The level of hate towards Pardew hasn't cooled much though judging by their forum, definately Charlton's answer to Lowe/Askham! Still, it strikes me that Pards actually wouldn't be that bothered by it or the abuse from Brighton fans who seem to detest him almost as much. Mind you, November's game is a feast of hate for them - Pards, Fonte, Hammond and esp Harding. They will be drinking their Hater-ade by the pint-load before that one.

very average player IMO. If we can steal Samedo from them then they will have real problems.

Kelvin Davis (Southampton)

Kelvin Davis has played a big part in what has been a fine campaign for Saints despite their 10-point deduction for falling into administration. Less than 12 months ago, he turned down the opportunity to join West Ham, instead deciding to sign a three-year contract with the Saints.

Frazer Richardson (Charlton)

There were a few eyebrows raised when Leeds Unitedspacer.gif released Richardson last summer but what has been the Yorkshire outfit's loss has definitely been Charlton's gain as the 27-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding season at right back for the promotion-chasing Addicks.

Patrick Kisnorbo (Leeds United)

The serious Achilles tendon injury suffered by Kisnorbo last month cruelly brought to an end what was a stand-out season for the Australian international - and with it his dreams of playing in the World Cup finals - who Simon Graysonspacer.gif describes as a 'warrior-type leader'.

Gary Doherty (Norwich)

Veteran defender Gary Doherty appeared to be on his way out of Carrow Road at the end of last season but the Republic of Irelandspacer.gif international has thrived this term under the guidance of City boss Paul Lambertspacer.gif as the Canaries prepare for a return to the Championship.

Ian Harte (Carlisle)

Ian Hartespacer.gif has always had a good goalscoring record but his tally this term represents the best return of his long career. The former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland international is closing in on 20 goals for the campaign which is a remarkable total for a defender.

Wes Hoolahan (Norwich)

The Norwich midfielder continues to be a revelation, operating in behind the two strikers for Paul Lambert's men. With City in such free-scoring form this term, the 27-year-old could yet break the 20-goal barrier between now and the end of the campaign.

Jason Puncheon (Southampton)

Attacking midfielder Jason Puncheon enjoyed a successful loan spell at MK Dons earlier this season, but his impressive performances didn't go unnoticed by Southamptonspacer.gif and the 23-year-old was signed by the Saints from his parent club Plymouth in January for an undisclosed fee.

Robert Snodgrass (Leeds United)

Leeds may have had their problems since the turn of the year, but arguably their most consistent performer this season has been exciting young winger Snodgrass. The 22-year-old Scot has already reached double figures for the campaign and his silky skills on the flank have led to the former Livingston player being linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

Nicky Bailey (Charlton)

Nicky Bailey continues to pull the strings in midfield for promotion-chasing Charlton in what has been an outstanding season for the 25-year-old. The former Southend player was linked with a string of teams in January, but Addicks boss Phil Parkinson was adamant that his man was going nowhere. "He is our captain and it would be great if he led us back to the Championship."

Rickie Lambert (Southampton)

Rickie Lambert has been a revelation for Saints since joining from Bristol Roversspacer.gif last summer and he has already broken the 30-goal barrier. Manager Alan Pardewspacer.gif has been delighted with Lambert's all-round contribution, not just his goals, and rates him as 'the best player in the division in terms of his position'.

Grant Holt (Norwich)

City skipper Holtspacer.gif has also reached the 30-goal mark in what has been a brilliant second half of the campaign for the high-flying Canaries. And now Holt has his sights set on Terry All****'s club record of 37 in a season. "First and foremost, the most important thing is to get promoted and win the league, but I want to beat it," he said.

I'm hoping that this is Alan's Shopping list:

'Hmmm, Lets see whats next? Ian Harte First, then Over to Snodgrass, Pick up Hoolahan, and then Puncheon....Oh yes, he's already one of ours. Fnar, Fnar.'
