Chez Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Mills always looked better as a midfielder compared to a left back, did he? Which game was that then? Every time he has come on to play in front of Harding he has got in his way and looked completely lost IMO. Looking aty Pardews intentions, he has identified a top class player who is available for next to notihing. Its' a no brainer. Get him in as he is better than Mills. Mills becomes surplus to requirements now and may leave, but in Pardews eyes the squad has improved.

Anyone who thinks he can't DAJFU need only ask Sbudgiehorpe fans about him. I think a season long loan would do him some good. I can see Harding leaving within the next year after Dickson's signing. I really don't see him being impressed with a year playing reserve football.
Saint_clark Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 (edited) Dan Harding is being sold to Peterborough IMO. Apparently they'd agreed a fee and terms with a league one club for a left back, but were waiting for the selling club to get a replacement before it went through. Edited 15 June, 2010 by Saint_clark

Besides, the posh fan that said that on FootballForums never said 'with a League One club'. Just because we've signed Dickson doesn't mean Harding will be leaving/pushed aside. FFS what a bunch of drama queens we have in our fanbase.

You don't think the two set of circumstances fit each other perfectly then?

That's what I mean though and I agree with you, we now have 2 top class LB's, one of which can play LM too. Left side sorted? Mills has become surplus to requirements IMO.
ohwhenthesaints Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Could just as easily be Mills who is on his way out though.
Saint_clark Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Could just as easily be Mills who is on his way out though. If Posh sign Mills and not Harding then I will breathe a huge sigh of relief, but I doubt it.
buctootim Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 2 and 2 dont make 397. You can concoct any number scenarios for any given situation. Doesnt make it true.
Under Weststand Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Seems to be a good signing, welcome to Saints Ryan. The club appear to be having a real dig in Calderon's agent's direction, in other words behave professionally in buisness dealings with us or your out of here good to see IMHO. AP building a good looking squad, good competition at L/B. Just need a good R/B in now and a central midfielder.
ottery st mary Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 How far is Ben Reeves LB away from being a good back up for first team squad? Will Murty recover after Summer fitness campaign and prove in pre season he is good enough to start again.. With Harding and Argent be used as back up at RB if Murty makes it back? Harding and Dickson and of course Mills for Left side or will there be some more exits/loans? Thank goodness we have Pards and his crew to make these decisions........I would be left with a squad of hundreds.
SuperMikey Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Excellent signing, not sure why there's so much negativity on this thread though. Pardew will do what he wants to do, play who he wants to play, and sell who he wants to sell. It's up to us to trust in him and get behind the team. In my view, we'll have Dickson and Harding both competing for the LB slot on a rotational basis, maybe we'll even see Dickson play LM once in a while as he can play there too. The situation re: Mills though is an interesting one - will he leave in search of first team football or stay and play reserve football? I think the former is more likely...
dune Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Apart from the playground digs (grow up Cortese) i'm happy with any signing, especially when the said signings weaken our opponents.

SamKimish Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Good signing, will be interesting to see how Dickson AND Harding will fit in the team as I think they are both worthy of a starting XI place. Maybe Harding Left Midfield? He always looked good on the attack IMHO.
Matthew Le God Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Maybe Harding Left Midfield? He always looked good on the attack IMHO. No chance, nor will Harding play right back like some have suggested. Either Mills will go on loan or Harding/Mills will be sold.
sfc4prem Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Definitely sounds like Harding to me. Could be any number of teams, didn't Huddersfield just sign a Left-Back? I don't know, but I can't really picture it being Harding... Why would he have already agreed terms even before Dickson was on the radar?? Oh well. If you think Harding's off then I'll just agree to disagree.
Red and White Army Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Funny how alpine saint is nowhere to be seen
itchen_dan Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/426975170?-11205 Hahal! Sour grapes or what? Also like the comment about our 'awful' new kit that the majority of our fans and many across the country love
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 One of the blokes on 606, who works for the BBC, describes him as 'the Gareth Bale of League One'. Let's hope so!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 I think that Harding need not be worried. The club are building a squad and there needs to be a healthy competition for places. If we see our right side unable to get to the bye-line then Harding's left foot could introduce that dimension as well as cover for injury/suspension. I felt he had a good season last year and I'm sure that we will see more positions being doubled up to give cover and variation to the squad.
Saint Charlie Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Doncaster just signed a left back too, maybe one of theirs is going to P'boro. If its a Saint, makes much more sense to be Mills.
Joesaint Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Can't believe your telling cortese to grow up!!!!!!! everything he does is a million times better than anything I could have hoped for, do you work for the Echo and hence just sour maybe? I think you should think before you write stuff.
adrian lord Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 a good looking bloke. About time Crikey - I didn't realise you're gay.
saint_stevo Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Crikey - I didn't realise you're gay. I'm not, it's just good to see handsome men in the sash

He's going to be spending next season in the reserves, possibly playing in the cup games.
hackedoff Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 Is Harding any good at RB, and is he going to be happy about it ?
goneawol Posted 15 June, 2010 Posted 15 June, 2010 http://www.ealinggazette.co.uk/sport/football-ealing/2010/06/15/scott-wants-300-000-for-ryan-dickson-64767-26656756/
iansums Posted 16 June, 2010 Posted 16 June, 2010 Interesting that saints valued him at £100K, this seems a little on the low side. However you can see that NC is keeping a very tight control on the purse strings, quite right too.
LostBoys Posted 16 June, 2010 Posted 16 June, 2010 I think the Dickson story started with the local Brentford newspaper if I remember NewsNow at the time and this is probably where the echo picked it up from. The Calderon thing is interesting in that we did not offer him a contract and presumably were only in discussions.

AP building a good looking squad, good competition at L/B. Just need a good R/B in now and a central midfielder. I think we need 2 RBs and maybe 2 central midfielders (possibly 3)! I reckon the following are good shouts: RBs - Simon Francis (Southend United), Danny Cold (Blackpool) and Danny Butterfield (Crystal Palace) CMs - Nicky Bailey (Charlton Athletic), Brian Stock (Doncaster Rovers), Chris Lines (Bristol Rovers) and Neil Danns (Crystal Palace) A striker or 2 and another top quality CB would do nicely! A good start to our summer transfer business with Ryan Dickson too!
