SuperMikey Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 Today was summed up in two moments. First - when Gerrard squared it for nobody on 55 minutes. if he is playing for Liverpool he would have buried that. But because he doesn't feel he needs to carry the team and take the extra risk, run the extra yard - he didn't bother. He just passed on the responsibility out of fear, or because he can't be bothered. Second - Capello subbing SWP on for Lennon. That's right, take off our most dangerous player who actually did offer something different or bring on a sack of sh*t that shouldn't have even been on the plane. If we don't beat Slovenia, don't be surprised if he gets the sack. He won't be sacked, he was umm-ing and ahh-ing about signing a contract extension to give him another year after the WC but I believe there's a clause in his contract that enables him to leave if England don't get past the Quarter Finals. As for the team for Slovenia, i'd still pick the team I posted up earlier with a few minor changes: -----------------Hart----------------- Johnson----Terry----Dawson----A.Cole Lennon-----Barry----Carrick-----J.Cole ----------------Gerrard---------------- ----------------Rooney---------------- It's a toss-up between Lennon and Milner for the RM slot, but I think Lennon did enough today to justify his place in the starting lineup for Wednesday. The rest of the team really need to get their act together though, won't look good on their footballing CV if they were part of the England team touted as one of the big favourites before the tournament but went out in a group containing Slovenia, Algeria and the USA. I don't even support England and i'm getting angry about it FFS!
Badger Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 We need to give the "big players" a right kick up the ass. Drop terry, lampard, Rooney, heskey, and whatshisface on the right. Bring in Dawson, cole, Defoe, and crouch. Out of necessity he will probably play on Wednesday.

Badger Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 One major problem is that the three 'Billy-Big-B0ll0cks' (Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard) don't want to be team players. They're basically selfish . Agreed.

skintsaint Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 Defoe should start, made a difference to our attack in the last 15 or so mins. Anyway im off to bed its 5am... teamsaint Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 Reckon that is about right. Might not be the worlds best, but might have some idea of how to win a game. Defoe at least did a few bits and pieces, and Crouchie is always a threat.Gerradd was poor but at least gave it a go. What exactly it is that lampard adds to the team has been a mystery for a long time. What BWP is doing out there is also a mystery. I assume it IS bradley?? Have we all been fooled by a fairly easy qualifying group? And in case it carries on on weds, what is Italian for "turnip head"?

Northernsaint Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 The thing with lampard, gerrard Rooney et al is that they play with bloody good team mates, it's just that they're not English. They're made to look better than they actually are. That my friend has hit the nail right on the head. Where would rooney have been this season without Valencia/nani/scholes. Cestrian Saint Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 (edited) My starting 11 before the tournament began would have been... Hart Johnson Terry Dawson A. Cole Lennon Lampard Barry J. Cole Gerrard Rooney It's still the side I'd like to see Fabio have the ******** to play. 18 months ago I really thought he would bring change to the England team. All I see is a man whose lost his bottle and gone for the safe option. His treatment of Robert Green is disgraceful. How many premiership managers drop their keeper for making one mistake?... None! All keepers make mistakes. David James didn't earn the nickname 'Calamity' without good reason. Joe Hart is obviously the future England keeper, so why not put him in now so that he can make the place his own for the next 10-15 years? We look like a different side when Joe Cole plays. I don't understand why Capello has ignored him so far. Rooney has said he'd rather play up front on his own with Gerrard behind him, so why not do it? Capello's big mistake was not taking Theo. At least he would have given us something different when things were not going our way. All we've got is players who are too similar. Theo needs a year of regular football before he should play international football again.
Micky Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 Well following the USA game it was good to see that Rooney backed up all his 'posturing' in the press about 'now is the time to deliver', 'the players are raring to go' etc, etc with a really world class performance. Aaahhhhh maybe not then. You would have thought by now that we would have learned to stay 'low profile' when it comes to major tournaments. I know that we English like to think that we are the best at everything, but the reality is we are pretty mediocre. Personally I'm soooo pleased that we played Algeria tonight - it could have been Brazil or Argentina, and that would have been embarrasing. I think the kindest thing now would be to go out with a wimper in the final game - it could actually turn out to be a blessing in disquise, let's face it, we really don't want this shower of shyte coming up against the 'big guns', we would get slaughtered. scotty Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 we looked like a bunch of f*cking amateurs tonight. Every time we got the ball we either looked like losing it, or not having the slightest f*cking clue what to do with it. Almost every time algeria got it they knew what to do and where to go with it. And they knew enough to pressure us in order to get the ball, wtf were we doing in that respect? That was men against boys, we were pathetic, I cant think of a single positive. saint_stevo Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 complete bull. Rubbish. Rooney looked terrible and moaning like a ***** about getting booed after the game doesn't endear you any Shrek boy. Should be dropped, and we should go with the Spurs boys in the next game. Not the time for 4-5-1 IMO, we need to win. 4-4-2 again but with the correct personnel. How bad is SWP. How negative was Lennon. How slow is Carragher. How nervous did James look. How lost was Gerrard. Pathetic. Anyone who says Joe Cole is better than Lampard is an utter spunkmonkey as well, Lamps not great in an England shirt, but still twice the player Joe Cole is. Fabio has lost the plot. Why do i look forward to this utter utter dross
SaintNeil90 Posted 18 June, 2010 Share Posted 18 June, 2010 Why play 4-4-2 when it clearly doesn't work. When we played 4-5-1 (More like a 4-3-2-1, see below) against Croatia in the qualifiers I finally thought we had a manager with new ideas and a team that was responding to him in a positive way. In my eyes the team that would give us a performance is this: ...................................Hart.................................. Johnson............Terry............Dawson............A.Cole Lennon......................Barry...........................J.Cole .................Lampard................Gerrard................... ................................Rooney.................................
