According to a source in the City, representatives of David Beckham have been in touch with the administrators of Portsmouth F.C with regards to buying the club. Beckham has previously stated that he'd like to own an English Football team and it's believed that he feels Portsmouth are good value for money. It is not known whether he wishes to play for the club if he buys them

ok, come on - who emailed that in? :D

Mmm, was a little concerned until I saw the source. Need to keep the nerve and be patient with regards new players I think. Difficult when you see the oppposition teams snapping up players you thought might come to us. But AP/NC know best and we'll have a top team to support next season I'm sure.

Charlton Athletic are set to announce their first couple of Summer signings. They will be:

Michael Antonio – Loan

http://football-rumours.co.uk/index.html

If he was out of contract at the end of last season, and Reading have kept him on - why now send him out on loan again. If that was the case then surely Antonio wouldn't have signed a new deal. My bet is he either stays with Reading or gets sold - in which case Charlton don't have any money (unless we buy Bailey of course).

another target going elsewhere..

hmmmm, oh well

This is exceptionally galling, if true. I mean, its not like they have out-bid us.

I could have sworn that I got a right hammering on here this week about our lack of urgency and proactivity on the transfer market, and that my argument about being gazumped was silly...

I was with a representative from Reading on Friday last week. It sounds to me like Pardew hasn't taken the option to sign him

Now, some of the posters on here will tell you that it must be because AP has identified someone better

If true, of course..

That is quite surprising as AP, when interviewed on Solent towards the end of the last season, said that the clubs were talking and he hoped something could be done - maybe someone better has become available?

I think if Antonio goes elsewhere it means we definitely have someone else lined up.

depends..Reading might have asked a silly amount for a transfer fee...

or Reading might use him this season and dont want to sell....

thats if the original link to him going to Charlton is a load of old pony of course..

wouldn't say must be, but either:

can't afford him

has someone else in mind

thinks width is covered with Puncheon and Lallana (possibly Oxlade Chamberlain/Mills/Holmes/Dicksom)

why do you think?

Well are you saying thats not possible? I heard that from a players mouth so he thought it possible.

Are you saying you believe Pardew said "Nah we won't sign him. I'm sure something else will turn up".

I think looking back at how last season panned out, it would be a mistake to not replace Papa and Antonio.

Basically, they added a major shake-up to the team when they were brought in or brought on. They added an element of unpredictability that has been missing from Saints teams since MLT retired.

I dont expect either will sign for us next season. Papa is a free spirit and will go on to a bigger (in his eyes) club. Reading will ask too much for Antonio and Pardew will bring in someone cheaper and better.

I would like us to sign both but as Pardew did Ok last year in the transfer market I trust his judgement.
