saint_bert Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 After watching many of the so called lower nations humble some of the giants of world football I got's to thinking. If say we go out on Wednsday, after the dust has settled and Capello leaves (which he would imo) would people be against a new man coming in and saying, I am going to ignore the underachieving players of the last few years and look at hungery, young maybe even lower league players? In my heart of hearts I know I would rather go and see a team that may lack in so called ability but put in 100 percent every time. It would send us down the world rankings maybe but it might just be the kick up backside soe of the "golden generation" needs. Rant/mental idea over

Danish Saint Posted 27 June, 2010 Share Posted 27 June, 2010 I can only speak for the Denmark team, but many of the players that were selected, should have stayed home. We played "the old guard", with emphasis on "old".... Denmark will never win the World Cup, so why go into a tournament, thinking we could? The players that were selected, was taken thinking, we should have a go at winning the whole thing. I believe that's the wrong approach to playing a tournament. I'd rather take a team of youngstersm with the aim to entertain, play the type of quick, accurate passing game I like to watch and maybe win the next game. You should give youngsters the chance to shine at the biggest stage. They have the hunger and the lack of fear for a bad result. Instead we played the past and "has-beens", who were looking for retirement and had no fire. If more teams took this approach, Germany did, the tournament would be a whole lot more fun to watch. But we had Milner, SWP, Lennon, Rooney can you say any one of those younger players did anything other than appear as a rabbit in headlights? Danish Saint Posted 27 June, 2010 Share Posted 27 June, 2010 But we had Milner, SWP, Lennon, Rooney can you say any one of those younger players did anything other than appear as a rabbit in headlights? Rooney was not fit to play. How much could SWP, Lennon and Milner do, when Lampard, Gerrard, Carragher, Terry, Heskey, Barry, Upson, Johnson, Cole couldn't care less? Under Weststand Posted 27 June, 2010 Share Posted 27 June, 2010 What I want is a manager with the Balls to pick just 1 from Gerrard & Lamphard pick players who aren't injured, pick players who play in their positions week in week out, try picking strikers who actually know where the net is. Try making a team instead of 11 super stars(at least in their own minds). I got fed up of them saying today that there were only a couple of Germans would make our team. Trouble is they were a complete team, not a bunch over priced, over paid primer dona's. So in response yes I'd rather see the younger players given a go, & maybe the likes of Ricky Lambert from the lower leagues given a go, the so called golden era has resulted in nothing but disappointment, & under-achievement! So what do we really have to loose by trying something radical.
JackFrost Posted 27 June, 2010 Share Posted 27 June, 2010 11 world class players don't necessarily make a good team. (And we don't even have 11 world class players) I think we had better players on the pitch against Germany, difference is they were a far better team and actually gave a sod
