JackFrost Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 as their coach says "we are the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, do not use any other name!" Those hoping for Brazil to light up the tournament by going into double figures tonight will be disappointed to learn that North Korea (oops) had one of the best defensive records in the world during qualification. The South Koreans only won 1 of the 4 games played against them. I'm going for a 4-0 win tonight if Brazil turn up. If Brazil play badly it'll be a narrow 1-0.
Gully Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 The tournament is desperate for goals so hopefully it will be somewhat of a tonking.
Saintandy666 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 I just hope they make the Dear Leader proud and happy.
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 I can't wait to see how defensive North Korea are, ZonalMarking.net have them playing a back 5 with 2 defensive midfielders (though too short to defend set pieces well), and it'll be interesting to see if Jong Tae-Se gets a kick up front, cos he's pretty decent.
SuperMikey Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Bless the guy that's crying in the North Korea team! What a moment that must be though...
trousers Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Outfield players wearing gloves in a world cup finals match....must be a first?
SO16_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 the first 1:50 has had more excitement than the previous 180 today - and there's only been one run!
SO16_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Outfield players wearing gloves in a world cup finals match....must be a first? dont know whether they were taking the p1ss but they just said it was the coldest WC match ever?
trousers Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 dont know whether they were taking the p1ss but they just said it was the coldest WC match ever? Gotta be a chance of that being true. Just checked weather app and current temp is +2, predicted to be freezing before end of game
Ponty Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Come on, North Korea. I'd love to see Brazil get turned over. They are the Man Utd of World football.
saints_is_the_south Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Was thinking about sticking a quid on Brazil to win 8-0 at 150/1, didn't get round to it. Hope for some goals and a decent game, this tournament aside from the Germany game has been total gash so far.
SO16_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 DPRK are 105th in the world. It's like Chelsea playing someone in the Conference.
stevegrant Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Korea seem neat and tidy in possession, with plenty of enthusiasm, but you would expect Brazil to eventually tire them out and exploit the spaces that'll create.
Saintandy666 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 The DPRK will be well bonded together as well, no domestic football this year to distract them.
Ponty Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 The Korean crowd are the first I've been able to hear over those fuuuuuuuucking horns.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 North Korea's number 9 looks quite handy...
SO16_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 North Korea are doing bloody well. look good in defence and quick going forward
saints_is_the_south Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 North Korea are doing bloody well. look good in defence and quick going forward +1. Looking pretty good so far and seem to have a lot of confidence on the ball. I fear they'll tire in the 2nd half though...
saint_stevo Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Centre half and centre forward (tsae?) look pretty handy
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Love to see them hold out till HT...although then ITV will be using all the cliches they normally save for the FA Cup...
GenevaSaint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Well, HT 0-0. DPRK have done bloody well, well organised, focused, breaking quickly where possible. #9 does look quite tasty. That's a result for them already. 105th in the world rankings!
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 (edited) Not that I saw this kind of performance by North Korea, but from the Predictions thread : No goalscorer in North Korea v Portugal on June 21 Portugal haven't scored in aeons and can't score, NK are a superbly drilled defensive side... could happen. Shame this is ruining the odds for me, I was hoping for at least 10/1 ! Also, watch the video here if you want to see what Tae Se is capable of (and some awful NK defending) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ65eKjd6ak&feature=player_embedded And this article on their tactics : http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/05/26/north-korea-a-better-side-than-you-might-expect/ Edited 15 June, 2010 by The9
JackFrost Posted 15 June, 2010 Author Posted 15 June, 2010 The Korean crowd are the first I've been able to hear over those fuuuuuuuucking horns. There aren't any North Korean fans there for obvious reasons. China have flown in 1000 Chinese people to cheer the North Koreans on. Just before the game started they were all performing this synchronised clapping routine complete with conductor
CB Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Bugger me. I thought the Koreans were gonna get mullered.
trousers Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 north korea's number 9 looks quite handy... chdajfu?
JackFrost Posted 15 June, 2010 Author Posted 15 June, 2010 Just shows how effective an organised defence can be, regardless of any gulf in class. Considering most of the North Koreans play for teams in the North Korean army, it isn't surprised they are very organised and very disciplined. I only saw them give away what, 1 free kick in the first half? They have one of the best defensive records in the world during qualifying and it isn't surprising me their defending this well. I still believe Brazil will win it but it's going to take 1 or 2 fairly late goals IMO
JackFrost Posted 15 June, 2010 Author Posted 15 June, 2010 chdajfu? Jong Tae-Sae plays for Kawasaki Frontale in the Japanese J-League. He's one of only 3 players who are allowed to play outside of North Korea, but h'e sout of our league at this moment I would have thought
SuperMikey Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 DPRK have been impressive so far, they've really stifled Brazil and not let them play by chasing down the ball and pressurising their playmakers. How long that will last for though is up in the air. They do seem a lot fitter than the Brazilians though, they've not stopped running so far whereas Brazil have been fairly static. Still, I can't look past Brazil for the win, reckon they'll snatch it 2-0 with a piledriver from Luis Fabiano and a late goal from a mazy run by Robinho.
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Makes me laugh commentator is bloody clueless, frigging obvious he sliced it in and the keeper was never going to get it. Bit of a fluke, but clearly never took a deflection even without a replay.
Ponty Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Another crap bit of goalkeeping. Nope, a goal for the ball. I'm not sure what the keeper could have done there.
SO16_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Another crap bit of goalkeeping. thats a bit harsh
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Another crap bit of goalkeeping. Can't blame the keeper for that, he'd have been covering a cross, the ball was running out of play and Maicon just lamped it across, he was lucky as hell it went in.
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Nope, a goal for the ball. I'm not sure what the keeper could have done there. Nothing to do with the ball either, any football would swerve like that when hit by someone running full tilt at an angle to it.
benjii Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 What an idiot that commentator is. Anyone could see that was a brilliant strike by Maicon. "That was own goal.. blah, blah, blah.... did he mean it? blah blah blah". Ignorant ****. If he can't tell from Maicon's body position and strike technique in real-time that that was a shot then he isn't qualified to do the job. Moron.
Ponty Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Pretty sure he was hooking that back in, judging by the replay, it swerved off like a bastard.
benjii Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 It was clearly entirely deliberate. No luck whatsoever. Great goal.
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Pretty sure he was hooking that back in, judging by the replay, it swerved off like a bastard. Yep, he was just lamping it across the box, doing all he could to try and keep it in. Jammy, but they all count. There is an outside possibilty he meant it, but I'd have to see his eyes on a super-slo-mo.
benjii Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Pretty sure he was hooking that back in, judging by the replay, it swerved off like a bastard. Yep, he was just lamping it across the box, doing all he could to try and keep it in. Jammy, but they all count. I'm sorry but you're both clueless.
The9 Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 I'm sorry but you're both clueless. We'll see. You'll notice Juan just did exactly the same thing, sliced it onto the roof of the net...
suewhistle Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Bit hard on the keeper, but you know what they say about always coveering your near post. Leave the cross to the other defenders.
SO16_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 it was a cross IMO - much like Drogbas goal earlier this season. a goal is a goal is a goal
