Takeover Looms Again

Wednesday 06 Aug 2008 15:49:54 by TUI Staff

Once again rumours that a takeover of Saints is imminent are rife. In truth the rumours are nothing new, its the same consortium headed by Southampton Barrister Jonathan Fulthorpe, and once again sources close to the club & consortium are saying the deal is on the verge of happening.

The stumbling block seems to be getting the funds into place, with the very nature of a consortium t means that nothing is easy, the cash is alledgedly coming from several different sources in several different countries and that being the case, there are various different rules and regulations regarding the deal that need to be overcome, it seems that after months of wrangling, everything could be about to come together.

Of course we have heard this all before, deadline after deadline has passed meaning that Rupert Lowe has had to set up a plan on the assumption that the whole thing isnt going to happen, of course now isnt the ideal time for the club to be taken over, especially on the eve of the season as it leaves no real room for manoevre.

If it was to happen in the next few weeks for instance, the new men are rumoured to be bringing in their own manager, alledgedly Alan Shearer, but if the transfer window has passed what can Shearer do for four months or so, I would contend that it would be foolish to change the manager at that point, that we might be better preceeding on with Poortvliet, albeit with the fact that he could bring in some quality loan signings.

What might delay the process however is the fact that Lowe himself is now away for a short time as witnessed by the fact that he was unable to attend the BBC Radio Solent Forum, its understood that Lowe himself wont be a stumbling block to this deal, but obviously as Chairman and controlling a large chunk of the shares, he does need to be heavily involved.

So there could be some nes on the takeover front in the next couple of days, however this is Southampton Football Club and nothing is ever simple, so it could drag on for a little longer yet.

any proposal for takeover would ruinwhat is happening to the club now. It is being cleansed, improved, streamlined and albeit with some hardships and struggles it will emerge a better club. Any big fix done quickly will undo all of the neccessary work. We will have investors tinkering and setting agendas and pulling the club in different directions. leave the club alone, let it go through this important time right now, the football looks like it might just bethe right brand we want and with time so with the rewards. No quick fix! I cant believe that my attitudes have changed but they have. We will be better for this current experience. If money was thrown at it we would all lose sight of what this club is all about...

The only things we would be likely to lose are Rupert Lowe and a lot of debt. Bit of a no brainer really.

So the rumours about bringing in shearer are untrue then?

Can I point those who think a takeover or investment at this time would not be a good idea, in the direction of Saintrich's thread?

http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=219

It's scary how other teams in this division have beefed up.

We "invested" close to £10m in 'footballing talent' last season....and look where that got us....

a takeover would wipe out the 20m or so debt

anyone that would't want that is crazy

Would it? Have you proof they are not just going to run up even more debt with the takeover? If these people are running all over the world to raise money its not going to be donations is it??

The consortium guys are putting out signals because they have been informed that a foreign buyer has been talking about us.

Everytime a buyer comes near these guys pop there heads up...

I hope its not Barclays that they have approached for a loan LOL.

It's time they put up or shut up to be honest. Also the stock exchange seems unmoved by all this, the share price hasn't moved. I remain firmly in the sceptical camp.

Hmm

And then a new rumour is just tossed up like a hand grenade very shortly after another alleged leak about Paul Allen.

What "new leak" re PA ?

I thought that had all been done, said and repeated many times before. What is there new to say,or what have I missed ?

Personally I have given up hope of a takeover, and will believe it if/when it happens.

If Dave Merrington is involved its got to be crap...................

why do you say that?

I will try not to get excited about another takeover.

Would it not be great if it really did happen Friday.

Followed by a win at Cardiff.

A couple of good quality players signed next week.

I shouldn't have posted anything. Its just that with the season a couple of days away the waiting got the better of me. public domain info so not really breaking any confidences. I wont post anything else on the subject... and its Diggers not Digger!!

Mr. Diggers, sir, you risk being labelled another teasing ITKer. IMHO, of course.

Your post implied that the club were somehow blocking the Fulthorpe takeover. I don't think you can call that public domain. It qualifies either as a genuine piece of new information, or a cryptic tease.

Which is why you've had to check that your head hasn't been bitten off every five mins.

And sorry about the digger mistake,

Romans

the more people who claim to be ITK and talk about it or post it on here the less likely it is to ever happen - or in other words even be true

for one thing if a bidder is serious they'll just get on with it - not waste time talking to people who's only claim to fame is being a saints fan

perhaps if these people were well placed city lawyers, chartered accountants or London bankers who were likely to be involved you could believe them - but then they'd be too professional to talk about it in the first place (or should be) - so if they do say anything there are probably pulling your leg anyway

why would any real bidder even talk to all these supposed ITK people anyway - we are talking about small local office workers, teachers, van drivers and factory workers for the most part here - what good would it do?

ignoring all that if some of stories I've heard in the past are to be believed it was the so called ITKs and their postings on messageboards and emails and phonecalls to potential bidders that scared them anyway

I've met too many Saints fans who claim to know this person or that person, this player or that - but when it came to getting a shirt signed - or a player to turn up for something or someone to actually prove something it was all just hot air

being briefed by someone with an agenda (Oldknow or Crouch anyone) for their own purposes just doesn't count!

so if its true give it up and just let it happen without your input (its not needed)

and if its not true just give it a rest this time

Fulthorpe has already made himself look stupid once - he doesn't need your help to do it again

and the Shearer rumour itself is enough to make any sane man think its nothing but another wind up

for the first time in a long time Saints seem to have a plan both on and off the pitch - and some idea about what we are actually trying to do as a club

unless someome serious is going to put £50 million + into the club as a starting point (and that's what it will take) its just moving deckchairs around on the titanic

and if they are they won't need anyone on heres help!

so lets just leave it alone shall we

Yes I agree a takeover without mega millions being involved would be of no real benefit

I cant believe this crap has reared its ugly head again.

We need investment, there is no doubt about that....but unless there is genuine millions being pumped into the club then another takeover will benefit nobody.

I am genuinely excited about this season. The new management team have accepted no crap from the seasoned pro's and have given youth a chance and the players that have featured so far WANT to play for the shirt.

As for Alan Shearer being lined up....well i'm sorry he may have contacts but that doesnt mean diddly squat.

There should be no changes now prior to Christmas IMHO
