It's getting better and better. The Italy vs Slovakia game was awesome and the Uruguay vs South Korea a treat to watch, hoping the USA game this afternoon measures up to these and can't wait for Mexico vs Argentina and England vs Germany tomorrow...

It seems like the opposite of the last world cup. We had the group games full of goals and 3-2 games, but the last 16 and the rest of the knockouts were pretty drab games. - but on the basis of the last few ''knock out'' group games and the first game today, it's setting up to be much more exciting.

Feel sorry for South Korea, just felt they lacked a real proven goal scorer - and Uruguay have those in abundance. I remember watching Suraez take us apart at St Mary's, thought he looked a good player then!

and Kim Jong ll will admit to his country that they are out of the World Cup

As they actually showed the Portugal thrashing LIVE in North Korea (first time ever), they haven't got much to lose...

Have to say overall, having seen all but 2 matches (when on a stag do) and 2 matches when stuck in a work thing all afternoon, that this World Cup has been decidedly below average.

Very few moments of class, little spectacular stuff, defences on top for most matches, a load of dead rubbers at the end of the groups too.

Can't think of 5 players who've stood out yet.

Football has been quite good. And less cynical play this time (so far).

But the vuvuzela white noise is a major annoyance. And the commentary of John Helm is very irritating, with non-stop blather full of hypothetical comments, endless repetitions, irrelevant statistics, and constant stating of the obvious.

overall..it has been average...not just the quality of football, also the atmosphere etc

I have never seen so many genuine world class players/teams, sky their shots

It pains me to agree with you but yes, average so far but it is improving slowly.

So far, rubbish.

I have never seen so many overhit passes. If a player allows a long ball to bounce it flies over his head. Effective corners or crosses into the box? few and far between. 25-30 yard free kicks? probaly 60% sailing 20 yards over the bar into row Z.

Sorry, these are the best footballers in the world, when they play neat 3 yard one touch passes they look fine, after that, one in 5 long cross field passes pings away into touch.

It makes the games sterile with teams playing tippy tappy and players appearing to be shot by snipers at the first breath of air from a closing player.

This is not how the World's greatest sporting event should be. Credit to the players for at leasting putting on some sort of show and making some of the matches exciting.

But you think watching Switzerland play negative football makes this a great World Cup? Meh

Pretty poor show really. Too much wayward shooting, too much safety first football, too much trumpet noise and a seriously rubbish ball. Topped off by too much diving and timewasting, too many referees falling for the theatrics and half empty stadiums. South Africa was the wrong choice and Adidas/FIFA need their arses kicking over the ball fiasco.

There's certainly something missing. Whether it's the ball, the weather, the organization I don't know.

I'll tell you what's missing England-US-Azzuri-Le Bleu and pretty soon El Tri. Otherwise a great spectacle...
