Saints Web Limited, Exposed

Recommended Posts

Hello, I stumbled across this site, and whilst I must say I was somewhat upset at having to pay a fiver to use a buggering forum, it's quite nicE .

This was your 1st post back on 14/6/10. Now you say......

I am slightly concerned about Steve Grants comments that he won't be changing anything and this is not a democracy.

When Saintsweb was launched, we were told the site was for us , I naturally assumed that the £5 = 1 share in SaintsWeb Ltd, much the same as the Saints Trust, infact that is the reason I have been so against the Trust as I saw the Saintsweb Club as a great platform for fan representation.

Is Saintsweb going the same way as SFC? Zero communication and contempt for fans? When I renew my Paypal subscription can I expect a booking fee?

Funny that.

I actually don't like the new forum either. I don't know what it's like for other posters but my text entry is literally 4 or 5* words behind every time I type - which frankly is pants. On the up side for you lot, though, all this means is that I probably wont post so much...! ;)

I also don't like the banner, or the new colour scheme either - so for me it's a backward step.

All of that said, if you look around the sight it is so much more than just a forum (*I was 15 words in front then...!), and offers podcasts, blogs a prediction league and tons more beside. No I hate the look of it, but I would actually probably be prepared to pay more to use it. Good VFM as far as I am concerned - thanks to the guys for giving up their time to 'make it so'.

Hey Micky,

have you tried changing your Message Editor Interface: in your 'General Settings' (http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/profile.php?do=editoptions) right near the bottom.

Other people have changed to the Standard or Enhanced editor and that has seemed to have made a difference!!

If we are talking total transparency Id be intertested to know where all the revenue goes? There must be about £10,000 coming into the company?

I also find it much slower and to type this post the text takes ages to appear in the reply box, its weird.

Go into your User Control Panel thingy ma jig and at the bottom somewhere you can change the type thiingy to YMFYMCAFG Or something. You will know when you see it. Change it to that from the standard one and your type will appear corectly and you will also be able to get smileys when you go advanced.

Is there a 'New Forum FAQ' or anything like that Steve?

This seems to be a recurring problem for people that is rather easy to solve.

Also could add in the BlackBerry browser thing for people who use those devices.

I think the biggest mistake the mods made was releasing the new look during the close season, meaning that all the moaning buggers on here haven't got any Saints news to get worked up about the look (which seems fine to me). I imagine new functions will become more evident during the season.

I appreciate that defence of the changes is slightly less valuable coming from someone who hasn't bothered to pay to use the site but its not cos I don't want to, its cos I don't trust paypal and don't have a chequebook.

Blimey, what a lame thread, I didn't even think the format had changed enough to bother commenting on it. However, the Blog aspect is frankly 67 kinds of awesome, so with that alone I'm really happy with the change. Shame no-one else bothers to use it !

Suspect that's mostly because there's not a great deal to talk about at the moment, I guess we'll have to wait to see how the season pans out to assess the success or otherwise of the blog section.

FWIW, I put together my first effort yesterday :smug:

No, and you can't pay by installments either.

This.

I'm with Hypo and DickyHale. 1976 Child is exactly that and one of the most odious posters on here. He's reacted hysterically and immaturely to middle of the road posts from myself and others which often he hasn't read properly to start with. Other posters can be OTT at times but at least they care about the club and most of them have some manners and can generally converse like a normal human being. It's posters/trolls like him that are putting people off of using this site which is a shame. I'd pay £5 if it stopped him and others like him posting on here again. Hopefully I don't ever have to sit/stand next to him at away games.

I'm sure most of the new improved things that Steve and Baj have brought on board will be totally wasted on the likes of me ... a complete techophobe .... who was in a comfortable place with the old format, and loathe to changes for change sake. But I guess for all those who access it thru iphones etc and into twittering (tweeting?), podcasts? and blogging? etc I'm sure this is a great step forward.

The proof in the pudding will be how well it holds up on a match day fred... will it run smoothly or go tits up at crucial times in a match when posting overload occurs leaving anybody without access to radios/commentary in the lurch.

Let's face it as long as you are able to type OSH you won't notice any difference as long as you wear sunglasses

As another technophobe  as well as a dinosaur:rolleyes: I share your sentiments about the new look of the site. But to moan about £5.00 as some members have amazes me. This must be the best value for such a great forum, especially as we get all the gossip and news before the local press seem to do so. Thanks to the guys who run it! Also to the many contributers who post on here, even those that need to be taken with a pinch of salt!

Agreed.

0.013p per day or $0.019 in my case, is bugger all to pay for the opportunity to read and comment about SFC, BS a little, and have some banter.

Some people always want something for nothing.

Yeah but that £5 is a pint and a half of fizzy lager that I can`t have each year!

I recently had a small problem with the 'New' layout. The Mods e-mailed me almost immediately and the 'problem' was resolved. Like others, my advice to DBP is this:- "If you don't like the product then don't use it and find another site that will accommodate your particular brand of dis- satisfaction!"

If you don't like it, don't renew your subscription. Nobody's holding a gun to your head.

The number of people having a moan about the new look are by far a minority (about 20 out of 3500 who have logged in in the last month), and even some of those have come around to the new look and the initial negative reaction was a "eek, something's changed, I don't like change" reaction.

Needless to say, I didn't spend the best part of 6 months of my (unpaid) spare time only to scrap it and go back to the old (and very much dated in design and functionality terms) format.

Steve, the only thing I really miss is the time of the last time I was on saints web. It helped to get straight back to the last posts read immediately without having to search.

Don't really know why I am saying this but :

Lost £3.00 due to a 2ft missed putt on the 18th !

Spent £11.46 in the bar (inc crisps!).

£2.00 Petrol - return journey !

£7.54 - estimated greenfee as part of my annual membership !

Total average Wednesday round of golf = £24.00

Whichever perspective you consider (assuming that you want to participate in the forum) surely there is great value at a fiver ??

Total annual fee on SWF - £5.00

I have no problem paying the fiver because I more than get my moneys worth. However, I think the main gripe is that you can get similar forums to this (including the old S4E) which was free or at least where donating was optional (I want golden balls again :( )

Can anyone explain the purpose of the little symbol that looks like a bit of paper. It starts off every message and uses up about 3-4 lines of text. Just to show a little symbol that looks like a bit of paper. maybe its to show that someone is posting a message. But i can figue that out. They just take up 10-20% of the screen.

For a little thing that looks like a bit pof paper.

Like the useless one at the top of this post. Why?

Not entirely sure why it's positioned where it is really, but you can change it for each post if you "go advanced" when you reply (like I've done for this post as an example) and select a different post icon.

I could probably get rid of it, to be honest, it doesn't serve much of a purpose IMO.

Good point, what's the bit of paper all about?
