Bakovnetski Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Hmmm...doom-monger moaners Dune and Alpine not contributed to this thread yet? Surprise, surprise
The Kraken Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 great signing....brilliant where did this one come from.....?? Where they all come from DellDays; completely out of the blue and completely hushed up by the club. I personally much prefer this way of dealing with transfers, especially when compared to the protracted Skacel debacle.
Charlie Wayman Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Brilliant Signing. Looks like Capello will want to be seen around SMS quite a lot in coming seasons, indeed he may want to play our whole squad if this goes on. Offer he couldn't refuse? Nothing to do with concrete and boots one hopes?? Just need Carrick and Barry now and that should do it!
Matthew Le God Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 A deal "upto £450k" according to Charlton http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36238 Undisclosed according to Saints. Cortese won't be a happy bunny with Charlton! I'd guess £300k upfront and £150k if Saints are promoted.
Thedelldays Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Where they all come from DellDays; completely out of the blue and completely hushed up by the club. I personally much prefer this way of dealing with transfers, especially when compared to the protracted Skacel debacle. what seems to go hand in hand with this...is everything hushed up by the club...if people can deal with that..then no problem
SuperSAINT Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Great signing. Heard it on the radio driving home and 1st thing I thought was "league 1 team of the season's right back". Brilliant. So that's the league's best right-back, and left-back onboard! Who's next?
doggface Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Not over familiar with the player, but by reading all the reports sounds like a canny move. I was just talking to a friend about our policy is sign the best players in our division (Puncheon, Lambert etc) and then this happens! Now gives Murty an opportunity in pre season to steak a claim to be 2nd right back.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Great signing, very happy! Now a box to box midfielder, maybe a pace right or left winger and a back up striker and were done.
Under Weststand Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Good news day today then quality RB in so the defence is now sorted out. Well done to AP & NC doing a very professional job in keeping this one quite once again. Charlton fans are gutted which is always a good sign.
Smirking_Saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Great signing, i must have gone offline about 10 minutes before this was announced. Great bit of business, we now must have the best team in the division. Quality
JustMike Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 good signing. need another RB, striker, CM then we are about set :-)
SNSUN Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 YES YES YES! I suggested Frazer as a HCDAJFU signing a couple of seasons ago when he was at Leeds - 2 years late for my wish list, but still happy! Bags of experience at this level and was the Leeds captain. A very good signing, I'd be interested to know how much we paid, but I guess that could come out in the future. Only today on the other thread I said I'd be happy when we sign a right back, and I am. Harding as back up? Or more to come? This has whet our appetite for more now!
StD Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Who saw that one coming then??? Great signing, charlton's finances must be very dire if he only cost us "up to £450k!". I'm just glad I didn't slit my wrists as 10am came and went on July 1st without a single signing.
LostBoys Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Good signing - always encouraging when the supporters of the side losing a player whinge about it. Wait for the doom and gloom merchants try to play it down
positivepete Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Offer he couldn't refuse? Nothing to do with concrete and boots one hopes?? Charlton are loosing a few of their good players to offers they cannot refuse, rumours of the admin man hanging around the Valley.
scott_saints Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Offer they couldn't refuse? 450k? PMSL, that's spare change in these parts
fish fingers Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Clearly the club are going about player purchases in the right way. Keep it quiet and get your targets. Good work NC and AP. Another good player identified and bought.
SNSUN Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 i know i was teasing.. Charlton fans seem a bit gutted losing him..always a good sign! http://www.charltonlife.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=35463&page=1#Item_0 They do sound utterly peed off. I remember all those times in the noughties when we were selling our best players - it wasn't a great feeling. It's so nice to have the shoe on the other foot, but I do sympathise with them a touch. I notice they fancy signing Jackson - I expect most of the top teams in League One and the whole of the nPC will fancy signing him tbf...
Painswick Saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Great signing. Presumably negates any talk of Dan Harding going to RB slot.
rolosfc Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Absolutely fantastic signing, well done for keeping this one quiet! Can't wait for the season now!
Appy Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Are Charlton broke? Why would they sell their right back to a rival? Now for Stock, a striker and extra winger and we're sorted. Very much broke. Close to admin i hear.
SparkySaint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Having to sell one of our ONLY remaining assets to a league rival and hated ex-manager. I can't remember the last singular piece of Charlton news that has p1ssed me off so much. This was my personal favourite
Window Cleaner Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Great signing. Presumably negates any talk of Dan Harding going to RB slot. I kinda get the impression that Harding will play as left back as usual and that Dickson will play in midfield on the left, with Puncheon on the right and Lallana moving into a box to box role with Morgan doing all the dirty work and water carrying. No need for any more midfielders as that will leave us with Hammond on hand.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Are Charlton broke? Why would they sell their right back to a rival? They have huge debts. They now have a tiny squad with out of contract players leaving and have also sold Shelvey to Liverpool and Bailey to Boro. Desperately trying to avoid administration. They won't be anywhere near as strong as they were last season.
Smirking_Saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Great signing. Presumably negates any talk of Dan Harding going to RB slot. I don't think any sane, football minded person actually believed that to be an option for Pardew. Now lets go for Semedo aswell if they are skint, great midfielder.
trousers Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 I make that about £4m left in this season's war chest?
SuperSAINT Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Now gives Murty an opportunity in pre season to steak a claim to be 2nd right back. Nice idea, DF. If he can recover, I'd sign him up. Top bloke, and still a hell of a player in my view.
West End Saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Good work cracking signing out of nowhere bosh get in right back sorted Murty for cover happy day's Now a quality centre midfielder back up for Lambo Antonio back and we are ****ing with gas. COYS
Thedelldays Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 I make that about £4m left in this season's war chest? might as well save a cool millie for january..
SNSUN Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Are Charlton broke? Why would they sell their right back to a rival? Now for Stock, a striker and extra winger and we're sorted. His contract was up next summer and they can't afford to let him go on a free next summer.
Professor Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Excellent signing and quite a shock. Was in London over the weekend and read the football pages in the South London paper. In the Charlton news there was coverage of Nicky Bailey going to Boro but not a mention of anything about Richardson, so definitely well kept quiet. Also interesting that it seems it was the fee offered by Saints that clinched the deal. It does look as if they are prepared to use the financial muscle, which is a very positive sign, and with Connolly signed as well my optimism is on the rise! Midfield next?
corsacar saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 As someone has previously stated we now have the best right back and left back in this league.[both Dickson and Richardson are probably good enough for the championship].We are certainly putting everything in place,to give ourselves the best chance of getting there.
alpine_saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Wow, talk about bolt from the blue. Very pleased. Very relieved. Would be nice if Murty stayed on a pay-as-you-play back-up or a reasonable contract. Now wondering what other white rabbits will be pulled from NCs top hat in the next couple of weeks. Excited for the first time.
alpine_saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Any comment from our alpine correspondant? Please see above.

