SuperMikey Posted 22 June, 2010 Share Posted 22 June, 2010 I don't know why, but I never really got into The Beatles. I like most of their songs, but I don't really see them in the same light that everyone else does. Completely recognise and respect the changes they brought to popular music, but just not really my cup of tea.

RonManager Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 /\ That'll be a sentence then. I have a number of Beatles albums released on Capitol which I bought when living in Singapore as a sprog. Different tracklists and cover designs to the Parlaphone issues etc etc.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 You've done it now, The best Beatles clip, it's like the best Matt Le Tiss goal, where do you start? For me this is great. Even at the fag end of their career, and despite all the arguements and splits, they were still as Paul called them a "great little band". This is one of my fav songs, written at a time when L&M were writting together and redone for the Let it Be album.
hamster Posted 23 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 23 June, 2010 /\ I have a number of Beatles albums released on Capitol which I bought when living in Singapore as a sprog. The jewel in the bellybutton of my collection has to be a copy of their first ever release, made in Hamburg (with Tony Sheridan) and a double A side. Side 1 - My Bonnie (yep, that My Bonnie) Side 2 - Oh, When The Saints (yep, THAT Oh, When The Saints). In 'used' condition and I don'e even own a record player! Might let it go one day as it's been in a box under the stairs for the past 3 + years. Another great rendition that I never tire of hearing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA9maAERDAs&feature=related John would always leave this one til the end of the set as it really tested his vocal chords, he gives it a truly unique edginess that none come near. It's also one of those records that when at a crappy party/wedding reception comes on and makes me want to throw a few shapes on the dance-floor. I only get up if I have had sufficient ale to not be in a fit state to walk let alone get in on.

hamster Posted 23 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 23 June, 2010 Is that a bona-fide offer beatlesaint? i also have a Chad Valley musical teddy which plays 'Hey Jude'. Had an enquiry by PM a while ago but I may donate it to the Beatles Museum and get my name imortalised into the deal. The only other one I ever actually saw with my own eyes was also owned by me, it was missing his tongue. When we (hopes) move I will have no option but to either put all my crap in storage or sell up. I'd love to give the teddy to one of the grandkids but I would be mortified if it ever got eaten by their dog or worse...cuddled. btw, where best to sell Beatles stuff anyone? I let an almost full set of Beatles Gum cards go for a measly £20 a while back and my original reel-to-rell of Rubber Soul made me a paltry £15! (still have the bruises from kicking myslef). Hamilton Saint Posted 26 June, 2010 Share Posted 26 June, 2010 (edited) In addition to all the vinyl LPs on Parlophone and Apple, I have two or three dozen Beatles and solo-Beatles vinyl singles (45 rpm), with original picture sleeves, on Apple. Some of them must be worth a few bob. I also have the entire audition the Beatles did for Decca Records on January 1st, 1962 on a set of singles. There are twelve songs on 6 vinyl 45 rpm singles - different colours too! (green, red purple, yellow, etc.). Must be bootleg releases. I wonder what they're worth now? BTW, the chief A&R man for Decca at the time, **** Rowe, turned The Beatles down after their audition with the classic comment: "Groups of guitars are on the way out". How wrong could he be, given what would emerge in the next few years. I don't think I would sell any items from my extensive Bealtes collection (vinyl, CDs, DVDs, magazines and books). I'm a collector, not a seller! P.S. I wasn't intending to use a swear-word there, but the short form of Richard, is shown as ****. Not every Richard is a ****! Badger Posted 26 June, 2010 Share Posted 26 June, 2010 Grew up with the early Beatles music, She Loves You,Help etc and despite it perhaps now seeming 'naff' to younger people it is difficult not to listen to those tracks without being moved by the sound. It is difficult to convey - to the young Badger for example - just how that music was so inspiring when first released and how the music scene changed because of The Beatles. I also like some of the early lp tracks, I saw her standing there, Twist and Shout etc.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 26 June, 2010 Share Posted 26 June, 2010 The difference between The Beatles and every other group is the sheer quality of everything they did. They are not my favourite band, but there must be a 100 songs of theirs that I would sit and listen to over and over again. Look at the quality of their B sides Like Rain, Dont Let Me down, Come together, You cant do that, She's a women, Revolution. Classic songs weren't even singles at the time Yesterday, Back in the USSR, Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds,Eight Days a week,Day in the life, Here comes the sun, All my loving, while my guiter. Then there's the throw away stuff, even that is great When I'm 64,Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. There's also some real gems tucked away and never really mentioned like I'm only sleeping,Yer Blues, Two of us, Oh Darling. I think The Who had one or two better songs, The Stones did some great stuff, I love Steely Dan and my personal favourite is The Band, but none of those people ever got anywhere near the amount of quality that The Beatles produced.90% of what they produced was top quality and no one has got anywhere near that sort of ratio. I was lucky enough to see Paul twice, once in The Gaumont about 79 and once in Joe Robbie Stadium FLA in the early 90's, both times he was fantastic and I would urge anyone with a chance to go and see the guy.He can be a bit of a knob at times, but he knows how to put on a memorable show. No, its not an offer ! If you want to sell you could try Tracks - http://tracks.co.uk/ they buy and sell. Even if they offer you a bad deal its quite good to see how much stuff is selling for. Went to see Macca in Cardiff last night. The guy is getting better and better as he gets older. I have seen him about a dozen times since 1990 and last night and the O2 gig in December were the best two shows I have ever seen - incredible

For anyone who doubts his pure musical ability, he plays every single instrument including drums on this track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cm2YyVZBL8U Just can not believe it's now 40 years old.
