Thedelldays Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 if and when capello calls it a day..? other nations do well by giving a previous talisman the job who has little or no experience in club managment.. look at the argies with maradonna...they look awesome.. germany did well with klinsmann etc etc etc.. thoughts..? skintsaint Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Not sure right now, think he is still 'mates' with a lot of the England team. Maybe in 10 years time when he has no current connections with the player staff?
Saint_clark Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Gerrard, Lampard and Terry will all have retired by the time the next world comes around so i'd say yes, give him the job. The examples, as you say, show that it does work.

Not for me, Maradona had to learn on the job and after the initial fiasco (including a 6-1 loss against the might of Bolivia) he is doing well for Argentina because he knows exactly how they should play, he practically dragged the Argies to world cup glory in '86 all by himself. Even now there are still questions defensively over them. The other aspect is the Argies have some of the world's best attacking, creative players within their squad whereas we have nothing near that class. Beckham just wouldn't cut it, and if he was appointed manager he'd be another yes man like McClaren was.

SuperMikey Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 I saw him on the bench shouting at the players and reacting after missed chances and thought the same. Whether he has the tactical nous to be able to mastermind a successful England side though is another matter. Perhaps he would be good as an Assistant Manager or Coach, because he's been around on the biggest stage for long enough to pick up the most important points of the game. Barry the Badger Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 I think we should take the money we keep paying these managers, and use it to get the worlds best sports pshycologist.
MulletMan Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Beckham is by far the most overrated player in England. There are plenty of better options out there. DB should stick to Calvin Klein.

If you saw last nights evidence then that title has clearly passed to Rooney, closely followed by Lumplard and Cole.
Saint_lambden Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Beckham was the most passionate player last night...and he wasn't even playing. Maybe manager in a few years when he gets experience
Badger Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Watching last night and just seeing the expressions of those on the sidelines I even wondered if we would not be better off if Crappello was told to f^ck off now and allow Beckham to take on the last game.'Siege mentality' and all that. Longer term I doubt Beckham would want such a role, but it would come as no surprise to me if someone else is in charge for Euro 2012 qualifications. MulletMan Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Rooney is a world class player, yesterday was an exception. Lampard and Cole are better than average usually. Beckham was a good player a couple of years ago, today he is nothing more than mediocre. IMO, people are exaggerating his ability due to the his name. The annoying thing with Beckham is that people who don´t give a **** about football recognise him, but they have never heard about Messi, Torres, Drogba etc.

MulletMan Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Ronaldo is a great example. If you ask me though, he is a much more skilled player than Beckham has ever been. I have nothing against Ronaldo mainly because he deserves the money/attention and he is only 25. Don´t you think the clubs uses Beckham more as a commercial than as a player? Galaxy for instance could bring several better players with the amount of money they paid him. Look at the other players honours in Englands squad. Lampard, Gerrard, Cole and Rooney have much more talent imo. If a team in it´s whole suck, then it will affect all of the players. I am sure Rooney would have a better game if the rest played good. Good or bad, in any case todays footballers gets paid way to much. I think we can all agree on that.
saint_stevo Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Imagine being able to throw Beckham and Crouch on together? One person who CAN put a ball on someone's head..... Crab Lungs Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 I have always maintained that Beckham would make a dreadful manager. Always. I just didn't think he'd possess the qualities or tactical nous to be a manager. BUT (!) After seeing him looking all dapper on the sidelines, kicking every ball and encouraging the side I've had a change. It was weird... me and me friend were sitting there watching the game and he turned to me and said "what about Beckham as a manager?"... now, I at that time I was thinking exactly the same thing. For some reason I believe it could work. How? Well, if he surrounded himself with top quality, knowledgable coaches then Becks presence enough should be enough to inspire anyone to play for their country. I've no doubt that if you got rid of many of the cloggers, the old guard and brought in young players who looked up to Beckham, who idolised him then he could infact do very, very well. Of course for every good appointment of an idol at national level (Klinsmann) there is a bad one (Stoichkov, Bulgaria and so forth) but with Beckham, I think it might ust work. He certainly possesses the passion for the country and I don't think you'd see any of his sides labour or wilt.
