Nexstar Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Why oh why is he not playing?! Milner started on the left in the first game, subbed for SWP, then Gerrard last night who swapped with SWP. Wright-Phillips just is not good enough at this level, he hasn't played regularly enough in the Premier League yet. Joe Cole is pacey, creative, skillful and can score - everything England lacked last night. He simply HAS to play against Slovenia.
Saint_lambden Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Spot on. I was bemused as to why he didn't come on yesterday- he changes games. Team v Slovenia should be IMO: -----------------James-------------------- -Johnson---Terry---Upson----A.Cole- -----------------Barry---------------- -Lennon-------Lampard-----J.Cole- ---------------Gerrard-------------- ---------------Rooney-------------- simples.
Saint_clark Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Capello is an Italian, and they are famous for playing disciplined, rigid formations that do not deviate from the set course one iota.
thesaint sfc Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Totally agree. I rate Joe Cole above SWP every day of the week. Should be in the starting 11. Not only that, but he has always performed well for England.
Barry the Badger Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Capello is an Italian, and they are famous for playing disciplined, rigid formations that do not deviate from the set course one iota. But he played Cole in qualifying.
skintsaint Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 didnt Pele once say he would be the only Englishman (at the time) who was good technically enough to get into the Brazilian side?
itchen_dan Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Last night was terrible. Too rigid with no creativity. Team should be IMO: -------------------James------------------- ----Johnson---Terry--Dawson---Cole---- -------------Lampard--Barry-------------- ----Lennon-------Gerrard--------Cole--- --------------------Rooney----------------
thesaint sfc Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 We need a total mix up IMO. We're just getting nowhere at the moment. 4-5-1 with Rooney up front is desperately needed for the next game with Gerrard just behind him.
Gorgiesaint Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 (edited) What was the point in taking Joe Cole to the WC if he's not going to use him? I would have brought him on in both games (irrespective of the fact he should be starting), but if Capello doesn't use him in the next game then it makes a joke of leaving Walcott out of the squad - who is someone else who could have changed both games. Should be: ----------------- James ----------------- Johnson -- Dawson -- Terry -- A Cole ---------- Carrick ---- Barry ----------- SWP ---------- Gerrard ---------J Cole ----------------- Rooney --------------- Edited 19 June, 2010 by Gorgiesaint
Arizona Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 I'd play: DJ GJ - JT - MD - AC Lennon - Barry - Gerrard - Cole Rooney - Crouch
Nexstar Posted 19 June, 2010 Author Posted 19 June, 2010 I'd play: DJ GJ - JT - MD - AC Lennon - Barry - Gerrard - Cole Rooney - Crouch Exactly my team
Barry the Badger Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 I honestly don't think individual players would have made any difference last night, the whole mindset of the team was wrong and that would have affected anybody who came on in my opinion.
Red Alert Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Joe Cole has IMO been Englands best player for around the last 4 years. The guy is class and can change games easily. How on earth he doesn't get in the starting XI let alone the Chelsea team really does baffle me.
Thedelldays Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 why, why why do we waste natural talent...? joe cole has been a star in the past and now cant get a sniff..? players like him should be played in their best position and have the team moulded around them.. he is brilliant.....oddly, he is on a free transfer this summer...no doubt arsenal, liverpool, spurs and man u will be fighting for him
Dark Munster Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Just swapping Heskey and SWP with Crouch and Cole would be a huge improvement. Simples.
S-Clarke Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 Just swapping Heskey and SWP with Crouch and Cole would be a huge improvement. Simples. SWP should be nowhere near the team anyway, so suprised he got called up.
Thedelldays Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 I would do this for the next game -------------james johnson----dawson--terry----cole ------------barry -----gerrard-----carrick -----------j.cole ---------rooney give cole a free role in the attacking third
SuperMikey Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 I don't think Cole's got the presence to be able to play behind a lone striker - England need someone with a bit of brawn like Lampard or Gerrard. Cole is a bit lightweight. Besides, he's much better on the left wing anyway, if he can provide decent service for Rooney then England will start winning.

SuperMikey Posted 19 June, 2010 Posted 19 June, 2010 why the **** would anyone ever play Carrick? He gets a lot of unfair stick imo. He's not had a good season this year, but he is still a quality holding midfielder, and if he can recapture his past form then he'd be an asset to England.
Deano6 Posted 20 June, 2010 Posted 20 June, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj_06hLQPdk enough said. This vid has reminded me that we have essentially had no one emerge as a good new player since the last world cup 4 years ago. Our team back then included Rooney, Crouch, Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, A Cole plus Hargreaves and Ferdinand. Ok I'll give you Glenn Johnson, but that was more that we had a vacancy to fill there than displacing another player. Also not convinced Lennon/SWP have made any kind of impact, more that Beckham retired. We appear not to have progressed one bit in the 4 years, but gone backwards.
dubai_phil Posted 20 June, 2010 Posted 20 June, 2010 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup-2010/teams/england/7841279/World-Cup-2010-morale-at-an-all-time-low-as-England-faces-early-exit.html So the pampered luvvies heads are fecked up. I thought that was why they had training camps and hangers on and Psychologists etc.... Interesting that Rooney didn't touch the ball in the Algerian box And that FINALLY Joe Cole's name is getting an airing along with a change of tactics. Hope he watched how Denmark played last night, pace movement and occassionally some accuracy in their passing
doggface Posted 23 June, 2010 Posted 23 June, 2010 Other than hold the ball up well in the corner counting down the clock, thought JC was pretty poor today. That said he hasn't really had much of a chance yet. An improved performance today, should have been out of sight though. A few odd substitutions imo, but what a fantastic tackle by upson!
