stevegrant Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 As per the subject, really. Saints' first game of the season, at home to Plymouth Argyle, has been selected for live TV coverage by Sky Sports.
Whitey Grandad Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Does that mean we could be top of the table before anybody else?
Appy Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Does that mean we could be top of the table before anybody else? We can. Or we could be the first team to be bottom of the league.
beatlesaint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Not with our usual slow start and the Sky jinx, no :-)
Icey Saint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 hmmm i wonder if i can get sky in Africa ...... going to miss the game as i'm at a wedding lets hope so
Michelle Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Thank feck I've got the day off. Oh well, pub at 10:00 then!
bungle Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Thank feck I've got the day off. Oh well, pub at 10:00 then! Pub opens at 9. HTH.
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Opening day attendance has just dropped to around 17,000 then ( if Plymouth bring 3,000 )
100%Red&White Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 From a selfish point of view, fandabadosi, as I'll be sat in some Turkish bar drinking cheap Turkish lager now watching events unfold at home. Last year they came to the rescue in Bulgaria for the Millwall game. Good on Sky. I would however have a completely different opinion if I was back in Southampton. F***ing Sky wan..................
sandwichsaint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Sky 1 NC O c16,358 A low-key start to our promotion season.
ericofarabia Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Cripes .... 1st day of the season blues AND Sky Hoodoo to overcome at the same time. Not good omens for a flying start to the season then.
Matthew Le God Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 (edited) Sky 1 NC O c16,358 A low-key start to our promotion season. Millwall at St Mary's on the opening day last season, a Sky live game at 12:45pm, 20,103 people turned up and that was a campaign where Saints weren't favourites to win the League. If anything the attendance will be higher than the Millwall game as expectations of promotion are much higher this season. Also you forget Sky are paying the club to show the game. Thedelldays Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Sky 1 NC O c16,358 A low-key start to our promotion season. so, if it is any more than that...NC wins...right..?
Saints foreva Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Looks like we will be starting with a defeat. We never win League matches on tele, we never beat teams with new managers and we never win on the opening day. Suspect the gate will be reduced by 3,000 now. **** off Sky.

toofarnorth Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Holiday in Bavaria so sounds good to me. Then i'll be back in time to see us beat Bournemouth midweek.

Thedelldays Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 im in two minds in who to support..I think I will wait and see who wins
Iowsaintsfan Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Oh great its hard enough to get off the Island the Saturday after Cowes week as it is let alone to be across for a lunch time kick off!
once_bitterne Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Sky 1 NC O c16,358 A low-key start to our promotion season. I don't beleive clubs have to accept their game being choose. For. ? In which case Cortese must be happy with the money Sky are paying SFC.
stevegrant Posted 25 June, 2010 Author Posted 25 June, 2010 I don't beleive clubs have to accept their game being choose. For. ? In which case Cortese must be happy with the money Sky are paying SFC. Correct. In the Premier League, it's a contractual obligation, but it's entirely optional in the Football League. However, any club rejecting the "opportunity" to be shown live on Sky runs the risk of simply not being picked again.
Matthew Le God Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Suspect the gate will be reduced by 3,000 now. **** off Sky. Over 20k were at St Mary's for opening game last season, which was also a lunch time kick off Live on Sky. This season Saints are promotion favourites which should help boost crowds.
West End Saint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Thank fuff for that I dont get back from holiday until the 11th was gutted I was missing a home game get in. Now all I need is the Bournemouth game to be on telly and I am sorted. UTS
charliegeorgesflymo Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Great - again will be in Greece so will get to see it
John B Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 tossers, why ruin the opening day again. We used to be a crap team that lost lots of games including those on Sky. Now we are a good team so we will win lots of games including those on Sky
hasper57saint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Saints will crucify them, and on TV. I'll be there and so will 20.000 others. What's with all this negativity eh?

This season Saints are promotion favourites which should help boost crowds. With administration it was no suprise to see a big attendance that game. This season we will have less season ticket holders.
stevegrant Posted 25 June, 2010 Author Posted 25 June, 2010 We used to be a crap team that lost lots of games including those on Sky. Now we are a good team so we will win lots of games including those on Sky I suspect that's not the point being made. The lack of pre-match drinking time is a bit annoying, IMO.
so22saint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 stag weekend in London so this is a result for me
100%Red&White Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Thank fuff for that I dont get back from holiday until the 11th was gutted I was missing a home game get in. Now all I need is the Bournemouth game to be on telly and I am sorted. UTS And if Sky could just stretch themselves for the away game at MK Dons too I wouldn't have missed a match before getting back for Orient home. Wahey.
Pilchards Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 For god sake, thanks Sky as I will miss the match now as I have a dentist appointment at 12-45.
SuperSAINT Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 For god sake, thanks Sky as I will miss the match now as I have a dentist appointment at 12-45. Cancel it, Pilch.
Appy Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Just thinking about it, was it burnley away in 07/08 that we last won an league game on sky?
Pilchards Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Cancel it, Pilch. Ask Cortese to cancel the match? Nice idea.....
sotonjoe Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 That'll give all those plastic fans citing the lack of installment plan as a reason for giving up their season tickets an excuse not go to the first game then.
70's Mike Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 attendance down by 1 unless son can get day off, as we does not finish work until 12.
AlfredKo Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 When was the last time we won a league game on sky? Away against Burnley a few seasons ago.
suewhistle Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Millwall at St Mary's on the opening day last season, a Sky live game at 12:45pm, 20,103 people turned up and that was a campaign where Saints weren't favourites to win the League. But Sky are allowing half an hour less time for the anaesthetic to work.... I should be there, though. Last year I appreciated a sunny pint (or 3?) at The Platform Tavern. Just hope the weather is as good this year.
dronskisaint Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 I don't give a sh*t about old hoodoos.....last season was about shedding ghosts & building foundations - this one is the take off proper to our new era climb up the leagues. I'll be there...expect 25k+:D
dune Posted 25 June, 2010 Posted 25 June, 2010 Last year I appreciated a sunny pint (or 3?) at The Platform Tavern. What's wrong with having two half pints?
