EFM Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 What a futile and pointless thread? Every bloody fan of SFC wants us to win every week - it's quite simple really NickH. Or maybe you are quite simple? We are all Southampton fans (except for one or two skates who are allowed) and when on the odd occasion we do we win are ALL bloody delighted. That's twice now if you can keep count. You in the mean time tell us how great we are day in day out regardless of any visual or statistical evidence to the contrary. This apparently makes you a greater fan than the unconvinced. And when on those rare days we do win you think it means you were always right, enjoy it more than the rest of us and are the top fan ever. F'ing marvellous result today, I'm ecstatic. It doesn't mean losing to Rotherham and being 19th in the CC makes us world beaters but it does mean we're all happy tonight - except YOU! Thanks Thats what realists do, I keep saying that one win does not mean security, does not mean our troubles are over, does not mean that we have a good coach does not mean that we have the players in the team to survive. Of course ANY win is great, but must be tempered with reality. Just look at the number of contributors on here who did not expect the win, now that should tell you that all is far from well. Just because we have a more realistic view of the team etc, does not mean that we cannot enjoy a win, no matter how infrequent they are

gjphilsaint Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 its true some posters flow between ecstacy and deep depression but then thats the life of a saints fan. Compare posts after Derby and then Blackpool for instance. But for me the reality is that we will be very near the bottom this season, unless the youngsters bulk up and grow up and as we all know that will take time. meanwhile we will continue to meet teams like Blackpool, traditional big blokes that muscle you out, and slicker "teams" like Sheff U, Wolves, Reading, to name but a few. When compared to them we look literally "out of their league" ... a ominous phrase to say the least. Then we play the "lighter weight" teams Barnsley, Donny, Forest, and we hope we can win but our limitations (pretty football, lack of bite, inexperience, lack of depth ) are always there to haunt or hold us back.. Well that my opinion and we either need to grow up fast or ship in some experience (the sort that doesnt get injured for large parts of the season.. or cant play 2 games in one week). IMO. suewhistle Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 Got back from the UK on Tuesday but yesterday was the first day back on this board as I really can't face the negativity and in-fighting as epitomised on this thread. I saw two games on my visit to the UK - both the draws at SMS. My previous visit at Christmas I saw two losses and from that perspective we are now showing so much more effort and not a little skill at times. We lack experience, Surman is no full-back and we need someone who can score. In the formation we had against Barnsley SJ gave the ball away a lot so how we integrate him into the team I don't know. It's a worrying time for us but I think that with a young team you can expect improvement whereas with past-it old pros you sometimes get them just going through the motions. Having said that I'm sure Thomas, Euell and Skacel have a contribution to make but people seem to ignore the fact that they are injured/unfit (and possibly unmotivated.. Skacel anyone?). I even feel that JP is not given credit where it is due: you can't criticise him for having a crap boss, and what he says in the press seems sensible, and he's not afraid of judicious criticism of the players either. A scrappy win will help morale, but a thousand or two more on the gate would help too. It was so sad seeing only 15000 on my visits to SMS. I'm sure many of you have good reasons not to go, but I just wish you didn't use Lowilde as your excuse. I dislike them and Askham and have voted my shares against them but I don't let this spill over into some of the more depressing negativity that comes out here. sadoldgit Posted 28 September, 2008 Share Posted 28 September, 2008 Just the other day the wrist slitters were telling us that the club was finished and that we were going down. They were also telling us that if Pearson had stayed (3 wins in 13 competitive matches - win currently have 4 in less) things would be better. Beating Doncaster hardly makes us world beaters, but I can remember seasons when we couldn't buy an away win, and we are only 4 points off the play off places. The same people who would have us believe that Lowe is the devil and is taking us to hell pointed at Crystal Palace as where we should be....hmmmm. Next time we lose they will be back again revelling in our demise, just a shame they can't keep their negativity for the day we actually do fall apart rather than the games when we fail to emulate Manchester United. We are a CCC club trying to make ends meet and relying on a lot of youngsters who, it is hoped, with the experience they gain this year will make us a better team next year and the year after that. There will always be fans with no pateince who expect eveything over night, trouble is they are pulling us down and depressing the hell out of us. I suggest they all go off with Alpine and watch cheap and cheerfful football in Austria. The reality for Saints fans for the immediate future is not pretty, but it is what suporting a football team is all about. You stick with them through thick and thin. Enjoy the good times and keep supporting your teams when times are not so good.

EFM, Its ironic you call people simple when you cannot see that I was pointing out that when we win the board is quiet as a grave.None of the negative posters coming on and debating a victory. No they disappear and wait for a defeat so they can fill the site with depressing and negative threads of doom and disaster. Why because we won did the board not fill up with happy but on the cautious side posts. No it cant be done as it is so blo### hard to do so to add some praise. I wasnt expecting fans going all overboard but an hour or so after the game there were perhaps 3-5 on here talking about a good result.Compare that to the Rotherham or Blackpool games and it was bedlum. so your bitter attack was unjustified and no Im not a better fan as there were 958 a lot better than me who went up north to the game. They are the great fans. Your comments of me saying Im right because we won come from where? of course there isnt a quote you can find because thats not what I do, I stay even handed win lose or draw. So before you get all offended perhaps you'd sit back and think before you make your unfounded attacks and get off your high horse and see that the thread was apt and true. Many fans on here I have had differing opinions and however they act I take it as a passion as I have about my views and dont take it to heart as they are Saints fans.
