dubai_phil Posted 22 June, 2010 Share Posted 22 June, 2010 Al Jazeera are doing a decent job, now they have solved the hacker problem. So far in the Studio we have had Terry Venables, Craig Brown (lol at Scots) Gus Poyet (very good and funneh) Big Sam Allardyce, Ray Wilkins, Mark (nobody else will get a word in) Hately, Trevor Francis. probably a couple more I'll remember tomorrow when I recover from an evening singing on the home karaoke to celebrat Les Frogs getting their butts kicked - (economy class all the way home tonight lol) Elsewhere in the world who have you got? Oh and BTW Hateley & Wilkins have been having WAY too much sun - Wilkins looks like a Solatren Warrior from Dr Who & Hateley just needs a Matt Gloss he is Soooooo shiny
Pugwash Posted 22 June, 2010 Share Posted 22 June, 2010 I suppose 'Butch' been lavish in his praise for our strolling square-passing football?
LVSaint Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 ESPN have done good this year with their pundit and commentary pool. Pluses - Gullit, Roberto Martinez, Klinsman, (Adrian Healey, Ian Darke, Ally McCoist, Martin Tyler, Efan Ekoku in the commentary box) and no sign of cheeky Tommy Smyth!! Negatives - Alexi Lalas (smug turd), Steve McManamanamanaman (just plain ****e) And Fox Soccer Channel have Andy Gray and Richard Keys for a refreshing change and familiar faces. skintsaint Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 got to be kidding..was watching Englands game versue Algeria and McCoist couldnt wait to start slagging off the English and praising the Rangers centre back every two minutes. Terrible. Lalas and McMananananannaman I agree on though...
hutch Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 An interesting (for us) take on the usual suspects in the DSTV Supersport studio from the FL blog here: http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/WorldCupBlog/0,,10794~2070130,00.html
Psycrow Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 Good old RTE are doing a great job. The usual John Giles and Eamonn Dunphy who are not the sycophantic commentators that you get on Sky Sports but can sometimes just be negative for the sake of it, are joined by the awful Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton who are trying to be negative in the same way as they know its popular, but don't have any football knowledge behind their negativity. Graeme Souness has also been on, but last night was his last match for some reason. Best pundit in UK/Ireland for my money. He gets regular gigs more than Whelan and Houghton on Prem coverage too. They've also had Dietmar Hamann and Ozzie Ardiles for the Germany and Argentina games respectively. Hamann isn't great, but I like Ozzie.
knellster Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 I was in Canada at the weekend where they had John Collins and Jason de Vos. They were ok to be fair, but they had to share the studio with a presenter who seemed more interested in the poll to decide on the best ever goal celebration rather than the current game. As an aside, it was fun having to explain to the Canadians where Algeria and Slovenia are 'cos most of them had never even heard of the places. shurlock Posted 23 June, 2010 Share Posted 23 June, 2010 In Baltimore/DC for a couple of weeks but its odd watching ESPN and thinking games are more 'authentically' English with the SKY heavy-hitters of Tyler and Darke.
dubai_phil Posted 24 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 June, 2010 Looks like Peter Reid has been replaced by Ian Dowie down here. Reidy was on for a few days but seems to have vanished again. (probably finding the Chateau Musar hard to come across in Doha). I have no idea who the two presenters are, will have to do some digging, had thought they were refugees from Sky but future son in law doesn't recognise them. One nice thing is that we get a Commentator. (Gary Bloom is the only name I recall at the moment as he spends all match talking about consequences rather than the action) and we DON'T get a summariser which is actually really cool. Long time since I've just been able to listen to commentary instead of some has been's opinions during the game. Much better idea, leave opinions in the studio! dubai_phil Posted 24 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 June, 2010 Ah ha Our Breakfast show is Hayley McQueen with Scott Minto, the studio is Angus Scott & Rhodri Williams (WHO?) Al Jazeera fired some female presenters for wearing low necklines on their news channel and the poor lass Hayley turned up in a short skirt yesterday and must have panicked when she had no desk to sit behind - spent the whole show with her knees cemented together and her right hand trying to hold her hem line over her knees - lol Oh and we seem to have Graham Poll available at the drop of a hat as well. The "News from the World Cup" section is presented by some really really fit smiley chick (no I CAN'T do a Rule 1 screen capture from TV yet!) and we already know in our own minds what (who) she had to do to get the job). Looks like she'll have a long career ahead of her dating celebs

Always talks sense and very articulate... makes me wonder why he couldn't transfer his obvious knowledge to management with more success... svetigpung Posted 7 July, 2010 Share Posted 7 July, 2010 http://www.supersport.com/feature.aspx?Id=46 YEP I did enjoy listening to Mr.Terry Paine on Supersport every evening in SA. Not lost any of his good ol' ampshire accent. Didn't realise he was in the 66 squad.
