Where are all these signings then ?

Might need to add a GK to the list of wanted positions if KD rumours turn out to be true??

Far too early to panic besides which we can't do anything anyway.

I'm sure the club know exactly what they want and are making plans to acquire it.

"Why are people so worried about us not signing anyone, what is wrong with people?" said Holloway, who has been linked with a move for Arsenal's Danny Simpson, in The Blackpoolspacer.gif Gazette.

"We will get it sorted, just calm down.

"Trust the people I brought in last year. So if you're worried about the people I'll bring in this year, don't."

"If you think we are going to go into this season with what we've got, which is 16 players, then they must be crazy.

"Now is not the time to worry."

Maybe Alpine should have a word with Ian Holloway and tell him he's doing it all wrong.

Easier to tempt players to the Premier than it is to League 1.

Billy, we had no trouble attracting the likes of Harding, Jaidi, Connolly, Lambert, and Hammond last year when our prospects were much more bleak than this year. I've no reason to believe it will be significantly more difficult this term. If anything it should be easier.

The phrase "now is not the time to worry" is key for me.

True to a point but we still need a right back (or two) decent midfield cover and some pace in the team. The longer these new players have to work with the current players the better surely. Look what happened around the january window we bought in some great players but there was a dip in form as they got to know their team mates. Once they had we where the best side in the divison on form. If we bring in new signings to late (like August for example) we might start the season slower than we'd like putting pressure on the team from the start.

I am sure the club are trying. If we get a couple in in the next 2 weeks then what's the problem?

When the road gets dark

And you can no longer see

Just let my love throw a spark, baby

Have a little faith in me

When the tears you cry

Are all you can believe

Just give these loving arms a try, baby

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

When your secret heart

Cannot speak so *easily*

Come here darlin'

From a whisper start

To have a little faith in me

When your back's against the wall

Just turn around, you will see

I will catch ya, I will catch your fall

Just have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Have a little faith in me

Well, I've been loving you for such a long, long time baby

Expecting nothing in return

Just for you to have a little faith in me

You see time, time is our friend *for you and me*

Cause for us there is no end

All you gotta do is have a little faith in me

I said I will hold you up, I will hold you up

Your strength gives me enough

So have a little faith in me

Hey baby, oh, baby

All ya gotta do is have a little faith in me

All ya gotta do is have a little faith in me

A little faith in me

Yes Alpine, its a real shame we haven't signed the likes of Giles Coke, Scott Rendell, Jonny Brain and Craig Woodman. Get real, we will be spending money this summer, we aren't having to revert to frees and if we are they will be of much better quality than those.

I think you're wrong, Alpine is stupid or at least deluded.

hahaha, so you were happier in the days when we needed to sign 11 new players then?

come on, I've read your posts for years and you aren't that stupid. It's going to be quieter when we don't need so many players. League 1 clubs and many CCC will be in transition often because they're coming up, down, or have failed to go up. If they have players doing well, they don't stay long, so teams change often. We have money, so ours isn't changing, whereas in other circumstances for a league 1 side, Lallana, Davis, Fonte, Lambert, Barnard, Schneiderlin would be going, so we'd be signing lots of players, probably frees, loans and rubbish ones. Is that better?

Lots of players get released, so lots of CCC, League 1 and 2 clubs with little or no money snap them up. Can't you see it's a damn good thing we're not amongst them.

Now, in the name of sanity, rather than aimless criticising, point out the players on this list of L1 signings that YOU think we should have signed, because I'm not fussed about any of them.

We are being left behind...

Saints were probably ahead to start with. All the first XI needs is a right back and the team is settled. Compare the squad today with the squad on the opening day in August 2009 against Millwall.

Yes, cover is required for a few other positions but you really are fussing over nothing atm. No major player recruitment is really needed, that has already largely been done.

I can't understand why you would think the club is currently doing nothing as regard to transfers. Yes, it isn't being made public but that doesn't mean it isn't happening. I predict some players will sign before next Thursday (when the club flies out for the training camp).

I think 3 to 4 weeks is plenty of time to sort out the 4 or 5 transfers we probably need, actually.

Now it's down to 2 weeks: FC Thun on 13th and FC Sochaux on 17th. Unless, of course we don't want to give arun out to any of the first team at these fixtures. No panic, just a bit concerned that we don't have a decent RB, we could do cover for RL and, imo so more strength in midfield.

Sheff Wed have got in six players including one we may have been after

"but it was rumoured that a late bid from League One rivals Southampton had scuppered the deal. This has now proved to be unfounded as Teale has signed a two-year deal with the Owls."

Hmmm.. his agent talking up the deal?

yet more evidence that we are being active in th etransfer market perhaps. Singing nthe quality we need to win the league is not as easy as it looks especially if the wages we are offering are not over the top.

