Where are all these signings then ?

I have been supporting the Saints since 1966. I can't remember many, if any, times we have made a shedload of signings in June/3rd July.

If we start the season without the replacements we need then Alpine's impatience will have been justified. But that is not going to happen and we are just going to have to put up with more of these negative posts until we draw/lose our first match and then he will be negative about Pardew again.

I wonder what justifies your arrogance and complacency too Alps? That same team won a cup, beat Norwich at home and had one of thebest goal differences in the league...but hey, just keep looking at life through your sh*t tinted glasses eh.

That sums it up doesn't it...you appear eager for saints to fail so you can gloat. You do realise we could sign no-one and start well, sign lots of players and start badly, and vice versa?

Nope, we will probably start badly whichever was, as we normally do. At least if we get a couple of decent players in, the probability is less.

Of course, as a life-long Saints fan, I really want Saints to lose, dont I ???

Where are the roley eyes on this new site ?

finshed the season great, why can't we start this season well? We have a good team.

Ask Capello he might help he thought he had a decent team based on the qualifiers

A good team that has already lost 2 key players and the only player that passes for a proper RB.

Antonio and Waigo were not "key" players. They were largely on the bench following the arrival of Puncheon. Puncheon started every league game following his arrival, Waigo and Puncheon between them did not manage half that many starts.

I would not say we lost two key players. One they did do a job but were by no means 'key' and two I highly doubt we lost them as I expect if we wanted them we would have bought them.

As great as it would be to have made a few signings by now (not least to shut a few people up!!) it's actually a good sign that the players Pardew has targeted are actually quality for our level. It seems likely that we will be paying a bit for 4 or 5(a RB, a CM, a striker, and also a central defender better than Jaidi, and hopefully Antonio) which means that we won't be the only clubs in for these players. That means negotiations and patience. The selling club will push the price as much as possible and they will be in no hurry...theres 2 months till the window shuts!

we have lost our weakest player from our starting 11. Antonio did well, a lot of our good performances he was not even used as a sub. Good example, we won two games in a row scoring 5 in both (Hudderfield in March) Those were both with our current best 10 plus Otsemebor.

Last month we had a thread on watching the paint dry as there didn't appear to be much activity on the playing staff side. We had been told Dixon was coming and that other 'targets' would be first announced on the OS. In the meantime, there was still no news of whether Connolly had re-signed. Very glad that Alpine has started another discussion although the complaint by the loyalists that we should all just wait and see, and then be grateful, has been fairly predictable. Several people did say last month that if nothing had happened by 1st July they would start to worry, so presumably the worry quotiant will have risen. It would be a major shock if there were no signings, or loans, before the season starts but as AP said himself last year, you need to get in first to get the best people on offer. The worry is not that signings will not happen, but will they be the best that could have been achieved?

To be honest, I wasn't that impressed with Puncheon other than in the Walsall and Huddersfield matches, he wasn't very good in all the others, and i'm willing to bet that both Waigo and Antonio did more for the team over the same period of games than Puncheon did.

Can anyone gaurantee that we wont pick up two or three major injuries in the first couple of games? No, so surely it is important to bolster the squad in key areas at the earliset possible opportunity, let alone the right back and at least one player with some real pace, that the first team needs. We and especially Pardew don't have the time to allow players to gel and bed in once the season has started. Remember nothing less than automatic promotion will be tolerated and their are no excuses if it isn't achieved.

Not sure about 5 or 6, but the concensus certainly is minimum 3 - a right back, central midfielder and either Papa or Antonio back. I still feel one of them will come back - neither have signed anywhere else yet. Having both of them was a luxury.

The right quality right back and central midfielder aren't easy to find and tempt to Saints. I haven't been disappointed that we "missed" any of the frees that our competitors have signed so far. But even if we take longer than we want to get what we need, I'm still confident that we'll have 15 more points on the board after 10 games than we did last season. 88 points would have got us automatic promotion.

I'm sure our leaders have a long term strategy, building for and through the Championship. Whenever our new signings arrive they will fit into that strategy, not make the number up. We tried that.

So if we need these players and it has been obvious for sometime that we do why have they not been recruited yet?

Quite simply ages left of trasfer window, we don't know what stage any negotiations have reached and not huge benfit in signing players to pay them for their holidays

Puncheon finished up with 9 assists, the second highest at the club, in just half a season.

Like you I thought he didn't perform for a lot of the games but during that time I noticed that even whilst not "performing" he was still creating goals.

In the past our signings would have been accomodated in pre booked rooms at the De Vere hotel.

It is quite certain our further three signings are ready for medicals and press release on Monday/Wed.

How do I know this....Simple really ...in line with the 40% Goverment cut backs.... I was informed by my main man in The Southerners

that three rooms B&B had been booked upstairs, for next week.

Antonio signed new contract at Reading and Papa is registered with Fiorentina.

Good post. The "July 1st" brigade have now shifted the goalpost to August, bizarrely.

Really, the lack of ability or willingness to criticise the club is reminiscent of the worst extremes of Communism...

I think if we don't make signings in time there can be justified criticism.

As pre-season hasn't started yet any criticism is premature and completely irrational.

And lol@ your last line.
