bungle Posted 1 July, 2010 Share Posted 1 July, 2010 (edited) That's right, it's the most exciting part of the season - the first day! The 1st Qualifying Round of the Europa league gets underway across Europe this evening, marking the beginning of the 2010/11 season. Excellent stuff. British and Irish interest in this round is as follows: Llanelli are at home to FK Tauras of Lithuania. Port Talbot Town travel to Finland to play TPS Turku Dundalk go to Luxembourg to take on CS Gravenmacher Portadown are at home to FK Skonto KR Reykjavik v Glentoran in the Icelandic capital. Best of luck to them all. Edited 1 July, 2010 by bungle
fish fingers Posted 1 July, 2010 Share Posted 1 July, 2010 The first day of the season was actually yesterday. Rudar Pljevlja got a well deserved 3-0 win away at Tre Fiori, hopefully the rest of the football season will be as entertaining.

Of course, an excellent point - although that game was brought forward. A well deserved away win, as you say. Hopefully the British and Irish teams will perform just as well. bungle Posted 2 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 2 July, 2010 (edited) Not a great night for the British & Irish teams. Dundalk got a 3-3 draw in Luxembourg, should be able to win at home. Glentoran were beaten 3-0 in Iceland and Port Talbot lost 3-1 in Finland, although they were 3 down after 35 minutes so not too bad considering. Portadown got a creditable 1-1 draw with Skonto Riga, and Llanelli could only manage a 2-2 draw with Tauras, but don't write them off in the away leg. chrisobee Posted 4 July, 2010 Share Posted 4 July, 2010 Didn't Pahars play for Skonto Riga? Yep, that is who we signed him from. He returned there for one season I think in 2007/8 ?

bungle Posted 8 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 8 July, 2010 First the bad news: Port Talbot were stuffed again and made an early exit. Glentoran got a home draw, and went out 5-2 on aggregate. Llanelli twice came from behind against Tauras in Lithuania, but conceded a goal in the 1st half of extra time when a man down to lose 3-2 on the night and crash out. Both sides had players sent off after the extra time goal. The good news: Dundalk scrapped past Gravenmacher, 2 early goals enough for a 2-1 win. Portadown got a 1-0 in Latvia to knock out Skonto Riga. Champions League qualifying next week, including Bohemians (IRE) v TNS (Wales)
