Heaven knows - football's a 'funny old game' consisting of 90 halves played over 2 minutes. Anything could happen and probably does.

I don't play these footy computer games but I would have thought you could set that team up against the same teams we played in SA.

Yes. It would have got murdered. IMO of course.

Ponty, thanks for the response mate...how did you feel when the group was drawn? Did you pay any attention my friend? England have just miserably failed to beat the US, Al-freaking-geria and were rancid against a p!sspoor, brand new country with the population of Birmingham before suffering one of the biggest humiliations in English football history to a young, dark horse German team.

IMO of course that is.

Your team would not even have done as well as Capello's. Maybe the pride would have lifted them more than the actual team's seemed to, but they would have been let down on talent. I think they would have been destroyed down the flanks.

Sorry to seem pedantic but a couple of the names mentioned were not considered as they

were still injured or had only played a few minutes and so were nothing like fit enough.

Owen and Hargreaves

Fair comment re; Hargreaves....however even half fit (supposedly he was actually fit) he would have had 100% more product than any midfielder we used, in '06 he was star of the show.

How could Owen (who is a shadow of his old self) possibly under any circumstances whatsoever been as underwhelming as Rooney?? What a joke he was - he should be ashamed to wear that St George's cross tat on his shoulder. Gabby would have died trying.

Got home late this evening, and stepped on the Southampton News Extra, that the Echo insists on dropping through my door. Before I threw it into the recycle bin, I bothered to read Matty's views on the England team and Capello. He was completely baffled by the woeful performances, and was highly critical of the lack of passion and self belief within the team. He also went onto suggest that these players might not be anything like as good as their hype presents them.

He also said that although he was unsure whether Capello should be given another chance, he was against a reactionary change of manager, and cited that Capello had never been a National and Tournament manager before, so he was learning too. He didn't think the FA would choose Harry Redknapp as his replacement, in any case. He favoured Roy Hodgson or Stuart Pearce, if there was going to be a change.

I know he has always been a bit of a fence sitter on goal-line technology, but the incidences in the World Cup had convinced him it was time to implement it.

So there, that's what our illustrious Le God thinks about Team England or whatever they call themselves.

Warnock at RB, Bullard in CM and Walcott at RM...

Team wouldnt have got out of the group stages - we should play 433 anyway and use our attacking pace.

Yes - they would have given 110% (you would of hope) but people forget that teams always seem to be well up for giving England a game and if we dont score in the first 20mins then we always struggle.

Making no excuses though - we didnt deserve to get to the quarters so lets move on.

Hmmm - listen that team would have got murdered in central midfield as Hargreaves & Bullard are both crocks. But don't think you're a million miles away. I'll go with...

------------- Robinson -------------

-Richards - Cahill - Jagielka - Warnock-

------------- Parker ----------------

Walcott ----- Wilshire ------ Johnson

------- Agbonlahor - Zamora --------

If Zamora is unfit then Bent

Just going with a team that was 'not good enough'...they couldn't have done worse, think about it zip-zip with a woeful Algeria containing a couple poor skates and a humiliating bottom spanking by the old (in FACT in this case very young) enemy...two words 'disgraceful'.....Rooney FFS
