Rut Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 Still feeling confident at half time? I get to see quite a few Mexico games. Sven-Goran Eriksson managed to screw them over badly. Since he has left they are playing with a lot more flare and are a good team on their day. Don't read too much into their struggle to quality - most of the defeats were under Eriksson. The 1st half showed they are no mugs. Have France got another gear? They need to find it if they do...

Andy_Porter Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 I would like to know the thinking behind Domenech taking Gignac, Henry and Govou ahead of Benzema? He hasn't had the best of seasons but he'd be a far better option than those three.

Andy_Porter Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 (edited) Benzema with either Henry or Anelka up front, Ribery on the right, Malouda on the left with Toulalan and Nasri in the middle and they would have surely qualified. This 4-2-3-1 they have been playing doesn't seem to suit any of their players. If they had a player like Zidane then maybe the formation would work, sadly Gourcouf and Ribery are no way near that level on current form. Ribery since his injury has been poor and obviously has personal problems on his mind, it was Robben who carried Bayern for a lot of the season. With their squad they should be playing 4-4-2 and giving it a proper go. Edited 17 June, 2010 by Andy_Porter

Gorgiesaint Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 Fantastic to see the French surrender so meekly. Domenech may be an arse but the players just don't look like they give a toss. Agree with that, especially having witnessed the french mentality first-hand from a previous job I'm not at all surprised. saints_is_the_south Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 Said from the start France were my prediction out of the "big" nations to go out at the group stage. They are truley gash. Very good performance by Mexico though, played some great football. It's possible we could meet them in the QF if we win our group, not a game I'd look forward to tbh as I reckon they are capable of upsetting anyone. Rut Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 The mighty CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) marches on! This is where USA, Mexico & Honduras qualified from (35 start in it - 3 qualify - 1 goes into play off with South American team - Costa Rica lost to Uruguay). USA & Mexico do suffer from a fairly easy qualification route but it's not a total 'walk in the park'. They do have to be able to play a bit to get through. Good to see Mexico do a number on France. Will be interesting to compare USA v Slovenia tomorrow. If USA play well they will win easily - trust me. It ain't always that simple though.... Tournament is warming up :-)

I would add italy to that group too, defensively pretty good but they look so so numb up front. I think they will make it through the group.......just, then they are gone. TBF even Spain arent looking too pretty, the swiss should beat Honduras and TBF Chile will give Spain a difficult game. Especially if it goes down to the wire out of those two. Could be a challenge. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/24/england-mexico-international-friendly If you're right, England should be able to repeat this performance. They are more likely to be thinking back to that game, and assume that they will walk it. Nasty awakening I fear.
