England v USA

Let's kick it off early.

The most important question - wardrobe. Does anybody know whether England are playing in white or red tonight?

And the weather forecast - I'm confident that it will be dark. And cold.

Bring it on.

Having got the Satellite Smart Card registered...

To stay in with Terry Veneables & Ray Wilkins in the studio but suffer the stuttering signal, or go down Fibbers Irish pub and watch it on their fuzzy slingbox, or battle into one of the massive tents filled with aggressive locals having mental breakdowns having to support America because they hate us.

Hmmm

England I believe as the home team are playing in white. Still not sure if I should watch this at home and make a dent on the 48 Carlsberg exports I got from Sainsburys or savour the atmosphere in an East end boozer somewhere in Bethnal Green.

There is a good size free England flag in the Sun newspaper this morning, which is now hanging from the balcony.

Looking at fixtures so far, it was officially SAF v MEX and URU v FRA, so as Mexico were in away kit and so were France, as it's ENG v USA I would expect England to be in White (same v Algeria, and then away v Slovenia so red for that one).

You can double check if South Korea are in red v Greece's White, and Argentina are in Stripes v Nigeria in green, though there's no clash with home kits there anyway.

Score prediction on this game is too tough - I think USA have overplayed their "underdog" hand a bit too much in the build up to this match, saying "There's no pressure on us so this is our easy game" always comes back to bite you in the butt.

I think England will do a professional job, not pretty but enough. 2-0..

Rooney hat-trick, on his way to tournament's Golden Boot. USA? Not sure they have the World Cup menatlity tbh. In these tournaments it's not the end of the World if you falter at the start but if we beat them (and convincingly) their egos may not cope mentally as they are not used to coming second. Todays game is their final, but for us it's a good opportunity to get a bit more match firness ready for the games at altitude.

4-0 maybe 4-1.

2-1 to USA unfortunately, England will be overconfident after they go ahead early through Rooney, but Donovan and Cherundulo will pull 2 goals back midway through the second half to disappoint the throngs of England fans in the stadium and in the various city centres around the country.

Yours,

Mystic Meg

Splashed out a whole five pounds on a scorecast (mugs bet that never wins ha ha) on 2-0 Rooney to score first.

Cometh the man cometh the hour, we are England the nation that built the modern world, time to step up to plate and ram 1776 down their historyless throats.

Apparently, they wanted to start at 1941 and finish at 1945, so as they could claim they won it!

Very good. :)

I was in the shower when the ITV coverage started. I could hear the national anthems. I'm bound to say that the USA anthem is the more uplifting. Mind you, I could say that about ANY other national anthem. But staving off the risk of turning into St George, I'll balance by saying that any anthem that mentions the phrase ...rockets red glare... has a problem. But then at least it mentions ...the land of the free, and the home of the brave..., even if it is complete twaddle. Ours is basically about an institution many [perhaps most, nowadays..?] of us would rather be rid of.

Oh, and well done Gerrard.
