Ponty Posted 16 June, 2010 Share Posted 16 June, 2010 Ponty...what does this new format/setup offer that it is so different it is worth making people not like it..? The links are arguably more intuitive but that's quite subjective. It's really Steve's baby but I believe that if we wanted to take advantage of the latest vBulletin software then we had to change the skin too as the previous one was no longer compatible. There are dozens of reasons why upgrading to the latest version was desirable from an administrative point of view but I can accept that at the point of use these are less tangible. One thing I have no doubt of is that the niggles will be resolved as they come to light and ultimately we will be left with something that is more obviously far superior to what we had before. RonManager Posted 16 June, 2010 Share Posted 16 June, 2010 I don't know if this helps you, RM, but clicking "What's New?" on the banner (under Keegan on my screen) brings up a list solely of threads with posts you haven't read, defaulted to newest at the top. It's what I do to save me clicking in and out of the main page to see where I need to go and read posts for moderation purposes. Yes, I've used that - it appears to do the same job as the 'New Posts' button. Both are fine. What I would like is either of those buttons to be available at the base of the page as they do not appear in the 'Quick Navigation' drop down menu. It just saves going back to the top to use them. dune Posted 16 June, 2010 Share Posted 16 June, 2010 There's nothing wrong with the basic format/set up that a few tweeks won't put right. Essentially it's the same as the old forum and there's very little to do to improve the aesthetic look.

Just make The9 register on blogspot........... Upgrade for upgrade's sake? The white is vile and stands out more than before. None of this is personal, i like Steve (apart from when he played his part in my horrific knee injury) and have in the past spent time with him socially so its nothing to do with them personally, just that the site was 'upgraded' and now x amount of people either have problems or dislike the new style/interface

I would say I would score it about 3....with the last format about 9.. why the change..? this is a message board not a blog site...you will find that the same 3 or so posters will post blogs...and it will become dull as fuk...this place is losing the feel of what made it so bloody good.. the colours in this format are awful, it is slow, and has peed off alot of people who would not normally say.. however, I get the impression that the admin team will stick with this regardless now to prove a point..? I hope the few new features are worth peeing off those who would normally pay up.. like I have said, I wont be renewing my £5...I paid £5 for the last site but this is far far worse...it even seems quieter on here Edited 17 June, 2010 by Thedelldays

Get off their backs and get behind the forum and the club ffs! Exactly! I see Steve and Boj like Markus and Nicola. Without ML and NC we would have no Saints and without Steve and Boj we would have no forum. People shouldn't question either pair, they are both here to save us and make things good. Everyone should stop their moaning and get behind whoever is helping Saints.....be it through saving us from administration or providing a fantastic, if not a little white, forum. Granted (no pun intended Steve!! LOL) my eyes are hurting, but that's partly from the white and partly from reading so many pointless posts from pointless human beings. stevegrant Posted 17 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 17 June, 2010 You'll find that pages you view for the first time (since the server change) will still take a little while to load - one of the JavaScript libraries used by this style is 400kb - but once they've been loaded once, they'll be pretty much instant from then onwards as they'll be cached by your browser. The only thing that will take any time will be content you've not seen and the actual text from posts that is retrieved from the database.

Scudamore Posted 17 June, 2010 Share Posted 17 June, 2010 thanks for the insult..I was asking a genuine question I guess the answer is..there is nothing this horrid format does really that the other could not have done Dulldays is an endearing term...don't get all upset. And if you're so sensitive yourself maybe you shouldn't dispense with the relentless criticism of something that someone else has worked pretty hard on for your enjoyment. Your wife may just stab you in the chest over the dinner table one of these days if you're not careful. The improvement as i see it is integration. Bringing all the elements under one banner. Instead of having a website with a forum tacked on we now have full integration of forum with the website. Now admittedly most people are much more interested in the forum than the rest of the site. But that's not the point. It's another step in the evolution of the site. In order to do this we've had to move onto vBulletin Version 4. This is what Version 4 looks like and how it navigates. Obviously the people at vBulletin who make a good living out of the software have decided that this is an improvement on previous versions. For me the forum is much the same except for the colour scheme which as i've mentioned before really doesnt float my boat. It's something i can live with though. Just my opinion though. Obviously Steve and Bajer are the people to really speak to. But i get the feeling they're a bit bored of your unconstructives moaning to reply. Just wondered if they made sense or not? After yesterdays server tweak by Steve, page migration really sped up. But today it's back to taking up to 10 seconds to migrate from page to page I'm afraid. I've checked it against other sites and it is the only one taking anywhere near this long. The typing delay is intermittent now.
stevegrant Posted 18 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 18 June, 2010 The typing delay is a strange one, I tried it in loads of different browsers and it seems to be a problem specific to Internet Explorer. I'll have a hunt around to see if anyone's found a fix for it. On the page load speed, there are a few more tweaks that I can do, so I'll try those out a bit later today if I get time.
