Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 In the NOTW match report of the Barnsley game, they reported that he was left out and is now expected to make an initial loan move somewhere before a permanent move, for a nominal fee, in January. Come on Rupey - he's a local lad who came through our youth system - any chance of using what minimal reserves we have left to bring him home??? He's proved his talent.

Chris Larkin Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 His girlfriend is a friend of my son, lives in Totton. I doubt we could afford his wages. Barnsley do only pay about threepence a week to their players though (Kayodi Odejayi was said to be on about £1,500 per week last season - Howard can't be on much more). I'm sure someone on similar wages far worse than Brian Howard could be offloaded in January, if he wants to come. But why do Barnsley only want a 'nominal fee'? There was paper talk over the summer that Everton were going to pay £5million for Howard. What's happened since then?

Chez Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 Why a nominal fee? he's a class player. Very strange decision, must be on massive wages I guess? He was ****ed off that Barnsley priced him out of a big move in the summer. He's out of contract next summer and won't sign a new deal. Sheff United know this hence £600,000 is the price. The loan deal/signing in Januray is done according to BBC Sheffield. The Barnsley fans weren't surprised or all that fussed as he has done nothing this season. ottery st mary Posted 29 September, 2008 Share Posted 29 September, 2008 We all know and hope that all pro footballers play to the best of their ability for themselves, the club and supporters. Maybe the Barnsley support have been going through what we had to put up with over the years watching some of our wantaway players.

I spoke to a couple of Barnsley fans after the game the other week and they said the same. Their exact words where "Too many of our players don't want to play for our fat **** of a manager." Losing Howard will be a big blow to them for sure, just a shame we couldn't get him, he would be perfect for us.
Gordon Mockles Posted 29 September, 2008 Share Posted 29 September, 2008 (edited) In the NOTW match report of the Barnsley game, they reported that he was left out and is now expected to make an initial loan move somewhere before a permanent move, for a nominal fee, in January. Come on Rupey - he's a local lad who came through our youth system - any chance of using what minimal reserves we have left to bring him home??? Completely agree with this (good) post but it seems a bit late now (with Jordan arriving - is that our last loan allowed?!) My friend's Dad used to be Brian's manager at tyro level and Howard is exactly the type of experienced, physical player that, I believe, wouldn't cost the earth but would, at the same time, contribute positively to the strength of the squad (especially if we reverted to playing TWO upfront and stopped relying on Mc Goldrick!) In hindsight, he may not be as cheap as some initially anticipated but a valuable asset with our current squad strength, age and depth of experience. Chris Larkin Posted 29 September, 2008 Share Posted 29 September, 2008 I think you're allowed up to 5 loanees in a 16 man squad. That's true, but you can also only have so many loanees in total during a season. I think it may be that you can have up to ten total loan signings in a season, no more than four of whom can be on a short term loan at any one time. At the moment, we have Jack Cork, Romain Gasmi, Thomas Pekhart and Jordan Robertson on short term loan. If we want Brian Howard, we can either take him on a season long loan, or wait until January. Could someone please check on FM to see if the loan rules I've assumed are correct?
