Food and Drink

Just reading through 'The Attendence and club finances' thread, it occured to me at the Barnsley game when I went to get a drink (Chapel end) they were trying to 'sell' some sort of Italian food on one of the kiosks.

Why are we not trying to attract people to the stadium pre match, with local food and drink and create more of a pub atmosphere, rather than the more sterile feeling that you associate with modern stadia.

This is just something that crossed my mind while wishing away the time against the might of Barnsley last Saturday.........I'm now ready for you to poo poo my idea with basic economics ;)

I can see it now in all the concourses; the tables and chairs laid out with their gingham table cloths, the subdued candlight flickering romantic atmosphere, the bare concrete walls covered with posters of Napoli and Venezia, the fishing nets and straw covered old Chianti bottles, the sound system belting out Pavarotti singing O Sole Mio.....

i don't think the food is the problem.

Anyone going to football due to the food isn't really a fan.......

Missing the point matey. You don't fly easyJet or Ryanair for the food, travel insurance or car hire but if you listen to O'Leary or Andy Harrison talk and they'll tellyou a lot about the importance of 'ancillary' revenue in making an ostensibly money-losing business profitable.

If we could get the punters to have their pre-match lunch and drinks inside the stadium (ie buy them from Saints rather than the local pub or Pizza Express) it's a chunk less we owe the bank/mortgage/lawnmower repair man....

Next week they are trying out polish food.

That should bring them in

I've warmed to the Poles that attend Saints matches.

I sat next to a Polish guy at the Blackpool match

He was proudly showing off his tattoos - Lech Poznan on one arm & Saints on the other

Very good idea. I could take her indoors(never up for football) Leave her there

in that romantic setting and collect her after the game. This would go some way to negating the comment that I never take her out. If I tip the waiter that may well negate the statement that she is never ever shown any romance. To be honest I might have to give him a fair bit of wonga as he would then understand that The Saints is my real love affair.

in principle its great idea, reading the above replies I can see why clubs have not tried it!!!

I muted aimilar idea the other week.Sayibg that the Chapel should be made into just a family centre. The concourse should be used to provide more entertainment for the kids and get the spend up...problem is they wouldnt want to go out and watch the footie. But areas doing amusements and selling kids related stuff could be a winner.

LOL - Never work

What happens when we start doing well again?

Tell all the kids to **** off, or leave 2000 empty seats in the chapel, even though they could have filled them with adults?

That is something that will take a season to worry about. There are about 10k other seats to be tqken before that is an issue. While we have limited resources and can get kids along wioth some adults it more in the pot.We should worry about the Chapel filling up later not now.

To be honest, I was expecting a lot more sarcastic replies than I actually recieved. Atleast you and nickh understood what I was getting at, SFC should really make more of an effort to attract revenue to St Marys on match days.

Hell, I'm as negative as they come about the club and team in general, but I'd rather spend my money at St Marys to support the club I love rather than in a pub that I use that I couldn't care less about.

The idea that fans spend money in ground instead of pubs or fast food outlets is great as is idea of selling kids sweets or whatever other stuff

Do we still do discount on food & drink before set time to reward early birds

If club manage the concourses better more will get spent ie how many times is the bar queue long & slow while food queue dose't exisist

Also whats wrong with club lottery just fix it so that only real SAINTS fans win it

Was talking to a couple of Germans last summer who supported some small East German team... anyway, they said that their club promotes "happy hour" and the ground is full 2 hours before kick-off.

If the club marketed a similar thing as a proper beery-laddish-cheapo-pre-match-booze-fest (stick some birds in bikinis on the telly, get some slags to serve the drinks etc..) I think it could be quite successful. Unfortunately, in this PC gone mad, Guardian hugging, tree wearing world we live in it's probably not going to happen.

Things are going downhill. The Prince of Wales no longer has the tall blonde barmaid with the large mammary glands serving on Saturday lunchtimes

You are f'ing joking?! She was the main incentive to go! 90 miles to stare at those wonderful breasts and many's the time when I have wished I had stayed in the pub letching rather than walking down to SMS.

This is bloody shocking news :-(
