Saint J 77 Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Well as long as the players like it and feel confident playing in it. Maybe it will grow on me. At least its not pink like Everton's new away kit. That reminds me of Jossy's Giants. There was an episode where the girls put their red kit in the wash with the boys' white one, thus making the giants play in a pink kit.
The9 Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 (edited) I liked the Pony tick kit. I hated the flame kit. I am curious about one thing. Did we have an away kit 125 years ago ? I think not. I'm sure they'd have worn something else if we played a team in white with a red sash - I'm guessing the change kit was "not to wear the red sash". By 1902 when Saints lost the FA Cup Final to Sheffield United (and were already wearing stripes like them) we played in plain white shirts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup_Final_1902 Edited 11 June, 2010 by The9 added link for the hell of it.
Daren W Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 You appear to have made a rather obvious faux pas there, Daren Which is?
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 You mean the classically style polo-esque England shirt which is widely regarded as one of the simplest pieces of excellent design of recent years ? I bet you love that frigging disgusting flame kit and the rubbish Pony Tick one, don't you ? No Prefer red n white stripes home and yellow with blue shorts away in the classic 1960/70's style. Better than looking like Morris dancers. Hope the away kit is better as i wanted to buy one for the first time in years without sponsership.
The9 Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 You appear to have made a rather obvious faux pas there, Daren Yeah, come on, I want to see a white front page with diagonal sash backdrop...
stevegrant Posted 11 June, 2010 Author Posted 11 June, 2010 Which is? The background is sooooo last season

Daren W Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 The background is sooooo last season It was the last issue with the red and white stripes before I went with a full picture cover...
Charlie Wayman Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 This may be nothing but why is Lallana not in the picture?? Nor Schneiderlin???? Well you can't please everyone, I hate the bloody thing, effectively we're playing in white! For how many years did we support the "Save our Stripes" campaign? So what was that all about. I suppose we'll end up with a Swiss cross and speak in German... "Ich hasse dieses blutige Hemd!" - Yep! I did get a German 'O' Level with distinction.
The9 Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Wasn't the 2003/4 Euro kit like that because of UEFA rules, which were about to come into play in the PL, but then scrapped? Yes. That's all I've got.
The9 Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 It was the last issue with the red and white stripes before I went with a full picture cover... And WHAT a picture. Well, it was Ormerod, but...
patred44 Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 don't you think it's taking secrecy a bit far by announcing in the middle of the night :p:p:p:p we don't want to get the reputation for being creatures of the night:D
StuRomseySaint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 don't you think it's taking secrecy a bit far by announcing in the middle of the night :p:p:p:p we don't want to get the reputation for being creatures of the night:D It's not secrecy, it is childish one-upmanship against the Echo ( who have done f*ck all wrong apart from release some details about a poxy training ground development a bit to early )
Daren W Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 And WHAT a picture. Well, it was Ormerod, but... Actually mate, it was Chris Marsden...
Thedelldays Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 It's not secrecy, it is childish one-upmanship against the Echo ( who have done f*ck all wrong apart from release some details about a poxy training ground development a bit to early ) I thought I can be bad at times..but stone a goat, you are sounding like an obsessed broken record
Marino Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 It's not secrecy, it is childish one-upmanship against the Echo ( who have done f*ck all wrong apart from release some details about a poxy training ground development a bit to early ) Get a life mate - the Club quite rightly wanted to make the announcement, not via the local rag.
SFC Forever Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Only thing which I am not yet sure of is the socks. Will probs grow on me though.
S-Clarke Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Nor Schneiderlin???? Well you can't please everyone, I hate the bloody thing, effectively we're playing in white! Scudamore Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 OK, one more before I go to bed... Errr... a football club needs a good relationship with it's local paper. The amount of people that read this forum and that read the official OS are in the minority of Saints fans. The majority will rely on local press/media to keep up to date with what's happening. 3500 people log in to this site each month. Around 7% of those who were at Wembley. A larger, but still minority will view the OS... a local paper is a football clubs moutpiece, and by cutting them off you are sticking 2 finger up at them AND the Southampton supporters who use it as a link to Southampton FC I'd suggest that those who rely on the printed copy of the Echo as their sole source of Saints information won't know that they are a whole day behind in their information and almost certainly won't care either.
suspect everyone Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Shouldn't the slogan read... "A kit from the back of the Umbro stockroom, for a team of beauty pageant entrants."
Pancake Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Only thing which I am not yet sure of is the socks. Will probs grow on me though. Try taking them off then.

