Cestrian Saint Posted 28 June, 2010 Share Posted 28 June, 2010 (edited) After the humiliation yesterday and all the talk about the English team being made up of a bunch of great individuals that can't perform as a team made me think, I wonder if England would be better off picking a team made up of players who do not play for the top 5 clubs. So for a bit of fun, who would be your starting 11? I guess it makes Robert Green the No.1 choice in goal. Then you'd probably be looking at Paul Robinson. Gerrard would be eligible, Lampard wouldn't, so that would solve the age old Gerrard & Lampard can't play together problem and allow Gerrard to play in his best position - centre midfield. James Milner wide right, but who else for the midfield? Scott Parker, Ashley Young, Glen Johnson at right back. Stephen Warnock at left back. Matthew Upson as one of the centre backs but who for the other? Jagielka? Then there's the million dollar question... Who do you play up front? Bent, Cole, Agbonlahor, Beattie??? Gorgiesaint Posted 28 June, 2010 Share Posted 28 June, 2010 (edited) Ok - try this one ------------------Hart--------------------- --Johnson--Jagielka--Cahill--Warnock-- -------------Parker---Rodwell------------ --Milner---------Osman--------Young--- ----------------Agbonlahor--------------- Players from the top 5 that I would consider bringing in: Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Hargreaves, Carrick, Gerrard, Wilshire, Walcott, Joe Cole & Rooney - would give the basis of a decent squad with the 11 selected above. Cestrian Saint Posted 28 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 28 June, 2010 Liking the look of that. Although would Agbonlahor be strong enough to play up front on his own, and is there enough fire power behind him as none of the three you've listed score many goals at club level. Dr Octopus Posted 1 July, 2010 Share Posted 1 July, 2010 Thought I'd share with you a text from a mate regarding Englands performance or lack of it in the world cup. Don't know how true it is but we will soon find out if it is. Just been sent this as to why England did so badly in the world cup leaked by some bloke from the paper Two major factors contributed to the shambles on safari. Firstly – One of the Sunday Tabloids will print a story this weekend that Wayne Rooney has been a naughty boy again. Apparently he got caught with a prostitute just before the world cup (picture evidence – the lot) and the paper agreed to postpone printing until after England crashed out of the world cup. It will go live this weekend. Wayne was aware of this situation throughout the world cup… Secondly – Steven Gerrard has got his wife’s sister pregnant. Steven has a gagging order on this story which expired today but its been renewed for another two weeks. John Terry knew about this and was furious that Gerrard was allowed to continue as captain despite his indiscretion and was the main cause of his rant. The England team were divided in two and Gerrard and Terry can not stand each other. Any truth in it?

I've heard the Gerrard rumour from a couple of people the past two days, it seems to be picking up momentum, and is so outragous it sounds as if it might actually have some truth to it. saint_bert Posted 1 July, 2010 Share Posted 1 July, 2010 Was browsing the Sun today, the rift between Gerrard-Terry was mentioned, but for football reasons. Holding back on the real reason?