Why dont you just kick the cat instead of getting angry on here.

Alpine does appear to have a valid point but we will have to see how valid as time goes by as I expect some activity with regard to transfer is happening

Does he? He claims we're being left behind. I'd counter that the teams buying have got a long way to go just to catch up.

The point he is making is if we dont get in new players we may not perform well at the start of the season.

My point is I agree with that but fully expect new players in the near future of course we could both be wrong but only time will tell.

We've got a decent first team, it picks itself and no reason to think we can't start well, just need the extra signings for true strength in depth and a bit of variety, Jason won't be brilliant every game, and we need some pace to throw on

Alpine doesn't have a point. We are not losing ground.

Charlton have lost two of their best players in Bailey and Shelby.

Leyton Orient just lost their best player Tamika Mkandawire to Millwall.

Brentford have signed McCracken, but lost their best player...to us. Also Wojciech Szczesny, Kim Balstein and several other starting 11 loans ended.

Swindon have lost 29 goal Billy Paynter, not to mention their star youth team player.

Colchester have lost David Fox to Norwich.

Rochdale have lost their PFA team of the year (2 years running) left back Thomas Kennedy to Leicester and 20 goal Chris Dagnell to Scunny.

Carlise have lost Tom Aldred to Watford

That is losing ground.

I can't see any reason why we wouldn't perfom.

Davis, Ostemebor, Harding, Fonte, Jaidi, Puncheon, Lallana, Morgan, Hammond, Lambert and Barnard where immense towards the end of the season all we've lost from the XI is the right back who most people would have picked out as the weak link.

We will replace Ostemembor and we will bring in a few squad players and maybe even someone who will go straight into that starting eleven.

For once I'm looking forward to a season where we won't have to put up with any "gelling" at the start of the season - Pardew knows what he's doing.

Well, I guess we will find out in 5 short weeks, wont we ?

I do wonder what justifies your arrogance and complaicency. Remember this "super team" you claim we have was incapable of getting results at Wycombe, Colchester, Exeter, Brentford, Tranmere,...

I never said "Super Team", I just think that our team is ahead of many others in League 1. There are some spaces that need filling but it's not the total reworking we needed last year so I'm not panicking.

you've got a point there, but just because we have only signed the best left back available and no one else so far doesn't mean we won't strengthen before the window closes. The side is not good enough to win the league iMO, but Pardew's kneck is on the line so you can bet your bottom dollar he will beg steal and borrow the class, power and pace we need to keep him in a job and take us up. Don't worry yourself. Enjoy the excitement of a squad being assembled and then the title challenged for.

Let's hope so. I just have this little voice in my head telling me this is a Lowe's "irons in the fire" for the manager position moment, and we ended up promoting Steve Wrigley...

As in, a complete anti-climax..

jesus what a nightmare, but the signing of Dickson and the strong link with Calderon tells you the calibre of player we are looking at. Getting that quality without spending over the odds will take time. We have enough to make a decent start, or at worst keep in touch, and then we have until the end of August to gets those key loans that will make the difference. Pardew knows players are needed, he isn't sat on his thums, you can count on that.

As were many other teams in this league. Are you really gonna come back to your ridiculous point of "really good teams never lose a game"?

Well, it is certainly to be hoped this coming season that we will not often lose games against the teams at the bottom of the division. It would be typical Saints to lose against those teams whilst beating the teams at the top, but typical Saints were a club struggling to survive in the top flight occasionally giving the top clubs a bloody nose. The situation ought to be the same for us the other way around, that we are the top team, but that from time to time we get a surprise defeat from one of the relegation candidates. But if we have the calibre of players in the team that a wealthy owner with promotion ambitions allows us to afford, then if we have improved the team since last season we will at least turn those losses into draws, or the embarrassment will be more evident.

Those weaker teams got their results through tactical nous shown by their managers identifying weaknesses in our team and exploiting them. Until the situation is addressed by a new signing or two, we are weak at RB and we lack pace out wide.

I don't normally agree with many things Alpine posts but on this i think he raises a good point.

Last season we used the excuse that we didn't have time to bed the team together in the pre-season for our poor start.

Well our first pre-season friendly is on July 27th at Barnet. It would be reassuring to see some signings, let the team train together for a week before the first pre-season friendly. So not a lot of time left to get this sorted!

We are in Switzerland before that. Indeed last year we were told a thousand times that AP didn't have time to put a team together so this year you would have thought that additions to team would have been sorted well in advance. Evidently this is not the case - therefore no wonder there is some surprise that we are not ready with starting squad by now. What's left from last year will not suddenly be good enough this year.

Players will be injured suspended sick and lose form we need five or six other players and it would be a good idea to get them as early as possible that has not happened so the question is being asked why
