bungle Posted 5 July, 2010 Posted 5 July, 2010 Finally, a return to some proper cricket that is worth paying attention to. Kent won the toss and chose to bat, currently 147-3. Hants team: Carberry, Adams, Dawson, McKenzie, Vince, Ervine, Pothas, Cork, Briggs, Balcombe, Tomlinson. Need a good result really - have picked up in the LVCC, but have drawn a couple of games from winning positions.
bungle Posted 5 July, 2010 Author Posted 5 July, 2010 Blimey - ripping through them now. 172-3 becomes 189-7.
chrisobee Posted 5 July, 2010 Posted 5 July, 2010 Please, no tail end rally. We really do need a win.
manji Posted 5 July, 2010 Posted 5 July, 2010 Was up there today. The spell in the afternoon with DC and Balcombe bowling in tandem was outstanding.
bungle Posted 6 July, 2010 Author Posted 6 July, 2010 And now McKenzie has reached his hundred. 297/3.
chrisobee Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Now 383/5, Carberry out for 156 and McKenzie 113. Put on 254 for the 4th wicket, clearly higher than Kent's entire innings. Nice going, Vince and Pothas put on 40 odd so far.
chrisobee Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Excellent days work, 404/5 at close. Yet again we are in a very, very strong position !
mattpike Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Good batting performance from Carbs and McKenzie, just what Hants needed, should be able to wrap this one up hopefully
chrisobee Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Good batting performance from Carbs and McKenzie, just what Hants needed, should be able to wrap this one up hopefully Oh no, I didn't want to say that and put the mockers on us !
Dark Munster Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 Good batting performance from Carbs and McKenzie, just what Hants needed, should be able to wrap this one up hopefully
chrisobee Posted 6 July, 2010 Posted 6 July, 2010 I swear St Landrew has said all those things at some point in time, he's always wrong as well:D
chrisobee Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Still going great guns, 516/7 at lunch. Vince 57, Pothas 78, Ervine 39*, Cork 0 *
bungle Posted 7 July, 2010 Author Posted 7 July, 2010 Bowling going well. Having declared at 549/7, Kent are now 18/2 and Rob Key has retired hurt, although not sure why.
stevegrant Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Done by a Cork bouncer, apparently 64/3 now (effectively 64/4 if Key can't come back in)
chrisobee Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Done by a Cork bouncer, apparently 64/3 now (effectively 64/4 if Key can't come back in) Shame Amjad Khan is carrying an injury, I assume he will bat but can't be helpful. We aren't really going to win though surely !!
stevegrant Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 118/5, 6 down if Key doesn't return, 7 down if Khan can't bat either Potential innings victory, and having taken full bonus points, that'll be a massive lift.
chrisobee Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Really though we shouldn't laugh at injured players:lol: Just really need to get rid of van Jaarsveld but Kent are still 181 runs behind, no rain in the offing there I hope. Quite gloomy here.
keithd Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Easy win on the cards. Im off to Taunton Friday for my first away of the season. Few beers, watch the cricket, tear up the town after. OK few more beers and a curry in the Rajpoot, am getting on a bit now. But should be in good spirits for the game tho, looking forward to seeing Tresco et al in action on the tiny ground
John B Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 Tea time, Corky still doing the business- 4-38. We need a Corky type for Saints an old Pro with lots of experience and proven ability
Evil Monkey Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 191-9 (Key couldnt continue). Hants win by an innings and 111 runs. 24points. Thatt'll do nicely.
chrisobee Posted 7 July, 2010 Posted 7 July, 2010 We need a Corky type for Saints an old Pro with lots of experience and proven ability No coincidence Bally was key to our 1977/78 promotion, don't quite expect that sort of quality though
bungle Posted 8 July, 2010 Author Posted 8 July, 2010 Excellent win. Just what we needed. No posts from Weston Saint yet - was he there? Would like to know more!
corsacar saint Posted 8 July, 2010 Posted 8 July, 2010 Ron[Weston Saint],was definately there monday, had a long chat with him.I think he was going tuesday, not sure about wednesday. I went first two days, wish I had gone yesterday now.I was going today,as I am sure along with a lot of others did not expect us to win in 3 days. Absolutely delighted with the result, hopefully we are out of the bottom two for good now. Finally I hope Corky stays skipper until Dimi is back,he is a more inspirational skipper than NC, and is it a coincidence NC batted well in the game free of the captaincy.

I agree though I assume NC = NP WS was on here this morning but did not share his deep insight:x

Please tell us more about days 1 and 2!
corsacar saint Posted 8 July, 2010 Posted 8 July, 2010 Day 1 we bowled well as a team, although the Kent collapse losing 5 wickets for 10 runs or whatever was rather unexpected. Day 2 the [obvious] key was the magnificent partnership between Carberry and Mackenzie, who barely gave a chance between them. [Have to add the Kent bowling minus Amjad was quite ordinary. Joseph is very quick, but has a tendency to bowl an awful lot of no balls..]. In my previous post I did mean NP .[And not NC-freudian slip].
