Gemmel Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 I agree in terms of the resort - the Echo indicated, according to DBP (I'm out of the area so can't read the rag), that this was in place a month ago. IMO the opponents & hence the venue's had not been finalised. Look at who everyone else is playing for their first friendly in our division on the list that Steve provided - most are playing minor (and in some cases very minor) non-league sides. We're playing a top level side from the French and Swiss leagues. That must have taken some arranging, would a PL side entertain a pre-season friendly (not when they're on tour themselves) against a third level team from abroad? In the grand scheme of things, this doesnt effect me, i am and never was, considering going on the pre-season tour. But i can't agree with your reasoning, in fact I think it is almost the opposite. The bigger the club, the earlier these things are planned. You don't make a phone call to arrange a game the next week. This was done and dusted ages ago (IMO). The other side of the coin is that if this really was all last minute stuff, then given the issues that arose from last season's lack of pre-season, then somebody needs their b0ll0cks in a vice for poor preparation......I just can't see Pardew or Cortese letting that happen. Dave Benson Phillips Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 Can I ask a quick question. You've obviously got a problem with NC, and in fairness on some issues you may be correct, but what is the objective of your campaign against him? I've read several threads where you've repeatedly slated him for whatever reason, but what are you trying to achive? Are you trying to bring things to ML's attention to make a change for the good of the club and fans or are you just trying to make sure everyone on here is aware of your opinion so you can say I told you so IF things go wrong/get worse? It's not a dig I'm just trying to understand your motivation in all this? As someone who was going to get a season ticket on the installment plan and part of a group of 10 lads who were wanting to arrange to go on the pre-season tour, as a direct result of the 'closed doors' policy of SFC now, I have been unable to do either. I do think the communication is shocking, I can see it getting alot lot worse, I do think that Cortese is p!ssing more and more people off day by day, and it would be better as fans we put a stop to it now. You have people who will always tread on egg shells and foolishly think if we upset Cortese then Liebherr will pull the plug, but day by day more and more people are being affected by the 'like it or lump it' attitude of Cortese... as time goes on more and more people will 'lump it' I predict the next f*ck ups on the part of SFC will involve scrapping the Ted Bates Trophy and something to do with memberships. I do genuinely hope I am wrong... but if they are going to be consistent, then that's what I expect.
Gorgiesaint Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 I think you are missing the point, the club could have announced the training camp weeks/months ago in response to the many people that emailed them. There was nothing stopping them responding to individual enquiries saying " We are going to Interlaken between 8th and 18th July, although no details for matches have been finalised yet " , they didn't even need to publish it, but could have simply answered the question to those that asked. We have been discussing it on here since January. And then been inundated with emails asking when the friendlies have been finalised (for months on end). No doubt, there would have been a thread on here blaming the club for only announcing the tour but not the important bit i.e. the matches. Perhaps AP doesn't want fans hanging around the training camp - maybe thats why they've gone to Switzerland rather than do this at Marchwood? I think you're the one who is missing the point. The games were announced as soon as the details were finalised - bear in mind neither is in Interlaken. Perhaps NC has told two top level teams that our massive third level team will only play them if they keep the details secret and away from their own websites until we've announced it first? Or is it the fact that our site announced confirmed details before both of the other teams involved a coincidence. Just for your information, had the Sochaux game taken place at their home ground - its 150 miles by road & a 2.5 hour drive to get there. Now we know then venue (barring any underhand tactic by NC) has just been agreed because although Sochaux's website had the game published on Tuesday - it stated time & venue to be confirmed. Yes you could argue that 150 miles for those who have already driven to Switzerland is not much more but perhaps the club are happy for people to go to the games but not hang around the training camp. Is that so hard to fathom?
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 Yep, as it stands looks like the Ted Bates Trophy is being withdrawn, what with the digs about Matty, Keegan, Mac and all, the banning of Benali, I can only assume the Doncaster train still stands proudly in the board room. It does seem that Mr Cortese is not one for history and he believes that SFC's history started the day Liebherr signed the cheque for the club. I'm afraid your point is going to be even stronger when they announce the hospitality for this year...

xerox Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 Well done everyone on here for forcing the Club to announce its pre-season fixture plans at last - about bloodee time too. I am not sure how we are going to get down to Interlaken to see the games 'though, perhaps Snr Corleone will lay on a double-decker Airbus from Eastleigh Airport, there must be enough of them around lying redundant? Looks like poor old Ted has all but been forgotten? Exit the Ted Bates Trophy, I know it was a cr.ap trophy for a cr.ap match and nobody gave a t.oss but hey! we are really quite good at winning cr.ap trophies! Now the lads are up for a bit of mountaineering and male bonding although I fear they will be well and truly knackered when they get back home, one hopes we will be spared the OS showing us pics of the beggers snow-balling each other starkers. Not a word to the womenfolk mind you. you may want to re-phrase that bit mate?

Dave Benson Phillips Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 Yup' date=' that's the one.[/quote'] No doubt that is another great decision by Cortese in the eyes of most. So no Ambassadors club, meaning former players not invited back to the club, but also legends who have had suites named after them to commemorate their service to Southampton FC have also had that honour removed. Nice one.

Nice one. As someone who spent the day in the Ambassadors Club for the Sheffield United "we are staying up" day, I can say that if it's true they've ditched that then it is a huge loss to the club. That day will still go down as the most enjoyable day of football I've ever had, which includes Wembley finals. And the renaming of the suites seems to be a very Lowe-esque move. trousers Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 Ok. I've worked it out. Cortese is a closet Pompey fan who, on seeing SFC was for sale this time last year, phoned up Markus to hatch a wheeze whereby they buy the club and gradually turn it into a laughing stock. To disguise their fiendish plan they bought the best players in the league in various positions as a smokescreen to their underlying aim to destroy the club. trousers Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 Does anyone have the exact wording of the Echo piece? What if "99%" of the arrangements and agreements were in place but the actual master contract hadn't been signed? Smirking_Saint Posted 2 July, 2010 Share Posted 2 July, 2010 My personal theory, is not because he wanted to detriment the fans etc, however i do think it was a bit of short sightedness on NC and ML's part. My thinking is that the plan always was to take the club to Switzerland for this season and that was going to be the ONLY destination, i would imagine many clubs have a few destinations for a training camp/tour in mind in case they can't get one. However it is probable that NC had his mind fixated on Switzerland and that only, so perhaps he was unable to book the camp as quick as he would have liked ? Booked friendlies as quickly if you get my drift. I just can't see for the life of me he would do this to p*ss the fans off if you see what i mean. It could also tie in that the Echo found out NC's choice was Switzerland however it took NC time to actually source a destination.

Suggest getting in quick as the fares relate to individual trains.Tickets can be bought over the internet I'm on the 13.01 from Basel SBB arriving 1.5 hrs later and returning at 2133 arrive Basel 2255. With respect mate, I am proud of Southamptons history and the players that contributed to it. Southampton FC was formed in 1885, not 2009 as Cortese seems to think. The fact he is doing all of this in the 125th anniversary season makes it all the more disturbing as well. When I say wipe out, I think you know what I mean, so don't be pedantic. Let me word it a bit better for you though. Failing to recognise the clubs proud history, this is shown by an apparant lack of Ted Bates Trophy game and removing former players names off hospitality packages, as well as digs and pops at former players, banning Benali from the stadium and the fact Le Tissier does not wish to attend games anymore. Failing to recognise the clubs proud history, unless for corporate gain.
