Tamesaint Posted 27 September, 2008 Share Posted 27 September, 2008 So, Sundance, I reckon it's about 20 hours since your presumably inebriated (and I'm looking for charitable explanations) comments. Does it really take you that long to compose a dignified apology? What no apology yet??? Thats strange. He will probably be on his way to Donny now so you won't get one this morning.:-)
trousers Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 Sound familiar? Wise words or simply a geezer who's pretty handy on the piano (so to speak)....? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/watford/7646988.stm Elton fears for Watford's future Elton John maintains a financial interest at Vicarage Road Elton John has criticised Watford's board of directors for wanting to sell the club and warns they could be heading for "catastrophe". The former club chairman and director is concerned the Hornets have not re-invested money from Premier League parachute payments and player sales. He said: "We know from other clubs that when stability and confidence go there is danger of plummeting into freefall. "I fear we could be facing that catastrophe," he added. "The chairman and leading shareholders have made it clear they wish to sell the club and this comes after a profit of nearly £8m last year. "What has happened to the money from the sale of some of our best players and the parachute payments?" Watford sold Ashley Young and Marlon King for a combined fee of £12m but so far manager Aidy Boothroyd has not been able to spend the money. John bought the club in 1976 and then sold it in 1987 only to buy it back a decade later before stepping down again in 2002. The singer continued: "The manager and the players have my full support. "But it is clear that the playing staff has been left threadbare after the sale of leading players over the last year or so, and even now I understand that there are plans for further player sales in January. "Confidence must be brought back to the playing staff and a real sense that there is a future at the club. "If the directors do not have that optimism they should go." dubai_phil Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 Ah The Elton John gig at Dubai Creek.... just him, a piano, 14.999 people and a ****ed cow from Sheffield who wouldn't shut up, and, after I asked her kindly to shut up, her squeeze swung and missed and then discovered I was out with the lads from the local Dubai Dragons rugby team... guess who went for an unexpected swim in her "little black number" - great days those and the gig was good - but shame the sound system was crap. Meanwhile on the same theme, it's concert season here in the Emirates and just about every major star is lined up to appear on stage before Christmas, Kylie, Madge, Christina Aggy, Sting, Maroon 5, Queen and some bloke, but of course the biggest night will be Phil doing the Buggles at Karaoke on Friday - Yes Ramadan is ended, Eid is here and although we are back to normal on the beer front it does mean one thing.... All the Middle East investors and businessmen now have only 3 months to close out their annual plans and budgets. Having slept through the summer and Ramadan, commercial activity will begin to pick up speed very quickly. Will this mean that Fulthorpe's mysterious ME investor will now answer his phone? What wil be the true reaction to Abu Dhabi's takeover of Man City? Will the other Gulf States join the race to waste zillions on basket case PL teams when they could buy into a new vision with us. Don't hold your breath gang.... Only two days to Friday

Window Cleaner Posted 2 October, 2008 Share Posted 2 October, 2008 I may not have a clue how these things work, but do takeoverers get a medical team lined up before hand. Well who knows what they do, are the "takeoverers" therefore suggesting that our medical team is not up to scratch? I would suspect that the "takeoverers" are getting a bit jumpy because things are not going as planned (ie we're actually winning a few matches) and that they might not get the club for the knockdown price they can afford. So spread a bit of BS, even if it is incoherent and doesn't make any real sense.

Roman Posted 2 October, 2008 Share Posted 2 October, 2008 Forsooth, I can confirm that is true.....however....are you being polite in a corroborative fashion? :bear: Well, I'm in the US right now, witnessing first-hand the implosion of American capitalism. If Fulthorpe's 'consortium' really does consist of US, Canadian and German funders, I'd be pretty amazed, quite frankly, at the suggestion that the money, if it ever was, is sitting quietly in a bank account, just waiting for Lowe to sign off. It's hard enough to borrow money for an ice cream over here right now - let alone an English football club with all the 'basket-case' economics that go with it. I'd love to be wrong... And ITKs are hardly ever right. It's called 'Tommac's Law'.

In what is approaching the worst financial crisis since the original Wall Street crash, there are people out there with the belief that finance will be found for buying a CCC football club, riddled with debt. Europarts recently had finance denied on a motor factor with limited exposure, we have no chance in comparison. The financial situation is such that a club could easily sink without trace if the current climate does not improve. If the market rejects the bale out in the USA, everything is in doubt.
