1976_Child Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 We all pay our subscription to this forum to this company, registered at this address: SAINTSWEB LTD FLAT 3, 38 HOWARD ROAD SOUTHAMPTON HAMPSHIRE SO15 5BL Company No. 06471076 Date of Incorporation: 14/01/2008 I am not satisfied with the product that I have bought. I paid £5 to SAINTS WEB LTD for access to a website-forum that I was familiar with. Subsequently, the forum layout has changed; and I have received no correspondence from Saints Web Ltd that my user-experience would also change. Saints Web Ltd has taken my subscription for one product, and mid-way through the subscription they have changed to a wholly unsatisfactory product, and one which was most certainly not advertised. I await Saints Web Ltd's response, 1976_Child
Saint Fan CaM Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 I really don't know what the problem is. All the previous essential stuff is still here... Even the smilies.
JustMike Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 it still does the same job that you signed up for. dont like it, go else where.
offix Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Somewhat strange post, although I agree that the user experience has been negatively influenced by this change.
stevegrant Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 If you don't like it, don't renew your subscription. Nobody's holding a gun to your head. The number of people having a moan about the new look are by far a minority (about 20 out of 3500 who have logged in in the last month), and even some of those have come around to the new look and the initial negative reaction was a "eek, something's changed, I don't like change" reaction. Needless to say, I didn't spend the best part of 6 months of my (unpaid) spare time only to scrap it and go back to the old (and very much dated in design and functionality terms) format.
Red and White Army Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I don't like this new format at all either. Huge backward step.
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I want my money back too. I like the forum, I just don't like Baj

NickG Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 appreciate efforts, not too worried either way about the look but still often find it slow to react?
ponto1963 Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Preferred the old look as well, but I don't come here for the look, I come here for the info & the banter. Mind you still wish they'd go back to the old look & put Alan Ball on the banner as well.
miserableoldgit Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I think that the "child" bit might be relevent.
Saint_Jonny Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Please just **** off and do one 1976 child. No one cares if you like the site or not, couldnt you have just sent a pm? Stupid ****.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 The first time that I logged on after the change I had one of those 'steps back in shock' moments. I just kept looking around at it, asked for things I couldn't find (and was told). I adapted, as most of us have. Now, having thought about it, I think that generally the site is a lot better, it seems more open and navigation seems easier. It always helps, too, if criticism is constructive. Granty, Baj and the rest do this for fun, spelled F R E E.
Saint in Paradise Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I still find the pages somewhat "bright" BUT as has been pointed out the admins have spent a lot of time and trouble doing something that I wouldn't have a clue about doing. So tough luck on me then and tough luck on you lot because I shall still stay and re-new my sub.
Baj Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Firstly, sorry you don't like the new layout, as with everyones opinions, they are listened to and taken into consideration. I am not satisfied with the product that I have bought. Fair enough, do what everyone else including me does when subscribing to something you dont like, cancel I paid £5 to SAINTS WEB LTD for access to a website-forum that I was familiar with. Subsequently, the forum layout has changed; and I have received no correspondence from Saints Web Ltd that my user-experience would also change. Yes, we updated it to include new features to improve the functionality of the forum. If I paid for a subscription to something that didnt try to improve itself over time, quite frankly I'd feel cheated. Saints Web Ltd has taken my subscription for one product, and mid-way through the subscription they have changed to a wholly unsatisfactory product, and one which was most certainly not advertised. Firstly, "Midway", I can only assume you have taken out a 4 year subscription then, because we are fast approaching our 2nd anniversary of forum subscriptions... only we don't do 4 years subscriptions, so not entirely sure what "Midway" means. As for not advertising it, we've openly discussed the changes that would be happening for the past 4 months, including a notice that appeared at the top of every page a week before the change. I suggest you actually read this great forum you pay for. *sigh*
FMPR Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I thinks it fine, could do with a bit more blue to replace the red mind and probably a change in the banner too
trousers Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 The only 'negative' for me is that it's too bright on my aging eyes but have resorted to wearing sunglasses whilst perusing so now, not only is it back to it's glorious grey hey day, I actually look quite cool whilst using it. Win win
Joensuu Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Hurrah, finally got a page to load on my mobile. Not like the old site which loaded in seconds. Now that I'm here I wish I hadn't bothered waiting. Btw, has anyone noticed any improved features? I haven't seen any yet, but do find the slow page load, and lack of work safe colour option to be significant disadvatages. Sigh.
Saint in Paradise Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 So what exactly has been exposed? All of us old moaners
CB Saint Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Carry on improving things, guys - I appreciate the time that you must put into the site - well worth the money. I would ask if something can be done about the page load times - I find that frustrating - but on the whole a sterling effort
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 How about saying what EXACTLY you would like changed? As far as I can tell, all you don't like is what it looks like. To the average punter it's basically the same as it was, just "whiter". You wanna work in the IT field mate, when change is forced upon you every few days whether you like it or not. I reckon you must still be driving around in a Triumph Herald.
saint_stevo Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I don't really like the banner, but then i don't really like the kissing and cuddling after teh sex, but they come hand in hand (no pun intended)
buctootim Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Sorry to be negative, but I dont see the improvements. The main things you want from a board design is to be good to look at, easy to navigate and quick to respond. This one is worse on all three counts than the previous one - generic looking, slightly counter intuitive and slow. That said Im not going to get my underwear contorted over it.
SaintNeil90 Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 You have way too much time on your hands! If you dont like it, dont use it.
OldNick Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Is the opening post a mickey taking exercise aimed at people like SRS? Apeing the attacks on Cortese IMO. If not!!! Nobody likes change but I suspect if we went back to the old forum we'd be out of sorts wioth that one. IMO we have the best forum around and if you have ever tried to look around UI , it is terrible in comparison.
the saint in winchester Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Can I just say that I like the new layout? It seems an improvement to me, and I am normally 'resistant to change'. Good work, Steve and Baj.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I am a bit surprised at the complaints of slow-loading pages. I have not noticed any degradation in speed whatsoever. Yes, the overall design is more "in your face" than before and I can see it causing a problem at work but I am more than happy to put up with a very minor niggle for the sake of much better functionality.

