I see Man City are getting barrow loads of Gulf cash then, when's ours due to turn up.We'll probably just get the wheelbarrow and no cash.

Patience friends. Keep filling up the SUV's and this lot down here will have more than enough to go round......

Hmm

Interesting concept. So what happens when EVERY English Football League club has had a multi-million pound investment....?

Do the takeoverers start looking for billionaires to buy the millionaires out?

If you all keep buying SUVs various governments will be able to provide free football for all with a guaranteed 30 man squad of planetary stars for everyone down to Hampshire League level, either that or the polar caps will melt and water polo will be the 'in" game.

Good article, as I was saying last week, something must give soon, but it will

be paupers like ourselves who go under and the rest wil carry on regardless.

If City hadn't been taken over they might have been in serious trouble, but with

a 50K seater stadium, millions of Mancunian morons to fill it for want of anything better to do,they'll always get cash on demand.

Spoke to Leon Crouch this evening at the Rose Bowl. He has no news.

Suggestion from one of my contacts say when Fulthorpe approached last Saturday he said there was going to be an announcement last Friday (yes he seema to have got the TSF and Saints Web bug) but there are 4 points that need clearing up including a planning regulation (did not know you needed that to build a team :) )

So nothing new there then!

planning regulation - Jacksons Farm or other sites near SMS?

Equally it could be checking that SMS has planning permission! Sometimes planning permisions are personal to the applicant, so new owning organisation cannot assume that it automatically transfers to them.

Sounds like it might be worth a sleuth-like trawl through the online planning records on the Southampton council 'gov.uk' website then......

I gather Merrington was telling people at the game on Saturday that it was still "happening".

Man City have shown if someone has the money to make a difference its easy for them to takeover a club - do we really want someone scraping around just to buy us? Sounds bit frying pan /fire

But Man City are in Europe, get 50 odd million from the Prem fund every year and have 40000 supporters who would go to Eastlands if their tyro league team

played in the shirt. Manchester is a football city, Southampton is not,not any more. There are no factories,no docks (to speak of) to provide the football mad morons who go to the ground come hell or high water.

Someone said it the other day, our support core suport is 15K, the rest just cherry pick games and go when we're playing well or if we have stars.Should have stayed at the Dell our spiritual home, not be playing at some landfill site

in the scrubs.

There is a massive difference between Man City and Saints. City are a far more attractive proposition, their fan base, Premiership status etc etc.

Of course there might not be any planning application yet, for example this appeared in the Echo (27 August) while you were on holiday re the Old TV Studio.

And that is "months away from a planning application"

John

I think there's a difference in the two scenarios. Oakdene probably have Outline Planning Permission (hard to believe they would have bought the site without) and are probably 'months away' from submitting a Detailed Planning Application because DPPs do take a long time to work up.

If there's to be some sort of 'planning' for SMS (by that, I presume we mean development of the surrounding area) an OPP application could be put in quite quickly.

They wouldn't necessarily have outline planning permission - in fact I'm fairly sure they haven't. What they would have is the City Plan which will have detailed the desired uses of the Meridian site and also for the area around SMS (and everywhere else in the city). While it's sometimes possible to get permission to build something not in the plan, to turn down a development that's in line with the plan would be grounds for a successful appeal.

This notion of a footballing city is often talked about over the years, but it is just percieved wisdom. So a city with rugby union, rugby league, basketball, ice hockey as well as a couple of football clubs is a footballing city and a city that only has a football club is not.

If you do the maths we probably get the same percentage of supporters as the Manchester Clubs do, it is a larger city so more supporters thats all.

I gather Merrington was telling people at the game on Saturday that it was still "happening".

Source?

Anyway, it's all very easy for Merrington to nonchalantly keep saying "it's still happening" as it has no tangibility or consequence. This is because something that is infinite can accurately be described as "still happening". I cite the creation of planet Earth as an example (although a bad example as the takeover has technically been going on for longer than evolution itself).

-----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mssrs Merrington and Fulthorpe,

Please re-arrange the following well know sentence:-

money your Put is mouth your where

Fondest regards,

Lord Trousers

Anyway, does 'diggers' have any news?

diggers has retired from sharing his knowledge since he got blasted by the grammar police. I also promised I'd refrain from posting on the subject. If however it becomes clear that the takeover is never going to happen I think it would then release me from my pledge and I would have carte blanche to "spill the beans".

Probably a sensible move.

I'm clinging to the hope that any potential buyers are waiting for Lowe and Wilde to finish the last throw of their dice before picking the club up for peanuts.

I think it's inevitable that we will face a Coventry type situation, we will have to be staring down the barrel of admin before Lowe/Wilde/Crouch sling their hooks for good.

If we wait that long there wont be a club left to sell

Now that, sir, is a typical politician's quote!

Promising everything but in reality delivering nothing. ;)

I find that the whole situation is laughable, we are not about to be taken over. The situation is that Fulthorpe et al have joined the previous groups of "Tyre Kickers". Its as though they want to make themselves into yet another group, derided by Saints supporters. If there were a grain of truth and agreement had been reached with the majority of shareholders for them to sell out, they could all have signed up to "an intent to purchase " document.

As each bunch of tyre kickers surfaces another bites the dust. We need to accept that there is currently no person or group with sufficient funds available to buy out the shareholders at a price they are prepared to sell at.

We then can get on with giving the team our support.

Think we should write a nice email to Amanda Stavely ( see is quite attractive which is always a bonus ) and see if she knows any other rich blokes that need to loose a fortune in football ;-)

Staveley with an 'ley' at the end?

Cheers.....whist we've had enough promises to 'spill the beans' on here over the last 18 months to open a new Heinz factory, I trust you to be the first to actually come up with said beans when the dust has settled on this latest 'approach'.

:)
