St Landrew Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Like the railway based programme that Mark Williams [Fast Show - today I'll be mostly...] has also presented, this is a real delight. If you like programmes that highlight Victorian engineering innovation, then is one for you. Mark Williams is not just a presenter, but a knowledeable enthusiast. And it shows. If you like programmes that highlight Victorian engineering innovation, then is one for you. Mark Williams is not just a presenter, but a knowledeable enthusiast. And it shows. I'm watching it now. As a professional archaeologist I would say that Mark's series are by far and away the best presented IA programmes so far. Most know of our Fred (Dibnah) and he did well in unveiling the industrial world to the general public, but never really got away from the 'cult of Fred'. Adam Hart Davis started the ball rolling really, with his 'Heroes' series, and Chris Barrie's series are very good too. But Mark combines an excellent level of technical detail with an engaging and clear delivery style which sticks, and a bit of 'Fast Show' madness thrown in! As an aside I have had the pleasure of sharing a pint with Fred and have appeared in one Of Chris Barrie's series (The 1930's).
St Landrew Posted 3 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 3 July, 2010 Yep, Ron you're absolutely spot on. I couldn't agree more.
bridge too far Posted 3 July, 2010 Share Posted 3 July, 2010 I really enjoy both Mark and Chris' programmes (I love industrial archaeology). But I didn't realise until just now that they'd both been in Red Dwarf. I don't know why, really as I'm a fan of Red Dwarf too - I just hadn't made the connection.
