Ponty Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Penalties came a bit early here but, I'll be honest, I have no idea what's going on. Why was Spain's penalty disallowed and retaken?
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 (edited) Penalties came a bit early here but, I'll be honest, I have no idea what's going on. Why was Spain's penalty disallowed and retaken? Encroaching, I think. ** EDIT** The commentators have picked up the fact that the ref didn't pick up on the encroaching during the Paraguay penalty. Ponty Posted 3 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 3 July, 2010 That's harsh.
stevegrant Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Not harsh that Xabi Alonso's one was retaken at all, there were at least 3 Spain players well inside the area when the kick was taken. Paraguay's one should probably have been retaken as well for the same reason, so while Spain got away with it on Cardozo's one, they didn't the second time. The keeper's challenge on Fabregas from the rebound was also a blatant penalty

With you on the Fabregas pen too.

alpine_saint Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Right result, IMO. Absolute rubbish (IMO) Paraguay had a perfectly good goal disallowed in the first half, and their peno should have been retaken too. Is it only the right result when the fancied team wins ? dubai_phil Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Well played Paraguay, their coach got his tactics spot on, they just ran out of steam. Agree with Alps they should have been one up at half time Commentator cliche "The tournament will be relieved Spain are through) Santa Cruz - looked about two yards off the pace when he came on.. The Officials made mistakes so one less group for Howard Webb to compete against for another match

chrisobee Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 I think if the penalties had been retaken until there was NO encroachment the game would never have ended !!!

Never thought I'd say that TBH
chrisobee Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Right result, IMO. Probably extra time and more penalties would have been right. At least the players would have found it hard to encroach from the half way line:D
