Leicestersaint Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 272 for 6 - quite a good recovery with a big stand between Mckenzie and Cork.

chrisobee Posted 4 June, 2010 Share Posted 4 June, 2010 Unfortunately McKenzie out for 83 just before the close but still a good recovery from 190-6 at tea and Cork proving he can still perform with bat as well as ball. 298/7 at close.

Weston Saint Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 Great days cricket. Before the start of play today we agreed 350 would be a massive score. It was not to be. All of Hampshire bowlers were excellent today. Essex 209 came in 92 overs. Might look like slow scoring but interesting all day with the bowlers on top. corsacar saint Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 Cannot agree with you for once Ron. I stayed till tea-time,totally attritional cricket, especially with the short boundary on one side. The bowling was good ,especially DC,but after the Yorkshire debacle, this sort of game is not doing County Cricket any favours.[i am a fan of the County Championship as well]
Give it to Ron Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 Great days cricket. Before the start of play today we agreed 350 would be a massive score. It was not to be. All of Hampshire bowlers were excellent today. Essex 209 came in 92 overs. Might look like slow scoring but interesting all day with the bowlers on top. It could of been so much better had we taken the 3 catches we missed. Pothas missed one I would expect him to take and the slip catch should of been held. The Rosebowl is undergowing a massive facelift and IMO is losing its way at the moment. Too much building work and made me feel uncomfortable sat in a building site. Shame. Bowlers did a good job and didn't have much luck beating the batsmen regularly.
Leicestersaint Posted 6 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 6 June, 2010 Essex 284 all out. We're now 20 without loss.
wadesmith Posted 6 June, 2010 Share Posted 6 June, 2010 Looking interesing. Try & bat another 10-15 overs tomorrow, declare, that gives them the rest of the day to get 300 on a four day wicket. Could go either way.
RonManager Posted 6 June, 2010 Share Posted 6 June, 2010 Hants finish on 235-6. Lead of 251.
Weston Saint Posted 6 June, 2010 Share Posted 6 June, 2010 Another absorbing days cricket. Let's hope the weather does not ruin what should be a tense finish tomorrow.
corsacar saint Posted 6 June, 2010 Share Posted 6 June, 2010 Despite the fact, yesterday was attritional cricket, tomorrow could be a fantastic days cricket. This is provided that, the weather is ok,and we do not lose our last 4 wickets in one over at the start of play. From the way the previous 3 days have gone, one would assume a score of 275+ in about 5 hours would be quite a difficult ask. We certainly owe Essex, for our defeat[shameful last hour capitulation],at Chelmsford in our opening CCC fixture.
chrisobee Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 Weather here in Watford is Ok though a bit cloudy. Could indeed be an interesting day, fortunate that Pothas and Cork have put on 46 so far otherwise we could be in trouble though a decent run rate at 3.4 per over. Essex managed 2.43 and all our bowlers conceded less than 3 an over and took at least one wicket which always helps to build pressure. I reckon we'll aim for 300 and see if Essex go for it, they have some attacking players so I'd imagine they would ?
bungle Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 Closing in on lead of 300 and no more wickets lost. Is 300 enough? Probably. Would want to put them in before lunch for at least 45 minutes I think.
chrisobee Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 I would have thought 300 was plenty but given Pothas and Cork have put on 90 now I'm not so sure. 295 the lead at present, 320 lead and declare ?
bungle Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 Pothas gone. Lead of 302. Swing the bat for 2 overs and see what happens?

bungle Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 Raining in Bath - hope they have factored in rain. They should get one of those expensive radar things the F1 teams have - not that they ever work properly! Lead of almost 330 - time to declare! Leicestersaint Posted 7 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 7 June, 2010 Thank goodness we have just declared - leaving them to get about 330. If they do that they deserve to win - but we are in with a fighting chance here, weather permitting.

If they do that they deserve to win - but we are in with a fighting chance here, weather permitting. 328 off 78 overs means Essex would almost have to double their 1st innings run rate so they would indeed deserve to win. They have got players like Napier and ten Doeschate so I guess it depends on how ambitous they want to be.

corsacar saint Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 If Pothas had put Briggs on earlier ,who knows?[They may have got out attacking] NP is a terrific player, but as I have said before on here, not the best captain.
chrisobee Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 Can't really sit here and judge who should or should not bowl. Kaneria took 1/100 in our 2nd innings and he is a quality spinner which suggests there was more in the pitch for the seamers. Essex would not have attacked from 16/4 anyway. Weston Saint Posted 7 June, 2010 Share Posted 7 June, 2010 This was a seam bowler wicket with occasional introduction of Briggs spin. Pothas got that right in my opinion. Weather won and I can tell you our players are very down about it. One bit of news. England have released Pietersen to play T20 and he has confirmed to Hampshire he is available for Sunday's match at the Rose Bowl against Surrey.
