I know there is another thread on Bart but I thought I would start another more spefic one about the Goalkeeping Situation at St Mary's

So why would Bart want to comeback if there was little chance of First Team Action

Is he likely to get more games this season or will Davis continue to be number 1

I thought Bart played well last season when he played

As I intimated on the other thread, Bart will want to stay to ride on the coat-tails of Davis and Saints in general. If he needs to deputise for Davis in the CCC and he does well, his stock will rise significantly. This is a good club to be with at the moment and he has some years ahead of him to be no.1 (here or anywhere else for that matter). I think Davis could well see us into the Prem and then may well take up a coaching role. I do not think Bart is good enough for the Prem at this time anyway, so by that time he might have been sold for a tidy sum.

I think that Davis will start the season as number 1, Bart will get games in the League Cup & JPT and if Davis gets injured then I would be surprised if Bart does not usurp him and take the number 1 spot permanently.

That said, I still think we should be trying to get someone like Kasper Schmeichel as he's available (admittadly will probably go to team in a higher division) as he would be a very good long term bet that would stay with us all the way to the PL.

Bart will replace Davis if Davis gets injured or has 4 or 5 bad games.

I doubt a couple of cup games with Bart playing well would encourage AP to replace Davis without the above happening.

Already gone to Leeds United. Signed deal on 27th May. Will join on 1st July.

Pleased to hear Bart will sign on again. He's done well and I'd be happy to see him get more games.

+1 Fully agree. Its the fact that many people were disappointed to see Kelvin go back in goal when he returned from injury because Bart did a very good job.

That how I see it to.

Agree. It's a blessing that we have, potentially, the best TWO goalkeepers in League One. Bart can only learn from Davis, and when Davis is ready to hang up his gloves, or loses form, Bart will be ready to make the number one shirt his own.

the question maybe how long do we give KD. bart needs games under his belt and soon, . Say we get 2 more seasons of good quality keeping from KD we should have had our stabilizing season in the championship and be ready to push for the premiership. i wouldnt say bart is ready for that position yet, let alone the premiership so there has to come a time when you either stand up and say bart is going to be the saints #1 for the future or you get someone else in who both replaces kelvin and bart in the team.

If bart is to be the #1 then he has to play a number of games in league 1 to get him ready for what is to come, cherry pick some home games in the league as well as the cups in my opinion.

Bart needs to improve his kicking dramatically if he is ever going to play consistently at a decent level. If he can do that he could be an excellent keeper. At the moment Davis is a much better all-round option.

KD will be our first choice goalie until we promote into the Premiership; so that's two more seasons! :)

Possibly, although I would not be surprised if we sign a younger keeper - with potential to play in the Premiership - once we are promoted to the CCC.That way we will have part of our Prem team in place immediately.

So why is Bart here then?

Perhaps because we have not reached the "decent level" yet ?

Well he is not going to get much better with no reserve fixtures and sitting on the bench

... as a good stand in should. I still haven't seen anything to justify the adulation that some seem pour upon him. For me KD is no 1 and Bart is a damn good back up.

You've probably read the same rumours as me - that West Ham are going to sell Rob Green (30k a week) and (TRY TO) bring in Kelvin Davis (10k a week).

We'll have to see if that comes to pass, and if KD would be attracted.

But conspiracy theorists would likely suggest this is why Bart is prepared to sign on again, when (if the above is not true) he would be spending most of the season on the bench.

His goals conceded were no better than KD's average and he did look unsure at times.

KD is still under35 - an pretty average age for good keepers.

If he keeps up good form AND injury-free.....at least 2-3 seasons more.
