Best Players to never have played in the WC.

Roy Keane I think would be a candidate.

And Shevchenko played in all 5 of Ukraine's WC games in Germany I think. Scored a couple too and missed one in a shoot out. From that neck of the woods, I'm not sure about Kanchelskis and Mostovoi. Arshavin definitely hasn't, although I'd hardly say he was great.

Eric Cantona never played in a WC....??? 'uck me, I never knew that...! Why not?

He had a bit of a chequered past with international football, at one point he was even banned from international matches for a year after insulting the French manager on live TV! He was always involved in scuffles and fights when he played in France too, he racked up 5 or 6 club and international bans for his off-field conduct in the 8 years he played in France. At one famous disciplinary hearing, he was banned from football for a month after starting a fight at a training session while playing for Nimes, and when he heard the sentence he walked up to each member of the comittee and called them "idiot" right in their faces! He was banned for a further two months for that one...

He actually retired from football altogether in 1991, but Michel Platini persuaded him to come back, he moved to Leeds and then Man Utd, and the rest is history!

Great man, he gave the world my favourite ever quotation; "I have a lot of good moments, but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan."

Thanks for that - so all in all a pretty volatile character then. Would be quite interesting if he was in the current French squad after the recent goings on...!

I'm pretty sure Domenech would be sporting a fair few stud marks in his face by now! :D