There was a few issues for IE 8 users, which seem to have fixed themselves, which included slow pages and delay in text etc
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 There was a few issues for IE 8 users, which seem to have fixed themselves, which included slow pages and delay in text etc That'll be because I've been using Firefox then.
Big Bad Bob Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 That'll be because I've been using Firefox then. I generally use Chrome and I've had no problems with this forum at all. In fact the white background makes it easier for me to read. And the post spread across the pages which makes it easier to read on a mobile device.
Secret Site Agent Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 At least when we go to a link to someone elses web forum, it's doesn't look just like ours, except for a different colour. You know where you are now. A bit garish at the beginning I'll admit, but it'll grow on me. It's the content that I come here for, not the look of the web site. Rather like it was the dirty old birds the reason i went to Turpins, I wasn't bothered by the look of the place, or the ambiance.
thefunkygibbons Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 Maybe I go to too many other forums, but I cannot see what the fuss was about when it changed here
thesaint sfc Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 It's £5. Get a f*cking grip. I won't be re-newing as it is a bit cack nowadays.
Micky Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 I actually don't like the new forum either. I don't know what it's like for other posters but my text entry is literally 4 or 5* words behind every time I type - which frankly is pants. On the up side for you lot, though, all this means is that I probably wont post so much...! I also don't like the banner, or the new colour scheme either - so for me it's a backward step. All of that said, if you look around the sight it is so much more than just a forum (*I was 15 words in front then...!), and offers podcasts, blogs a prediction league and tons more beside. No I hate the look of it, but I would actually probably be prepared to pay more to use it. Good VFM as far as I am concerned - thanks to the guys for giving up their time to 'make it so'.

On the up side for you lot, though, all this means is that I probably wont post so much...! Hey Micky, have you tried changing your Message Editor Interface: in your 'General Settings' (http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/profile.php?do=editoptions) right near the bottom. Other people have changed to the Standard or Enhanced editor and that has seemed to have made a difference!!

Thanks Bob have just changed the editor to enhanced, am typing like the clappers and it appears to be keeping up with me...! For now, problem solved - thanks for your help mate - appreciate it.

Yes, the overall design is more "in your face" than before and I can see it causing a problem at work but I am more than happy to put up with a very minor niggle for the sake of much better functionality. I've definately experienced a significant increase in page load time via mobile. I guess mobile exagerates the time it takes for a page to load, making the difference more pronounced. Before the change a page would take say 20-30 seconds to render. Since the change it now takes about a full minute. I'm not sure if this is because I was previously able to browse in 'Work Safe' colours - and hense am now forced to download more images etc that I don't actually want to see? DSM, I'm not trying to cause any problems, but has anyone put up a list of the new features, as I'm struggling to see anything that has been improved by this change (despite trying to find them).
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 The only 'negative' for me is that it's too bright on my aging eyes but have resorted to wearing sunglasses whilst perusing so now, not only is it back to it's glorious grey hey day, I actually look quite cool whilst using it. dronskisaint Posted 28 June, 2010 Posted 28 June, 2010 It's fine, it changed, it's fantastic value....get over it -yawn:rolleyes:
