I have not seen anything first hand but several of my reliable contacts say it is still live and they, Fulthorpe & co, are still positive.

Now the transfer window has closed I am of the opinion that all will go quiet whilst they work in the background drawing up a offer document (we know one has not been submitted yet as MW says no formal approach). What I do not know and none of my contacts can confirm, is whether the investment money is in place.

I do not expect to hear anything more on the subject. If it is going to happen it will before the next window. Otherwise it will have just faded away.

Thanks for the update Weston, however, it's your last sentance that bothers me most....i.e. "Otherwise it will have just faded away".

IFFulthorpe and Co have indeed been mounting a serious takeover/investment bid "in the background" (I use this phrase loosely as we all know they have been 'testing the water' in the public domain for some months now....) then, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, they (or a representative) should come on here and explain why they were unsuccessful.

I know it won't happen as there is no morallity left in this crap country of ours anymore but one can still cling onto a sliver of hope that Fulthorpe is from an old school of 'gentlemen' that feel duty bound to let ordinary people like you and I know what has happened over the last 6+ months.

Is Fulthorpe that honourable?

If the latest batch of football club owners are anything to go by, people with an interest to buy a club don't have any honourable intentions....

Nail.

Head.

Which leaves me to thank Mr Fulthorpe and his friends for nothing.

Great work if you can get it....

The thing is this Fulthorpe thing appear to be people trying to arrange something not the people with the cash, just middlemen and as such it will always be "still live" and they will always be positive - even if they are a million miles away from anything.

Hate to disillusion you, but the last thing old-school 'gentlemen' would feel duty bound to do would be to communicate with the common people - any more than any more newly moneyed types would feel obliged to talk to those less wealthy than themselves.

That said, there's one reason and one reason only why the whole Fulthorpe enterprise would fail - they couldn't get the money. It'll be nothing to do with anything else. If they can secure sufficient funding, they can make an offer which the existing major shareholders will accept; if they can't, they can't. That's about it really.

Who knows whether this is down to money or not. IMO all takeover talk should be banned. If it happens, it happens.

I disagree takeover talk should be encouraged.

Lets face it Tommac, HMR, ST D, LLS rumours generated a lot of interest and comment!

Well FWIW I think I have an answer

Rupert will come up with investment before Fulthorpe & Co..........

Which I believe is probably THE most damming comment I could come up with regards the "consortium"

Ah yes, the great big gizmo cranks into action on Wednesday morning...

I would hope there would be some sort of 12 hour warning buzzer so I can get ready and finish the washing and ironing that I usually do on Wednesday. Not sure the wife will let me change days regardless of my argument.

Should I cancel my holiday for next Saturday and get my money back then.

I would not not worry too much...they said similar things about the JET machine (Joint European Torus ) at Culham where I worked until 4 years ago, I was responsible for the up grade and they said it would go bang , but of course we are still here

Not much point really. If it goes bang you won't be able to spend the money anyway.

No but seriously though, some of the stories doing the rounds about what might happen when the LHC cranks up are laughable. The aliens who watch over us

turning up on Wednesday morning to save us from our own folly is my favourite.

Interestingly, I was posting about earlobes on the JP hair debate (how times change eh!)

When I received a junk SMS here in Dubai....

From TRICON who offer me a great deal on buying a house during Ramadan at only 1% a month

Which rang a bell, too good to be true offers, way back in them old days was it Tricon or Trican that were supposed to be buying us and saw the demise of saintlee and LLS?

Just when we all looked back then there were no such companies, and now here they are a property development crew....

Anyone remember? Should I dial the freephone number and ask for Barry?

Actually, hang on a minute, how did someone manage to buy shares today? Didn't the Stock Market Computers crash?

Couldn't do any worse than any of the tyre kickers we've had in the past. Is there a finance company that specialises in lending money to Banruptees to buy football clubs?

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac probably. They've lent trillions to people who can't possibly pay it back for houses, a few more millions for a football club would be a drop in the ocean.

And they've got billions again now that the US Gov't has bailed them out....

Where's Trousers when it all kicks off eh?
