Not wanting to be too critical of the Spanish but it does strike me that a midfield of Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta & Xavi Alonso is just too similar, at least Fabregas can break into the box to support the strikers. And how much do they miss Torres?

Thoroughly deserved win, they defended really well, Spain didn't really create enough to get back in the game and with 15 minutes to go looked like they'd run out of ideas.

In my works 'predict the score for points' competition that was the first match where not one person out of 35 got the right result. Only one entrant got points for predicting the right winner and that was probably the randomly generated one whose task is to embarrass people who get less points.

Germany beat a really really sh*t Australia side with no strikers. We drew with a pretty decent USA side and should have won but for individual mistakes from Green and Heskey.

 

Incidentally, that's Switzerland's 5th clean sheet in a row at World Cup finals. They went out of the last World Cup on penalties to Ukraine, without conceding a goal in the tournament.

TBF, we pretty much dominated, all USA did of note was headed wide once and had a single long shot which green unfortunately f*cked up.

 

We had about 6 chances which we didn't convert.

 

We hardly played sh*t, Germany took chances against a very very poor Aussie team, we didn't against a tough and in good form USA. Enough said.

Mate at work said Spain would pee all over Switzerland, predicting a 4-0 caning. I told him not to underestimate the Swiss, they're getting better. Wish I'd put my money where my mouth is. :-(