alpine_saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Hmmm...doom-monger moaners Dune and Alpine not contributed to this thread yet? Surprise, surprise Do grow up, I havent had PC access for the last 2 hours.

S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 This is how we do our transfers now guys! Who ever called this one? no one! but heck it's a good one. Best RB in this league last year, he was terrific in the playoff game i watched. He's also performed in the champ too, well done pard's and co, really good signing - and there is money there!
alpine_saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 I can't believe you seriously thought they wouldn't be signing players. Why ? There have been some revenue optimisation activities which could have indicated a book-balancing exercise underway.
trousers Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Why are we announcing this early enough for the Echo morning edition? ;-)
Um Bongo Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Excellent signing, and solves the right back problem. I'd still seek another as cover, however the Defence looks solid. Now for a midfielder & Striker and we are done.
Smirking_Saint Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Why are we announcing this early enough for the Echo morning edition? ;-) I bet all those people that rely on the news that 12 hours earlier must be extremely relieved.
itchen_dan Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 I am very happy with this and it proves the point that nothing will be announced until it is on our OS. Many of the Charlton fans seem to think we paid over the odds for him with many of them saying they only expected around 200k-250k because he only has 1 year left on his contract. Either way, extremely satisfied with this piece of business and long may these type of quality transfers continue!
Window Cleaner Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Excellent signing, and solves the right back problem. I'd still seek another as cover, however the Defence looks solid. Now for a midfielder & Striker and we are done. what do we need another striker for ? Lambert,Connolly and Barnard is that not good enough for League 1? We must have someone in the reserves who is good enough to play the odd game ,we need to be careful about signing too many players isn't it 25 senior players maximum this season? No point in signing players you can't put on the roster.

SNSUN Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Why are we announcing this early enough for the Echo morning edition? ;-) I must say kudos to the Echo. In lieu of my phone not getting SWF, I use the Echo's mobile site to keep up to date with the latest things Saints, and that's how I found out. Granted they probably got it from the OS, but useful nonetheless.
