The kit looks alright.

Are you not in agreement that leaving announcements till 11pm at night just to p!ss of the Echo is slightly childish?

Wake up and smell the coffee a bit.

No, i'm with Cortese et al on this one. It was a polite request not to publish the Staplewood article by the club (even though it was common knowledge by that point), but they went ahead and did it anyway. Very unprofessional, and they deserve their punishment.

Can we be 100% sure that the announcements being left late is purely to annoy The Echo?

Steve Grant is good friends with a few of the staff at the Echo. So Echo going to print at 11pm I would say is spot on.

Season ticket prices were announced at 11:10pm

New kit was announced at 11:10pm

I am not going to ruin this thread with anti-Cortese so will leave it at this... but it really is f*cking childish and not just that, it's f*cking selfish to the people not lucky enough to have an internet connection who rely on their local press to find out all things Saints.

Disagree with you on that.

Here's an example on a previous thread from someone's mock up :

SFC125copy.jpg

Think the sash on the reverse is perfect.

that does look nice actually, doesn't it....only thing is, there is no black edging on the new kit, and i think its THAT that makes the mock-up kit look nice......still we'll never know what the real reason is, so let's just enjoy our new kit for what it is......there is no way that everyone would've liked it, so as long as the majority do then let's support the club and buy this beautiful, commemorative shirt by the thousands....

:)

Have to agree with you Stu. NC has made his point, on more than one occasion now. He really should let it drop and make an affort to get the paper onside.

If the club didn't want the Echo to show the kit they just don't sell them the pictures. They don't need to wait until after they start going to print.

If these were release 5 hours ago the paper couldn't just steal the photos from the website without Cortese's permission.

You have turned it into a conspiracy theory.

Was the name on the back of the shirt a dig at our fishy fiends?

Sorry, don't like it, just not enough red on it for my liking, thankfully it's only for one season and there's always the away kit and training wear. Saints are red and white stripes to me, not something that looks like a rugby top.

One thing I think most will agree on though is that they have messed up with the club crest changes.

Nope, can't agree with that either. As someone [sorry, can't remember who] suggested, when we saw the 125 badge for the first time, it'll probably look better when shown stitched on the shirt... It does.

The vast majority of people have internet now. Saints and Daily Echo are two different companies. They owe The Echo nothing at all. Why should they wait with news just so The Echo can get it into their next paper? That gives The Echo money off of the clubs news.

The Echo will have it up on their site within a few hours anyway.

The way they have behaved recently i think it is pretty safe to say Saints will not lose sleep over not informing The Echo of their plans!

On topic in regards to the shirt, at first glance was not too happy, but i think it will grow on you. Look forward to getting it on saturday!

OK, one more before I go to bed...

Errr... a football club needs a good relationship with it's local paper. The amount of people that read this forum and that read the official OS are in the minority of Saints fans.

The majority will rely on local press/media to keep up to date with what's happening.

3500 people log in to this site each month. Around 7% of those who were at Wembley. A larger, but still minority will view the OS... a local paper is a football clubs moutpiece, and by cutting them off you are sticking 2 finger up at them AND the Southampton supporters who use it as a link to Southampton FC

Can you just keep your *****ing to one big sturomseysaint thread as I'm sure I speak for slot of people that are very bored with seeing it in every thread. I like the kit by the way.

I don't agree with this. Majority of things I read in the Echo are speculation or just rubbish that never comes true, not many 'facts'. If I want to find out about another clubs news, will I search their local newspapers website? No I will go to their club website.

If I remember correctly, the Echo also have an afternoon/evening edition and Im certain pictures of the kit will be in there so hardly long for the so called 'majority' to find out.

Lastly, the Echo doesn't make the club any money so they don't have to consider them at all.

I just saw your location... are you one of them annoying scrotes that constantly bangs on the back boards?

Or the spotty ginger that does that gay dance whilst singing Oh When The Saints?

The Daily Echo's circulation has decreased significantly over the last 10-15 years(basically coinciding with the rise of the internet) and is continuing to fall.

Local papers need clubs FAR more than clubs need local papers when they have so many other media outlets available to them compared to the 60's, 70's, 80's and early to mid 90's.

my missus is back in the UK in Aug so she can pick me up this, think its a great looking kit. Hopefully the away strip is blue & yellow in the same design....will have one of those as well.

Bit annoying though as I brought the River Plate top when I was in Buenos Aires a few months back...should of gone Boca and not have a future clash in my footie top draw!! ;)

Not one nor the other I'm afraid. Shame really as you're such a fan of both.

Is that seriously why all the news comes out at that time?

That is pathetic and childish really.

Oh well, the kit looks nice, I will wait till it is half price at the end of the season and buy one to put in the draw.

NO, F.u.c.K THE ECHO

I'm pretty sure that's Cortese's attitude. He doesn't give a flying **** that many Saints fans like to read up to date info on the club in their local paper. In fact it doesn't appear that Cortese gives a **** about the fans at all.

And The Echo didn't give a flying f*ck about Cortese and the club when they printed the Staplewood article when asked to wait for 48hrs by the club itself. If they want to maintain a good relationship with the club, it'd be best to do as they were told rather than doing what they want.

That's because the news was already out in the public domain, Cortese threw a girly strop which is fair enough but banning them was pathetic. Even Rupert Lowe didn't stoop that low after all the **** the Echo threw at him (much much worse than anything Cortese has). Though he did sometimes release info after their print deadline.

I would hate to have a local press under the control of the club, I think it's in everyone's interests if they are free to publish stories that Cortese might not like.

The news was out in the public domain, but not published (as far as I know). All Cortese wanted the Echo to do was wait a day or two to publish the article, they could put it on ice until he gave the thumbs up and then they could go for it. Instead, they went completely against the wishes of the club and very unprofessionally published the article anyway. I know they're journalists, but they've got to have some morals, surely?

L*we never stooped that low because he deserved the sh1t he got. Cortese, on the other hand, has been instrumental in bring a billionnaire owner to the club, appointing a brilliant manager, giving the club a new sense of pride and wellbeing, and started to structure our youth system to enable us to produce quality players for decades to come. I still don't understand why people are so negative about him - would you all prefer that we went under in the summer and we were all supporting Eastleigh right now? F*cking ridiculous.

I'm all for free press as well, it's what keeps us ticking as a well-informed nation, but if you want a good relationship with a certain person, organisation, company or facility, you do as you're told. That is not what The Echo did, and that is why they've been blacklisted by the club, and rightly so imo.

Love it.

No stupid shoulders or appaling plastic flybe sticker. Also it's nice they haven't got Wotton and James modeling it like last season's away shirt. I know James has left, but f**k me they must be the ugliest players since Delap and Ormerod.

Something different for a season, will be getting one

I wonder what the away kit will be like and what sponsor it will have?

edit - just read the article, the shirt will on sale sat morning at the ground, you dont really queue..instead, you will get a ticket and go to the chapel concourse where they will have old games and the screens and old kits on display where you can wait for your number to be called..

good idea..
