TijuanaTim Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 FFS How many teams have beaten Spain in the last four years?
Thedelldays Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 I bet they dont get past the 2nd round.. they will probably finish 2nd in our group and get done by the germans
SuperMikey Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 USA are very underrated, I reckon they'll get to the Semis tbh.
Smirking_Saint Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 They will be the surprise package IMO. A few years ago i would say they would be my dark horses to make the quarters but now they are my dark horses to make the Semi's
bpsaint Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 They were very impressive in the Confederations Cup last year,I honestly think our game against them will be a lot tougher than people think.
Baj Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 You can take the **** out the commentators as much as you want, but at least they can pronounce the spanish names properly
SuperMikey Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 They were very impressive in the Confederations Cup last year,I honestly think our game against them will be a lot tougher than people think. Especially as England have played pretty unconvincingly in their warm-up games against lesser sides, whereas the USA have been really impressive. Not many teams can boast that they've beaten Spain over the last couple of years. I think there will almost certainly be a shock win for USA, 2-0 by HT, 3-1 at FT.
dubai_phil Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Solid team IF the coach can get them organised they will have the chance to go as far as England. But hopefully not in the first game
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 June, 2010 Posted 4 June, 2010 Would not be at all surprised if they beat us.
TijuanaTim Posted 5 June, 2010 Author Posted 5 June, 2010 The US will miss the handful that is Charlie Davis and if Altidore is out it may have an impact. However (don't kill me for this) Landon Donovan is pure class, maybe even World class. Him and Edson Buddle are a genuine 'dynamic duo' with a great understanding. If England are a little slow in central defence they could get exploited???
scott_saints Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 You are a good "team", but lets face it, our players are much better than yours.
ChrisPY Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 England 3 USA 1 Wigan beat Chelsea. Doesn't make them any good. We will win.
jjsaint Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 USA could beat England but it is not likely. There is a pretty clear gap in ability, with the excpetion of Donovan, Howard & possibly Dempsey. Spain wasn't exactly a fluke (the US have caused a handful of upsets in recent memory) but nor is it the normal state of affairs. Spain were disorganised, US were able to capitalise. I am predicting 3-0 to England, but for USA to still make the second round.
saintkiptanui Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Not worried at all, they are a pile of dogsh*t, with Fabio in charge no way are we gonna slip up against them.
Leicestersaint Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Not worried at all, they are a pile of dogsh*t, with Fabio in charge no way are we gonna slip up against them. Famous last words! I do not think the England players are nearly as good as they think they are. We will regret leaving Walcott at home.
RedArmy Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 if Altidore is out it may have an impact He's terrible.
Dog Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 If England lose to the septics, I will eat my own poo poo.
OldNick Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 sad that our national team is not head and shoulders above a country that makes 'soccer' its 4th most popular game at best. Pretty pathetic really.
hutch Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Their friendly v Australia in Johannesburg is on here live at the moment. They look pretty average, although they've just gone 2-1 up after half an hour. Australia are the more organised side, but not finishing well. The Aussies have much more posession. USA are weak when defending in their own half, with no real midfield, but are effective on the break. Buddle's got both their goals. Beckham's at the game. Moore & Dempsey just got booked for a bit of handbags.
Thedelldays Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 sad that our national team is not head and shoulders above a country that makes 'soccer' its 4th most popular game at best. Pretty pathetic really. we will beat then nick..may not be pretty, but a win in the first game to get us going will be a good result Like I said, they will probably finish 2nd in our group and get done by the germans
hutch Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Just finished. USA 3-1 Australia 3rd goal in Fergie time. Based on those performances, not much to worry about there. Both defences pretty poor. Australia could have had 5 or 6 - poor finishing. The only worry is that USA are reasonably sharp on the break.
Rut Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Based on those performances, not much to worry about there. Both defences pretty poor. Australia could have had 5 or 6 - poor finishing. The only worry is that USA are reasonably sharp on the break. 'Based on those performances' - LOL. If you think that either of those teams will be playing like that come the real thing then think again. Christ - the barney they had was cos someone dared to put a tackle in. Watch a Mexico v USA qualifying game. USA have to fight for their lives in that one. It's hostile with tackles flying in all over the place. USA can look after themselves when they have to. They don't have much choice down there! Think Scotland v England in Glasgow with no away fans. USA will def give England a good game on Saturday. Anyone who thinks otherwise is going to be a bit surprised. That said the bookies have it as: England 1/2 Draw 10/3 USA 13/2 so what do I know? Those odds seem to indicate and easy win for England...
saintkiptanui Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 sad that our national team is not head and shoulders above a country that makes 'soccer' its 4th most popular game at best. Pretty pathetic really.Pretty f*ckin big country with some pretty big resources.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Pretty f*ckin big country with some pretty big resources. Exactly, they will win the World Cup within the next 20 years.
Thedelldays Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Exactly, they will win the World Cup within the next 20 years. so, they will win the world cup within the next 5 competitions..? dont think so..
saintkiptanui Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Exactly, they will win the World Cup within the next 20 years.Nah.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 so, they will win the world cup within the next 5 competitions..? dont think so.. Think how far they have come since 1994. The amount of cash that has been thrown at football in that country is staggering. Over the next few years/WCs we will see more and more players that have come through their 'system' who will be very very good.

Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 how far have they come..? Why don't you do some bloody research of your own for once? I simply can't be arsed. http://www.ussoccer.com/ would be a good place to start.
Andy_Porter Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 Exactly, they will win the World Cup within the next 20 years. Not a chance. They've got some decent players - Bradley, Donovan and Howard would get into most teams but they aren't going to get anywhere near a world cup win anytime soon.
TopGun Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 OMG - a US peril threat from Tijuana Tim... I'm gonna buy Tim an Italian passport so he can tell us about Italian football.
TijuanaTim Posted 5 June, 2010 Author Posted 5 June, 2010 (edited) If England lose to the septics, I will eat my own poo poo. So Dog says "If England lose to the septics, I will eat my own poo poo." (just cut and pasted it, 'cause we do not want any editing do we) I think England should be favourites, however do not play as a team (yet). The US do play as a team and have a common goal. Think a 1-1 is the best the US can hope for...but two things 1. As I said originally 'ignore them at your peril' and if they do win we are either gonna see Dog being a 'poo poo eating son-of-a-gun', or being outed as a liar? Oh and (not that I could give a 'rat's') 'septic' could be translated as a racist remark and we all know how hot on bigotry and racism the admin is. How did England do last time .v. Australia? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip3W9JzbEdE Edited 5 June, 2010 by TijuanaTim
BlakeySFC Posted 5 June, 2010 Posted 5 June, 2010 It made me lol all over the shop when i saw the US football team being sent off to S.Africa by the frikkin President. America's ridiculous, you wouldn't see the England football team be sent off by the Queen, just shows how ridiculously stupid and over the top America is.

I can understand you saying that, however it's one of those 'you have to be here' things...you'd get it if you lived here mate. Do you think the England squad would be motivated if the Queen sent them off? Is she too important to wish them well, with better things to do??
BlakeySFC Posted 6 June, 2010 Posted 6 June, 2010 I can understand you saying that, however it's one of those 'you have to be here' things...you'd get it if you lived here mate. Do you think the England squad would be motivated if the Queen sent them off? Is she too important to wish them well, with better things to do?? Yeh it probably would be quite classy for the Queen to see the team off, but she's too busy doing other things and probably considers football a "working mans sport" in which she doesn't which to associate her higher class self with unfortunately. But it won't ever happen in this country let's face it, we're lucky to get an acknowledgement that football even exists by Prime Ministers these days let alone the Queen. So many things i see in documentaries etc. about America and i just think is that really needed? I know they are a patriotic bunch and don't take kindly to "banter" (i learnt that the hard way in New York) and they are a very new country so it is understandable to be that patriotic as i'm sure we were the same just 100 years ago with the British Empire and all. I just don't like all the "hell yeh USA USA" mentality, it annoys me and as i associate pretty much 99% of Americans as being like this i tend to consider them a very fake group of people with a country built on commercialism, patriotism and capitalist ideas of money over everything else, i'm sure some Americans don't know any other country exists apart from them and Canada.

Again, thank you - great explanation of your viewpoint. There is a chasm of difference between the different parts or States, personally I have to say that I have found Americans to be some of nicest, most courteous and generous people...maybe I've gone a bit native tho' (if that is a bad thing??)
Saint in Paradise Posted 6 June, 2010 Posted 6 June, 2010 BlakeySFC they know ALL about Mexico believe me and I don't mean the football team They have major problems caused by illegals but don't have the guts to really act using their existing laws.
Dog Posted 6 June, 2010 Posted 6 June, 2010 FAO: Septic Tim. I will eat my poo poo, I am not a liar. How about a bet, you eat your poo poo if the septics lose, I'll even give you the draw.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 6 June, 2010 Posted 6 June, 2010 I rate a lot of America's players, Bradley, Donavan, Dempsey, Howard and even Altidore (despite him being a bit of a flop in the Prem, but then again he was playing for Hull). The problem they have is that there is such a gulf in class between the best and worst players in their squad. They've come in leaps and bounds over the last 10-15 years and I think it'll continue, with the continued amount of money going into the game there I think they could be a genuine threat within the 20 years someone stated earlier. This year though, like someone said earlier, out in the first knockout round methinks.
saints-cris Posted 6 June, 2010 Posted 6 June, 2010 For those people thinking that England have a chance in this thing, there is no way we should be worrying about USA.

skintsaint Posted 6 June, 2010 Posted 6 June, 2010 watched the game v australia last night...both teams were utterly poor. USA will do well to get out of the group on that display.
Hamilton Saint Posted 7 June, 2010 Posted 7 June, 2010 Do you think the England squad would be motivated if the Queen sent them off? Is she too important to wish them well, with better things to do??

Why not 100%? What makes you think there is a specific 1% out here who are infact 'ok'? Are you sure that they exist? Did the documentary say that?