OMFG People that rely on an installment plan aren't Saints fans. Now people that read the paper rather than go online aren't Saints fans. Our support is seriously f*cked up.
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 OMFG People that rely on an installment plan aren't Saints fans. Now people that read the paper rather than go online aren't Saints fans. Our support is seriously f*cked up. You really are obsessed

Baj Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 3500 people log in to this site each month. Around 7% of those who were at Wembley. Actually Stu, the real figure closer to 10 times that.
aintforever Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 The top looks OK on its own but with white shorts and black socks the kit as a whole doesn't look great. The retro idea is sound but if we wore white shirts, white shorts and black socks 125 years ago it was probably because it's all they could get hold of, not because it looked good. I take it we're gonna have to sing "come on you whites" now?
StuRomseySaint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Actually Stu, the real figure closer to 10 times that. I understant that is the number of 'unique' log-ins Bajio.
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Actually Stu, the real figure closer to 10 times that. 35k ??
.comsaint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 This may be nothing but why is Lallana not in the picture?? lolol. Only took 5 posts before the conspiracy theorists emerged...
Daren W Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Yeah, come on, I want to see a white front page with diagonal sash backdrop... The more I see the new kit, the more I love it... We are still talking about the kit aren't we?
Scudamore Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Stu, how did you manage to misinterpret Scudamore so badly? I'm too am confused as to what the hell he's talking about! I shall elaborate my point though so Stu understands. If a fan hasn't been on this site or the internet over the last few weeks they are highly unlikely to have whipped themselves into a frenzy over petty things like a f::cking football kit. They are also unlikely to be aware that they are a whole day behind in their information of the kit and are unlikely to care as hopefully they have a little more patience than half the plums on here pressing F5 incessantly. I expect an apology from Stuey for misrepresenting my views.
Baj Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 I misread what SRS put, I was comparing visitors, he's talking about people who have logged in and read the main thread, and you need to log in to view this part of the forum.
trousers Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 So, just for clarity, we're no closer to knowing what the delay was? p.s. loud chortle at the Laurel and Hardy pic above :-)

Obviously they can be the same logger, logging in multiple times? any idea how many different loggers or at least different IP addresses you get (could be the same logger but logging in from different locations eg work)?
Baj Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 those will be unique accounts, and there are very few duplicate accounts.
Avenue Saint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 beautiful stunning kit! WELL DONE CORTESE.... Stuart, u have issues boy, go see someone b4 it rots in...
trousers Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Btw, if you hold the cursor over the picture on the OS, the name 'Norman' comes up for all players. Obviously a hint to our next signing? Well spotted Sir.....what's that all about then....? Perhaps the leading goalscorer in the first ever St Mary's YMA team was called Norman? Or something more cryptic perhaps....?
Giordano Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 (edited) I am very very happy with the new kit. Its Classy and a different league to others entirely down to "NO sponsor" emblazoned on it. It will be instantly iconic. It obviously will be a big success and wearable this season but also next season + and wherever saints fans may gather as it transcends "seasonality" that afflicts football tops these days. Buying the new season kit is not a foregone conclusion for many Saints fans, but for this kit i think many will make an exception and buy it regardless as its been so very cleverly marketed. Does anyone know what the highest sales of a new kit ever was? Id suggest that this will exceed that - if not by unit sales certainly by ££ receipts but probably both. The figures would make an interesting read....Was our highest shirt sales "keegan"???......SFC have got a big hit on their hands .................stay tuned for official website updates next week on a "sell-out"..... PS- whoever said they'd wait til the end of season to buy it at half price- i dont think this kit will ever be discounted. If anything if you buy two and keep one mint/pristine in its packet you may actually resale it in future for a lot more. Its an investment opportunity for the canny sports shirt buyer. And no, im not paid to say that by the shop....its just a hunch i have about this kit ...demand WILL exceed supply and if Cortese etc know what they are doing then yes the kit will fly off the shelfs. Expect a specially priced limited edition of this one in due course...................... Edited 11 June, 2010 by Giordano my typically awful spelling...
Gorgiesaint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 With regards to the website updates, do we still have full control? When we were in the PL, we had & ran our own website. When we were relegated, I thought we decided to cut costs & join the FL generic site which is run centrally on behalf of all of the FL clubs. How much input does the club get in timing these releases on the website?

But a mass produced football shirt has got to top em all!
NickG Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Don't let one posters anti-club obession spoil another thread. Can't wait to see us winning in new kit.
alpine_saint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Don't let one posters anti-club obession spoil another thread. Can't wait to see us winning in new kit. What are you on about now ? I like the kit.
SNSUN Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Thumbs up. Simplicity is often the best way to go. As soon as they bring one out that fits the Angel of the North, I'll get one.
NickG Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 What are you on about now ? I like the kit. guilty conscience? Not you this time.
Daren W Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 What are you on about now ? I like the kit. lolol He means Stu or Dune... Freudian but epic...
trousers Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 New article this morning.... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2068749,00.html
dronskisaint Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 The kit looks alright. Are you not in agreement that leaving announcements till 11pm at night just to p!ss of the Echo is slightly childish? Wake up and smell the coffee a bit. Firstly - the shirt looks good Secondly the Echo stole Saints (not NC's) thunder before after being expressly asked not to so they forgo the right to that consideration. Not childish - sensible!
del boy Posted 11 June, 2010 Posted 11 June, 2010 Interesting to read that the kit is for one season only, I suppose that's to maximise shirt revenue. It might depend on reaction / feedback tho?
