Thedelldays Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 a freak goal for them against england...a last min winner against algeria then out against a team that was playing half decent football great
Badger Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 If they did nothing else, their late winner against Algeria managed to bugger our prospects of an easier route to the semi-finals. And they did beat Algeria.
Colinjb Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 I'm glad they failed. No chance of any gung ho over the top celebrations now in a sport the majority of their populace doesn't even care about.
alpine_saint Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 They fought and fought, and went away with a lot of credit and a lot of people thinking US soccer is here to stay.
texas_saint Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 Finished ahead of England, so that's more than I expected.
Hamilton Saint Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 a freak goal for them against england...a last min winner against algeria then out against a team that was playing half decent football great Why so negative? They topped their group. They held England to a draw. They came back from a two-goal deficit to earn a draw against Slovenia. And they took Ghana to overtime in a last-sixteen game. Not bad. And as far as their temperament was concerned, they played fair and showed a never-say-die attitude. I didn't want to see them progress at Ghana's expense, but you have to admit they've done well.

Dark Munster Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 a freak goal for them against england...a last min winner against algeria then out against a team that was playing half decent football great What, no mention of their perfectly good goal disallowed against Slovenia?
Hamilton Saint Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 Woops! Wrong sport's term, but same concept. But as a confirmed pedant, I'll accept your pedantry.

once_bitterne Posted 26 June, 2010 Posted 26 June, 2010 I want to let you off because I've just heard Landon Donovan use the same term, but yeah, keep it football and not soccer Did he thank the Lord for helping shoot the PK? Oh well, back to the LA Dairy Crunch or whatever the f'k they're called. Maybe the Yanks should have added Freddie Adu to the squad. Lol.
OttawaSaint Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 That was a shame, USA were the best team in that game and got hit by a couple of sucker punches. Altidore has a bit of the Heskey's about him though, not sure how he missed one of his chances...
TijuanaTim Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 Get used to it mate, lot of pretty humorous spite mixed with masses of envy...just take it with a pinch of salt and a chuckle, they'll keep biting.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 States were hopeless once Altidore went off. Seemed to lack belief for the whole of extra time. Ghana's timewasting didn't help, and for that I hope they get stuffed in the next round.
Red Alert Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 The US maybe added a bit of something to the WC, cant even tell what that is really. As soon as they had to face a half decent side their championship defence was clearly out of its depth. Dempsey and Donovan are good players but everyone else was a bit useless. Think going out in the last 16 is about the USAs level tbh.
washsaint Posted 27 June, 2010 Posted 27 June, 2010 They added a damn site more than the useless, overweight, slow shower of s***e that is England. England are a disgrace and give up at the slightest adversity....at least the US gave it their absolute all.

Our Prima Donnas need a good old kick up the jacksie - to a man, we were friggin woeful from start to finish in this competition. Embarrassed to be an Englishman, and I have to visit Germany for two weeks next week - f u k i n great...!
